I listen to a lot of latin american music and nearly any groovy or percussion oriented yet super slow music can get thrown into the category of "cumbia" and people don't really disagree with it. Its more about having the sneaky slow rhythm that sets this genre apart from the others.

 

Kind of a classic, El Pescador has that slow percussion vibe and repetitive chorus but its so catchy

 

 

Some of the newer stuff from the past decade, this one has something like a downtempo trip hop vibe
