Dale Murphy hit a home run in the Dome over my head in the Pavillion once that I thought was going to kill me when it left the bat. Glad I didn't have a chance to attempt to catch that one.

Workman to Philly.

The Phillies announced the trade: They’re getting Workman, Hembree and cash for righties Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold.

Not exactly baseball related, but this headline caught my eye looking for new games for the kids in the fall.... and then I see the author...

of course Keith Law is a board game dork:

somewhere in Eastern Ohio lies a secret farm where the Indians grow ridiculous young pitchers.

A one-of-a-kind Mike Trout baseball card set a new record on Saturday night for the highest selling sports card of all time, selling for $3,936,000.

The 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Superfractor signed rookie card sold at Gold Auctions online, eclipsing the previous record, which was set in 2016 in the sale of a 1909 Honus Wagner T-206 card for $3.12 million.

The Trout card is in mint condition, graded by Beckett Grading Service as a Mint 9 with a certified autograph issue logo on the card attesting to the authenticity of the signature.

I had no idea people were paying millions for cards that are 11 years old. Mind boggling bottling.

So young the Taiwan Little League wouldn't let him play.  "Come back in a couple of years."

Today's chapter from Zen and the Art of Greinke:

Of course the usual:

But then, having a rough 4th inning, Zack complains about the landing spot, goes into the dugout for a drink and sit as the grounds crew comes out, Padres complain, ump tells Greinke to get back on the field, so he chills and supervises:

(The Rangers had also complained about the mound this week.  Perhaps worth noting that the Padres broke his collarbone a few years ago.)

But the Padres got the last laugh, for now:

Remember when we all thought BP was crazy for ranking Tatis as a better prospect than Vlad Jr?

Shouldn’t count what with all the free money the Fed is printing these days.

asterisk attached to this sale.

Honus will always be my baseball card champion

Dodgers on a 44-16 pace halfway through.  That probably gets them in the playoffs.

And then be forced to win 2 in a row to keep their season alive after Kershaw lays an egg in game 1 of the first round

congrats

Trout is clearly passing the torch to this dude within the next 3-4 years, right? He’s elite at everything. I saw him turn a double play against the rangers where it seemed like he had no chance to get Kiner-Falefa, but his arm is ridiculous.

the young talent coming up in the MLB and NBA portends a new golden age of talent for each sport. it's really an amazing time to be a young-ish sports fan. the next 10-20 years look to be something special.

these two relays yesterday were awesome:

I was watching the Jays game and I thought there was no chance that Wendle was getting thrown out.

It seems impossible that the Angels have the worst record in the AL...

Especially with the best player in baseball on the roster. It’s a crime that Trout has played in one playoff series in his career.

random thought(s): i want to see a hitter do something like two 3-HR games in one series or something. that would be cool. is there a place to go to look up stats like that? like "fewest days between 3-HR games" or something like that.

Doug Decinces 5 days in 1982

Possibly an easier way but this works for me:

Brandon Woodruff just got boned out of an immaculate inning in the top of the 1st against the Reds. he made Votto, Castellanos, and Winker look silly.

This is somewhat impressive

3 run first inning shot for Mad Max.  Against the hated ones.

That didn’t last long.  Belt hits a 3 run shot in the top of the 2nd.

The girlfriend is constantly rolling her eyes at the absurd stats they spout or show during games... to which I do my best to find even more stupid or absurd stats

glad I have another one to add to the list!

I was enjoying the Padres broadcast but I'm pretty positive Root Sports was just clowning around on that one.  One of the broadcasters likes to joke about his lack of understanding on advanced stats and they served him up one last night.

Mariners might also boycott tonight.

M's have the most black players in MLB. I suspect they will also sit out tonight.

You might be correct.

So everytime there is an incident with a cop now teams are going to boycott? Cool...

That’s cute that some teams are boycotting their games. The Yankees had TWO games today, and didn’t show up for either of them. That’s commitment to a cause.

Lol Royals, what a shitshow in B9. 4 walk, 1 HBP, a double, and a single that could have been an E blows a 5-2 lead.

Still want to see Slam Diego match up with them in a PO series.   Can the Padres bats stay hot?  Can LA's pitching show up?

Also down with Manny Machado taking out Baby Joe at the mound.   Mutual destruction would be very satisfy...

Big time trades so far today

Blue Jays got Taijuan Walker from the Mariners

Rays got Brett Phillips from the Royals
