August 1, 20205 yr Season starts before we know it. Liverpool vs. Arsenal in the Community Shield August 29th. Match week 1 is September 12th. Europa and Champions League matches in the next few weeks might really throw a wrench into things for those clubs at the beginning of the season. Leeds and Bielsa coming up, WBA and one of Brentford/Fulham; Norwich, Bournemouth, and Watford relegated. Any clubs outside of Chelsea and Man City going to be able to spend big this summer? We can make relegation and top 6 predictions once more of the transfer season has shaken out.
August 1, 20205 yr Arteta certainly made the case for some financial backing from Stan and Co. If we unload Ozil and DL and Lacazette (as I think we should) we could have some cash to spend. Pretty optimistic headed into the season.
August 1, 20205 yr Author Arteta definitely turned the ship around quickly. Extending Saka and Martinelli was key along with the emergence of Martinez. Y’all need CB’s but so does Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham and United.
August 1, 20205 yr not technically PL anymore, but.. Eddie Howe out. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8584037/Eddie-Howe-LEAVES-Bournemouth-mutual-consent.html
August 2, 20205 yr In. Also Howe and Bournemouth. A legend at that club.Pool easy again. The rest I think will be well contested.
August 4, 20205 yr Fulham pull ahead in extra time off a nice free kick. I guess the keeper thought it was going wide. Edited August 4, 20205 yr by mdmost
August 4, 20205 yr Just now, WBT said: Whoa, what was the keeper doing on that one? Laying down 500 large on Fulham.
August 4, 20205 yr Just now, Stringer said: Creeping up to punch out a high cross, I guess? Worst feeling in the world for a keeper. That dive was hilarious though.

August 4, 20205 yr Brentford missed a wide open header maybe three minutes ago. what might have been.

August 6, 20205 yr Author No drinks break is going away as well. And more VAR for crappy EPL refs to screw up.

The Athletic had a couple articles that really painted Arsenal in a bad light. Apparently the players aren't happy about the redundancies after taking 12.5% pay cuts in the understanding that those pay cuts were for retention of staff. Arsenal also laid off a bunch of their scouting and analytics department. They're supposedly going with a more "contacts driven" recruitment strategy.

The Guardian had a great article that basically said that Eduardo, Arsenal's Director of Football, wants a Wolves-type strategy where they just have a mega-agent (in this case Kia Joorabchian vs Jorge Mendes at Wolves) funnel them players, versus carrying the expense of a full scouting and analytics team. It seemed like a great way for a smaller club like Wolves to have access to Mendes' army of kickass Portuguese players, but I'm not sure it's a great fit for a club with real aspirations like Arsenal.

Giving two 31 year olds (Auba and Willian) big money 3 year deals seems great for Arsenal and totally not in Joorabchian's best interest.

August 21, 20205 yr There isn't a lot of news in the English papers, but this Greek article says that his group of guys (Marcus Rashford, Brandon Williams and Love Island star Chris Hughes) got into a fight with another group of Brits for "annoying" the WAG. This got the police involved and Harry punched one of them. https://www.protothema.gr/greece/article/1036909/mukonos-sunelifthi-exo-apo-bar-o-arhigos-tis-madsester-giounaited/
August 22, 20205 yr That's what you want from your captain, really. Hanging out with Love Island "stars" and punching foreign cops.
