But today is the 24th anniversary of the time we successfully repelled an alien invasion. I saw a documentary on it the other day (on HBO). Fucking crazy man.

I could have been at a barbecue. I could have been at a barbecue, indeed.

This has nothing to do with your thread, but the title reminds me of Norm's line at about the 50 second mark

The "let's infect the alien software with a virus" was so cute I had to check if Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay.

You coulda thrown in a few lines indicating that the Area 51 scientists had been breaking down their machine language for decades, etc, and then Goldblum provides the missing link, which he could transmit using a machine they created over decades to actually work with/connect to the alien network, versus, say, a Macbook.

Yeah, and with that nugget, ALL of the plot holes would be closed.

yeah, like in the words of my generation.... up yours!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. the original screenplay of that sceen was actually supposed to be Randy Quaid's character actually being rejected as a F18 pilot and flying his biplane into the ship the same way....

Good thing they changed it to something more realistic...

If I recall my history correctly, tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of the day the aliens arrived on Earth.

25 years later and we've yet to build a wall to keep out those alien invaders.  We just never learn.  We lack the willpower, that's what it is.

Bump.

Rest in peace to the fallen, on that tragic, fateful day.

We're going to live on, we're going to survive, indeed.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the 4th of July.

Who said it best, Randy Quaid as Russell in Independence Day in 1996, or Alex Jones in 2022?

Shame that the Disney deal put an end to a chance at an ID3 and ID4.  That and the lack of interest on the part of the producer.  And the box office sales of the second.

The crazy thing is Emmerich and Devlin spawned a helluva franchise with Stargate. Shame they couldn’t with ID.

The sequel was horrific.

your commitment to this bit is admirable good sir

A time when movie marketing was king. The Super Bowl ad where they blew up the White House and Capitol was the perfect teaser.

29 years ago today, they lit us up. I'm surprised it's not talked about more, considering the damage. Thankfully, we fought back only a day later.

Take a drunk who hasn't flown a jet for 25 years, pour coffee in him and give a brief lesson in flying an advanced F18 fighter.

Not to mention hijacking an alien vehicle, fly it to the mothership and then, upload a computer virus.

And I love it.
