July 30, 20205 yr Ok...Dolly is a national treasure. Correction - a global treasure. I remember when I was a kid, my gruff S. Texas oil patch/ranching grandpa said, when Dolly came on the show we were watching, “people just see the hair and the boobs, but she’s the most talented singer there is.” And I listened, and agreed. And she is kind, and good. She gives so much to her community, to literacy and the needy, all of it. And so, I’ve got a couple of drinks in me, and my wife and I were talking about how one of my dream trips is to go spend a month in Ireland, to find a home pub, and end up there every night, drinking more than I should and singing with the other drunks. And it reminded me of this, one of my favorite videos of all time:

July 30, 20205 yr Dolly is an angel. What a wonderful woman. What she has done for literacy in this country is amazing.

Our highest civilian honor is the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It's value has gone down recently, unfortunately. She deserves that, and much, much more.
July 30, 20205 yr Her looks and rack make it easy to overlook how incredibly talented she is as a singer and songwriter, and how shrewd she is as a businesswoman. Watching the Ken Burns Country Music documentary, I think how incredible she is was one of my bigger takeaways. The story of how she wrote "I Will Always Love You" (which she wrote in the SAME FUCKING DAY SHE WROTE JOLENE) to soften the blow/get out of her partnership with Porter Wagoner is great. If it wasn't for Maybelle Carter she'd easily be the biggest female badass in country music history, potentially in the history of American music. Edited July 30, 20205 yr by Celery Man

If there is such a thing as the "Total Package", it's Dolly Parton. An unimpeachably brilliant artist, and insanely beautiful woman.
July 30, 20205 yr Saw thread title but then noticed it wasn't in NSAA (I am not a fan of the IPIHB forum title)
July 30, 20205 yr I heard a rumor once that she's basically completely tatted below the neck and above the knee. I had one of those "seek medical attention" hard ons conjuring that image up. Well, the 1975 version of it.

March 4Mar 4 A 60 year marriage is a beautiful thing. I agree that she’s a national treasure. The stage of life when one’s spouse dies of old age is so bittersweet, I watched both my parents (dad died first) and my in laws (MIL died first) go through it. Prayers for Dolly. And now she’s single. Just sayin’.
March 4Mar 4 he's the legends of legends you know the old saying, somewhere there a guy that's tired of her shit ... she's the exception to that rule

March 5Mar 5 Stern's interview of Dolly is fantastic. She is so poised and knows how to handle herself in every situation. Definitely worth a listen. When Howard asked her if she had running water in her childhood hills of Tennessee, she replied, "The only way we got runnin' water was if I'd run 'n' get it!" Ultimate American badass.

She didn't shy away from the sexist bullshit that she has endured every day of her life, but she didn't condemn it or demonize anyone about it either. She just handles her business with confidence, strong boundaries, and good faith.
March 6Mar 6 Buddy of mine was engineering sound for some big county show with a bunch of acts. Some kind of variety show. She came to my buddy and asked for the script. Brought it back in about an hour. Just before the show, see monitored back to the sound board to let him know that the Gatlins had switched their mics to the opposite sides of the stage and thought he might need to know that. In an hour, she learned her lines, everyone else's lines as well as the sound engineer and lighting guy's job. He said he has yet to meet anyone as smart as her.
June 22Jun 22 I did not have Dolly Parton and Motley Crue collaborating on my bingo card. (searched but did not see this posted anywhere so apologies if it has been posted)
June 22Jun 22 I love how they use decades-old clips for Motley Crew because Dolly, at 79, looks better than any of them in their 60s.
June 22Jun 22 Looks like dolly singing with and over the original track to me. Not sticking around for the end, are any of the crue actually participating?
October 7Oct 7 Quote "Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly," Freida posted on Facebook Tuesday. "Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me. She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!" https://www.fox4news.com/news/dolly-parton-sister-prayers-health-issues
