Glad you admit tonight was a moral victory for A&M, please explain to the bumbling idiot @Rickylovesweed who apparently gets high on his own stuff and starts tagging me several times a day about the impending demise of A&M and their recruiting class.

What you guys are essentially telling me is to bury my head in the sand and ignore true freshmen Shemar Turner, Walter Nolen, Evan Stewart, Chris Marshall, Kam Dewberry going toe-to-toe with Bama all night b/c aggies have been shit forever and that's how it will always be. Yeah, I'm not getting on that train. They've never had this much talent, they have more coming, and will be on a bigger stage sooner than later.

So aggys best win was Arkansas who lost to Liberty today?

Arkansas and Miami suck. This was another SEC type schedule where aggy was gifted 6 or 7 wins but they might not even get there this year.

tl:dr - there's a lot of fucking talent here and a really solid defensive staff. floor is really high. qb, left side of ol play along with jimbo's playcalling will be difference between 9 wins and a playoff run. my heart says 10 wins, my head says 9, so fuck it, we go 10-2, lose to arkansas and bama and everyone is relatively happy. fin.

for those that deal in specificity:

qb: haynes king has played like 5 quarters of college football. anyone saying he's great or sucks has no idea, and we'll see what happens this fall. supposedly there's a bit more rpo options and easier throws, but we've heard this from jimbo before. i think he can be competent, but a. can he stay healthy, b. what does competent get you? max johnson is a jag, although a far better backup situation than last year. staff is really excited about weigman, we'll see how much run he gets early, which could be interesting.

rb: achane is awesome. smooth, really good at avoiding big hits, great hands, he's going to have a monster year. lj johnson and daniels are ok, le'veon moss is the prize here - there's a reason bama was all over him. there's also a reason they backed off as he needs to get his head on straight. he's either going to turn into the backup at some point this year and breakout, or will be off the team by november never to be heard from again. coin flip.

wr: hope is a dangerous thing, but between having an actual position coach and a large influx of talent, there's a chance we can be close to league average here, which would be incredible. evan stewart is a fucking witch, he works his ass off and makes the room better. anias smith is overrated but will be competent in the slot, and chase lane is a nice guy that works hard at the z. guessing noah thomas and chris marshall get more snaps as the year goes on, they're just so much more talented than anyone else on the roster.

te: probably the largest delta between what the start of the year looks like and what could be happening in november. max wright and blake smith have been in the system a few years and know where to be, jake johnson and donovan green haven't, but they're just superior athletes. somehow, neither are on the level of theo ohrstrom who has a size / speed combo that really doesn't make sense, however i just have a hard time thinking he's going from essentially 8th grade football in sweden to competing this year. will be interesting to see how those guys are worked in.

ol: the degree to which you believe in steve addazio is probably related to the ceiling you think this team has. the guy can coach a run game and seems locked in with jimbo in a way josh henson never was, however we'll see what happens. right side of the line will be fine. fatheree is a first round guy, layden robinson needs some work as a pass protector but great run blocker. other 3 spots will be interesting. sounds like wykoff is going to start, bryce foster doesn't really love football and that pisses jimbo off. i would assume he'll be back starting by conference play, but it's not crazy that he's not on the team by that point either. wykoff isn't a huge dropoff here. i have doubts about zuhn's strength at left tackle, however he's miles better than jamir johnson (i still don't understand why he started all last year), and either aki or moko should be passable at guard. decent depth at guard, not a lot of options at tackle. pj williams and kam dewberry are going to be players.

defense: we're going to be more multiple, we're going to play more single high, we're going to press more, we're going to force more turnovers, and we're going to give up more big plays. elko loved to sit back and slowly dial in, durkin is going to bring the fight much earlier, both have their good and bad. still can't believe we didn't take a transfer linebacker.

