Email just came out:

Spoiler

Texas Athletics is currently preparing for the 2020 Texas Football season to begin on Sept. 5 against USF. We are so excited for a homecoming at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium and can’t wait to see y’all! I want you to know that as we are working toward hosting football games this season, our number one priority remains the health and safety of our student-athletes, staff and fans.

As we continue to work closely with the Governor’s office and follow state guidelines for social distancing, we anticipate seating at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium to be at a reduced capacity. As of today, capacity is limited to 50 percent. This has several important effects that I would like to share:

  1. At 50 percent capacity, we anticipate being able to offer all season ticket holders an opportunity for season tickets. Each season ticket holder will be allocated season tickets up to their respective Texas-OU priority limit for each home competition.
  2. There will be a reseating process for the 2020 season only. We are doing our best to place all season ticket holders as close to their usual seats as possible. You will not lose your Loyalty Point status or current seating location for 2021.
  3. If you opt out of season tickets for the 2020 Texas Football season*, you will not lose your Loyalty Point status or current seating location for 2021.

* Please note: if you choose to opt out of your 2020 Texas Football season tickets, you may convert the ticket cost and seat-related gift into a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Longhorn Foundation, into a credit toward the 2021 season, or you may request a full refund. When you convert your payments into a gift, you will receive 10 loyalty points for every $100 you give (normally 2 points per $100 for seat-related gifts).

I cannot thank you, our loyal and dedicated Texas fans, enough for your support. Your investment in our programs is invaluable, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you.

To help us provide the best gameday experience at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium this fall, we would greatly appreciate you sharing your current feelings about attending 2020 Texas Football home games. Please respond to this survey on or before July 24, 2020, and a Texas Athletics staff member will reach out to you to discuss your responses in further detail.

No strings attached refund is so un-UT athletics that it makes me think it's a sophisticated phishing scheme.

I guess I am just going to opt out at this point and go the refund route... no reason to keep dragging out hopes for a real season.

I am not sure if I should go refund route or push to next year, in all honesty, who knows what we look like this time next year, 2021 could be in danger.

Is there any information on how exactly to opt out and collect our refund?  Is CDC just telling us what the options will be at this point?

There’s a link in the email that takes you to a page where you simply select one of the three options.

5x the normal amount of loyalty points for the donation is tempting
It'd be nice if you could convert your seat donation and get the ticket price back. The whole enchilada is a lot of money.

It's 5x the normal seat related gift points but only 2x the amount of points you would get for giving a donation and not getting seats in return (which this would be).

Ya I know, but this whole thing just Effing sucks.  Not seeing any light in the tunnel currently.  I have two seasons, College Football and not College Football.

There is light.  Big progress on the vaccine front.  2021 WILL have a full football season, goddammit!

Steel Shank: You're not just telling us what we want to hear?

CDC: No sir. No way.

Steel Shank: Because we just want to know the truth.

CDC: Well I guess I am telling you what you want to hear.

Steel Shank: Boy, didn't we just tell you not to do that?

CDC: Yes sir.

Steel Shank: OK then

Ha!  The effluvia from the Chinese damn burst will poison the seas and render all seafood inedible.  Trump will cancel the election, declare martial law and be assassinated and replaced by a mid-level Lt Colonel who will insist on keeping the title. The wall with Mexico will in fact be paid for by Mexico after all to keep us here.

2021 football will be replaced with that sport the aztecs played to the death.

And there will still be fucking COVID.

The link in the email is for a survey on what you might do.  It says:

Quote
Select the option below that best fits your current feelings on attending Texas Football home games at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium this fall:
I would like to keep my season ticket purchase and remain a part of the 2020 reseating process.
I am unsure whether or not I will attend home games and need to see how things progress, but would like to remain a part of the 2020 reseating process.
I will not attend 2020 home games.

Key words are "current feelings".  I don't think you'll get an immediate refund if you select option 3.  They just want to get an idea on which way most fans are leaning.

They use that language because they're obviously going to sell you on keeping the money if you opt out. But they wouldn't put that opt out and refund option on the table if they weren't going to follow through. Once you put it out there like that it's too late to renege.

And when you select Option 3 you get to further refine your reasons. It says you will be contacted by someone in mid-Aug from the University to discuss.

I plan to:
Remain a part of the 2020 reseating process, but give my season tickets to someone else.
Remain a part of the 2020 reseating process, but resell my season tickets.
Opt out of the 2020 reseating process and my 2020 season tickets completely.

In making a decision about attending home games, I am concerned about:

Same here, as it is not worth the risk to my health (Old, advanced heart disease, assholiness) or that of Mrs. Brat, who as I type this is alone in hospital undergoing a surgery.
I would like a full refund for our four season tickets, the four OU tix, and my Brazos garage parking pass.
The LHF can keep my annual donation.

Yeah...didn’t read much beyond “keep”, which is what I chose, figuring I’ll do the 10x points thing when they officially cancel everything

50% seems pretty high. I was thinking 25-30%

Hard to believe that is the required capacity with current cases here in Austin. We have to stay 6 ft from anyone but anyone sitting 1 seat away in the stadium or those sitting in front of behind would only be 1-2 feet away. Not to mention 50% capacity while everyone is sitting still means shoulder to shoulder packed when arriving/leaving or getting concessions.

A very big concern now that I'm stuck at home with the entire family day and night.

At the very least, I'm going to let them keep my foundation donation so I don't lose my priority seating.  But I'm going to think long and hard about whether to ask for a refund of my payment for season tickets.

Speaking of thinking long and hard, can someone tell me more about porn at home games?  This may factor into my decision.

Would be better to convert it to more Dart Bowl enchiladas.

I don't think you lose priority seating for 2021... or do you mean you don't fall farther back in line? I'll consider rolling just my donation portion over to jump up a bit in priority points but before I do would be nice to know where it gets me. E.g. If I move from 6K in line to 5K how much better do my TX/OU seats get?

Good clarification.  I'd let them keep my foundation donation to get the extra loyalty points, but ask for a refund of the season tickets.

As a technical matter, the seats are in my dad's name.  The dumbest thing we did in hindsight was put the tickets in his name when we started this back in 1996.  I was still in law school and had access to student tickets, so my dad was paying for most of the first few years, but eventually we would split the costs between us.  We just weren't thinking ahead to the fact that the Longhorn Foundation won't let you transfer your season tickets to a child, at least not without requiring you to increase your donation level to current market.

For me at this point, half of something is better nothing.   Some football is better than none, even if I get more elbow room.

#49

I'm leaning towards pushing to 2021.I don't think the experience will be worth the hassle/expense. I hate this even more since we were looking forward to going to games with our new Freshman, and I couldn't care less about the Patterson era "loyalty points" or anything else that jackass came up with.
