I must have missed where he admitted that previously because that seems like a big admission on his end. (Though we all know he would have been fired without that contract). For or better or worse, and that would be worse in this instance, the contract served its intended purpose; they cant afford to fire him, and Jimbo would be an idiot to walk. Eventually when they get to a place where the termination isn't as cost prohibitive, they still have to shell that out plus the rest of the coaching staff and good luck funding NIL/Transfer Portal when you have to cut out checks for tens of millions on the staff. From an aggie perspective - I'm sure they bought into wholesale offensive changes, a shiny new staff, a dozen plus transfers incoming etc. They got none of those things. I'd grade that a D, and thats only because they were able to fund their bigger dogs on campus sticking around for another semester. Yeah that’s what I was saying with B+ on the lulz statement. That’s a D- from the aggy perspective.
January 20, 20232 yr Liucci walked that back when he clarified he meant, that typically (based on history) aggy would react to a bad season by firing everyone. The contract made that impossible this time, which he sees as a good thing.

I mean maaaaybe elevating Craig but still. yes, there was: honestly, Craig is the funniest option, followed by Tom Herman (that wouldn't last 1 season and would end up with Herman sucker punching Jimbo) followed by Petrino taking the job then leaving them next year for some low level P5 program OR the team not hiring his son and getting pissed and phoning it in for the length of the contract until he gets fired Edited January 20, 20232 yr by NoName

January 21, 20232 yr So will the annual maroon and white game be cancelled due to lack of linebackers?
January 21, 20232 yr They lost 24 guys to the portal but they were all depth pieces and “they knew this was coming” about all of them. What's funny is that for the last 6 months they've been saying that they're intentionally taking a small recruiting class due to lack of space. At least that's been the excuse. Now all of a sudden they knew there would be 25 scholarships would transfer out? They have 10 or so open slots right now. So either they intentionally took a small class or they knew about the transfers. Can't have both excuses.

Apparently Elko is still heavily involved with defensive playcalling and Smith clashed with him over it. So he just hired a yes man he already knew and had worked with. You'd probably hope for a lot more recruiting out of that role than Santucci's shown but... it's Duke Football, who cares.