dl: i can see 12 guys in this room spending time in an nfl camp. just an absurd collection of athletes that needs to translate to production on the field quickly. at dt mckinley jackson is healthy, in shape and in a contract year. raikes is really solid, but shemar turner is just too good to keep off the field. walter nolan and gabe dindy were both dinged up most of camp, they'll arrive by conference play. marcus burris and albert regis would have been our starters at dt for most of the past 20 years and been fine. tunmise adeleye and fadil diggs will start at de, but anthony lucas, overton and malick sylla really started to look good at end of camp. still not sure if there's a guy that can really bend the edge which will be the difference in extremely solid and elite. i have faith in terry price and elijah robinson to keep this group motivated, but that's a lot of guys to keep happy.

lb: easily weakest position on the team. helped by playing behind what should be a very good dl, but we're at least 1.5 guys short. edgerin cooper will make a bunch of highlights, but still runs himself out of plays, and can't weigh more than 215. andre white looks incredible in pads, and just doesn't process fast enough. there's a bunch of other guys, none are playmakers. the freshmen might be in time, but they're at least a year away. we'll only play 2 most of the time, but any injuries here and we're fucked.

cb: this is my biggest question mark - lot of injuries during camp and i don't think anyone knows what we have. chappell remains the best cover guy, but i'm worried about jaylon jones continuing to start on the other side. myles jones can't stay healthy. denver harris and smoke bouie are going to be good, but how soon? the kid out of georgia is a stud, but he may not see the field this year. gotta stay healthy and play up to talent.

s: went from a weakness to strength real quick the last few classes. durkin has demani richardson way more involved in the box, which is where he should be, and both jardin gilbert and jacoby matthews will be huge improvements over leon. the coaches think matthews is an all american at some point. antonio johnson might be an all american already and bryce anderson can play pretty much every safety postion. this will be a great group, and will need to be if the cb's don't hold up as anticipated.

st: punter and kicker are very good. how much do you risk achane returning kicks? no idea.

gonna be a fun year. copy and paste when we go 6-6.

Well you were right about one thing.

Well they're not getting to 7 wins.

The fact that A&M’s current signees haven’t decommitted is incriminating. If they weren’t getting paid upfront , they’d already be gone.

Saw a title on 247 that texas was still a possibility for hicks... any truth to that?

Don’t fret, they’ll pull out at the 7th, 8th, or 9th game next year!!!!

Btw there’s 2 teams at 1-5 and the bottom of the sec west, and they play each other next week.

one just fired its coach, the other owes theirs 85 million more.

ive talked myself into believing that auburn at home can get it done.

Auburn's D is much better than Florida.

Auburn just needs to run the ball about 50 times with the RB and QB because their passing game sucks.

Sounds like Hill was at the aggy game today and Akana took his OV to them.

Desperation pays well. They are just looking to be one and done like the 2022 class.

We were at some friends' house to watch the game last night.  Husband is an aggy.  Discussion came around to aggy season and Jimbo.  Guy was talking about how Jimbo better turn it around next season or some big oil and gas guys would pony up some cash to get rid of him.

Asked him how sure he was about that, since the $80M to buy him out next year would be about 4x what the largest buyout in NCAA coaching history is.

Jimbo hasn’t been following the memo for his TPS reports

I know it’s been discussed but they could easily be 1-8 right now. Miami dominated them and Arkansas had the stupid goal line play. In another world I’d love to see how they would be acting with only 1 win this season.

Imagine Jimbo's excuse of "we just dont have the talent" when it's all his talent.

aggy will attempt to litigate their way out of it. Tennessee gave them a road map. Jimbo is going to get paid, but he’ll never see his full buyout.

Say what you will about the performance - and the second half was pretty rough after such a promising first half (much like the entire team) - but the dude is an absolute warrior. In no way was 13 going to play this week (foot injury, shoulder and a damaged hand) but when Weigman was knocked out with a pretty bad bout of the flu, King stepped up and, to paraphrase, said "If you need me to go, I can go."

Critique the bottom line and the execution all you want, it's football after all. Just keep in mind that the dude is doing exactly what I've seen so many say they wish they saw from the entire team and program in light of so many players missing so much action of late.

