April 2, 20223 yr Oh, and I drunk posted the picture last night that I posted back in January. Disregard.
April 3, 20223 yr Anyone grab the UHQR Are You Experienced? I did even though I have a nice OG tricolor Reprise. Should be great. #516 reporting for duty.
April 4, 20223 yr Author Anyone grab the UHQR Are You Experienced? I did even though I have a nice OG tricolor Reprise. Should be great. When did you order it? I just checked my account and it says it’s on back order. Hopefully that’s just a quirk on the site until it ships and it’s not really already gone.
April 4, 20223 yr When did you order it? I just checked my account and it says it’s on back order. Hopefully that’s just a quirk on the site until it ships and it’s not really already gone. Well, I thought I ordered Thursday, but I fucked up and never hit the final ‘place order’ button, so I reordered Friday afternoon. I have read that it will show backordered, then change to on hold or in process, then finally will ship. But it’s supposed to be normal.
April 9, 20223 yr Author Fear Inoculum arrived today. It sounds phenomenal. It’s like hearing these songs for the first time. Get your hands in this if you remotely like Tool.
April 12, 20223 yr Eric Johnson put a bunch of signed stuff on his web store recently. Among them are some double LPs like these two classics. I've never picked up Ah Via Musicom on vinyl (3 digital versions of it, obv.) so him offering autographed copies of the LE gold vinyl version was like he was speaking to my heart.
April 14, 20223 yr The 45rpm Pallas pressing of Rumours has finally been repressed. This one was mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman and is absolutely incredible. Was going for nearly $200 just last month before it was repressed. Get it while it’s hot! Free shipping from AS, too. https://store.acousticsounds.com/d/73243/Fleetwood_Mac-Rumours-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record
April 21, 20223 yr The super deluxe of the most anachronistic album ever created came in. Have we already been over how much I dig overwrought productions like this? Pretty excited to check out the OG concert.

Really glad I was able to see them before Peart kicked it.
April 21, 20223 yr That album has no business existing in 1981. Humans just haven't progressed far enough by then. It makes no sense.

It's never sounded better. And I'm not trying to take away from the record and I don't disagree with you. I just feel that way about quite a few records and for me it's a tough competition. I mean - MP for me isn't anachronistic it's just a sick band hitting their peak and blowing some doors off the hinges. Like - I don't put it over the wall and that was a year before. But we're focusing on the wrong shit man... Holy fuck how good is this remaster? Edited April 21, 20223 yr by ztejas
April 21, 20223 yr Although maybe it's the same remaster as 2011? (Pretty sure it is - kicks ass either way) I'll just tack on to this post since it seems like you'll catch up later - in terms of most anachronistic or ahead of their time records - I'd probably submit another PF album - Dark Side of the Moon - from 73. I think in general that's a pretty fucking difficult one to top. Maybe that's a cop out answer but if so it's a cop out for a reason. I'm not sure anyone realized they could make music like that until that record became popular. I'm also going to throw in that Thriller was just a year later in 82. Reggatta de Blanc - 79 Heroes - 77 Not trying to prove you wrong or be a dick - you just got me thinking and I'm throwing more examples like Moving Pictures out there that are totally timeless. May 20, 20223 yr We're gonna be all over the place this weekend.(When I was younger I didn't really appreciate this version of Layla - OG Layla is the goat rock song and this was neutered too much for me. Now that I'm older and more lame, I've come to appreciate this take.)I have the super deluxe of the Black Album, and it's a stellar presentation. This one of Ride the Lightning looks similar. Now if your boy can just find an SD Puppets for less than the cost of a late model Toyota...
May 21, 20223 yr If you missed the RSD Art Pepper like me, Plaid Room still has a few as of now. https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/products/art-pepper-art-pepper-meets-the-rhythm-section-mono
May 21, 20223 yr My vintage Dual turntable saga continues. Finally got it back from service and the tone arm was binding. Got a refund after having them dicking with it for a year and sent it to Bill Neumann in Iowa. Complete teardown service. Should have it back in a month. I've missed vinyl.
May 28, 20223 yr Picked up the Daft Punk Iron: Legacy soundtrack and the 30th Anniversary box set of Nirvana's Nevermind. Looking forward to giving both a spin tonight
May 28, 20223 yr My have been posted earlier...John Fogerty is 77 today per Deep Tracks..happey birthday John and thanks for the memories!!!

Looking forward to giving both a spin tonight Yeah, Nirvana Nevermind Super Deluxe hit this past week. Bout to crank it. Pretty stoked for this one. Especially looking forward to the ephemera. And my copy of Art Pepper arrived (ordered because of this thread!). As much as I'm a fan of 50s/60s jazz, it surprises me how Art Pepper has managed to sit in my blindspot for so long. This ends now. The replacement for my jacked up copy of the Pallas Rumours showed up as well. And, after forgetting I ordered from the band's website an eternity ago, some rather hard to find Kitten records arrived too. About to be busy and loud at the Boom household.
July 9, 20223 yr Crossposted from the HI-FI thread. Final update on the Beautiful Monster. After almost a year and a half of dealing with service/repair of the whole setup, I finally had to send my turntable to a Dual specialist in Iowa. Full tear down rebuild with new tone arm bearings, which had failed. It lives! Edited July 9, 20223 yr by dcbc

Full tear down rebuild with new tone arm bearings, which had failed. It lives! Hell yes! That’s great, I’m glad you finally got everything fixed. I also finally decided to replace the speaker relay on my Marantz 2245. I can solder, though I’m not the best at it. It would’ve been easier if I had more wire to work with (so I ended up using the same wire ends), but I got the job done. No more right channel dropping or weak signal. Almost like having a new damn receiver! That shit had been bothering me for years.

No more right channel dropping or weak signal. Almost like having a new damn receiver! That shit had been bothering me for years. Nice! I'm not all that good at soldering and don't want to be anywhere near those big ass capacitors in that McInotsh amp. The guys who serviced it were ultimately good, but I had to take it back for stuff they missed and, ultimately, got my money back on the turntable service so I could send it off to get it fixed properly. The guy who fixed it basically said, I'm sure those McIntosh guys meant well, but they're electricians, and this thing is largely a mechanical beast.
July 9, 20223 yr Yeah, those old Duals were something else. I rehabbed a 1219 once and it was really cool to see how that thing worked underneath. Like some kinda mini-Rube Goldberg. Luckily all that one needed was a cleaning, relube, and a new steuerpimpel (what a word).

I ordered one from Dual in Germany, but the guy I used either makes his own or has stock and it's included in the price. Been a while since I've seen this table make nice, abrupt yet precise, oh, let's just say it, German movements. It's been a long while coming.
July 10, 20223 yr A few recent grabs to keep it going:ZZ Top Wordwide Texas Tour promo. I usually don’t get stuff like this, but it was apparently done from the actual master tapes and it sounds like it. Since they’re tracks from their best era, even better. A few Japanese pressings. Japanese mastering choices can be hit or miss, but anything with PJ or SMJ in the catalog number for Jazz (Prestige and Riverside titles, mostly) is really excellent, IMO. Here are a few with an Atlantic Coltrane which is also done well. I have a few Japanese Zeppelin pressings, and I can say that these very first issues with MT catalog numbers and Blue/Green Atlantic labels are actually pretty great sounding. They existed for Zep I-III, though I only own copies of II and III. I have 3 RL Zeppelin IIs, and this is just behind those, probably comparable to a George Piros cut from ‘77. The later Warner Pioneer issues got progressively worse.
July 10, 20223 yr You’re in luck since it was just (finally) officially reissued (that’s what mine above is). It was pressed at United though, so the QC sucks. Amazon has it, AS also has it in stock. https://store.acousticsounds.com/d/169635/Cake-Fashion_Nugget-180_Gram_Vinyl_Record
July 10, 20223 yr Thanks. Bought that shit. Saw them, Carl Perkins, Jack Ingram and Soul Coughing at Austin Music Hall during SXSW in 1996.

July 11, 20223 yr went to the most overpriced record store i've ever seen in nola a couple weeks ago, peaches records. started browsing through the new releases and didn't find anything under $60. figured i would check out the used section...best of the doobie brothers $50, wtf? talked to some folks working at other record stores around town and the consensus seems to be that it's a drug front because ain't nobody payin those prices.
July 21, 20223 yr Kush and OJ 10th anniversary release on vinyl. (2020). Packaging is awesome. Put one of the discs against the window to show the translucent effects. Vinyl looks black until you put it against light. Cover is like an OJ container. Oh, and sounds great.
July 21, 20223 yr Does anybody else want to compare Discogs estimated collection value? Mine is getting to the point where I think I should maybe burn down my house.
July 21, 20223 yr how the hell do you have time to put your entire collection into discogs? I've never even considered it a possibility.
July 21, 20223 yr I did it during Covid.I’ve apparently got 527, and my 3 values are $3,800, $9,500, and $32,000.
July 21, 20223 yr I did it as I got into collecting, luckily, so I didn’t have to go back and do it all at once.