And as for Conner, hell yes the true freshman wanted to play. Probably the toughest week of his young career and that's putting it mildly.

Lots of talk/speculation about being held out, portal and the like but I think we've reached a point in this lost season that just about anything is believable and there's no doubt that Jimbo needs to be on top of and two steps ahead of any and all possibilities - with keeping Conner being Priority 1 and finding an exciting and proven OC 1A - but anything you read having to do with Weigman or his camp not wanting him to play Saturday in order to preserve some kind of redshirt is inaccurate. He and at least one roommate missed Saturday's game (along with a few others) because they were unable to practice all week or play against UF due to being laid up ill. Outside of the 'if anything negative can happen with this team, it will' mode we've clearly entered into this year, I'm fully expecting to see him back on the field making his first SEC road start at Auburn on Saturday.

I think Conner realizes he's an incredible part of the immediate future in Aggieland but I also think it's common sense in 2022 to understand that there are outside influences that you'll have to fight off to keep gifted young players like him and several who look like future stars in the freshman class. It's tougher to fight that battle for any program that's losing or has lost momentum. I'm just spitting facts here.

And I also think Weigman stays and is the guy who leads the Aggies out of this along with a new OC. It's just not going to happen to the point that everyone breathes a big sigh of relief for another few weeks, unfortunately.

So juicy.

The Aggies have a cultural and instinctual tendency to anoint new coaches and quarterbacks as the saviors of Aggie football.

That tendency is only second to their tendency to abandon them immediately upon the first sign of adversity.

Well, they have that highly Harvardesque legal genius clause about Jimbo understanding what a big deal this is to the Aggies.

I'm not kidding. Somebody here posted the screenshot. I just can't find it.

Outside of Liucci making clear that Weigman might be done, which is legitimate news, he’s also not even trying to spin anything else right now. When the Baghdad Bob of College Station stops spinning, the whole program is on fire.

We knew that, but it’s pretty hard to believe. He never stops spinning until he’s told of the new hire and then he starts spinning in that direction. I almost sense we’re dealing with … resignation from that asshat right now. Wow.

It’s one thing to use the “flu” as an excuse for one game, but now they’re traveling. They’re going to have a much more difficult time lying about what’s going on this week.

There was a thread on TexAgs yesterday that was taken down quickly saying he's portaling to Georgia.

He’s played in 2 games right?  So even if he plans on portalling he could play in 2 more, auburn and umass, and then jump in the portal before having to face lsu. If they even care about the extra year of eligibility.

Got knocked out hard by the “flu”

I laughed.

Yeah, when you run that post through the Looch propaganda filter, that’s about as negative as it gets. Just unpromptedly saying he thinks Weigman will stay at A&M.

King has turf toe, a bad throwing shoulder, and some sort of hand issue.

weigman has a fever.

we’d better go with king.

As CTJ pointed out out, this week it’ll get interesting. The flu excuse/home game thing won’t fly when announce the travel squad.

I think any healthy freshman contributors that aren’t on the travel squad are more than likely sitting out and will portal.

Curious what the QB situation is next year. If weigman leaves. Max johnson stays. King leaves.

Weigman stays both Johnson and king leave. ( and the yet to have a QB committed this year lol )

But would max Johnson leave since he already transferred, wouldn’t he have to sit out a year? So maybe he ends up staying.

prediction: practice injury on friday *JUST BEFORE* they get on the bus for the charter from IAH, announced based on where they charter to.....

they can control eyes and cameras boarding at IAH but not when they land on friday...

option 1: fly in to AUO, 5400' which is tight for the smallest 737s; the a318 can do it; but an aggy charter is likely unable to land at AUO

option 2: next closest field is CSG, Columbus GA , 40 miles east, with a 7000' strip, but no jetways, so the precise makeup of the traveling squad would be revealed deplaning there

option 3: MGM, Montgomery AL, 63 miles west, 4 jetways; go here and they could hide the makeup of the traveling squad all the way to warmups for 630 kick
