De Get botched it, but WTF was Luke Shaw doing?  Just ball watching and let Doucoure run right by him.

HOLY SHIT! With mere seconds remaining.

i missed that stat how many times they haven't won when up 2 at halftime, how many, since when or all time.... ???

Can’t believe DC-L missed that open goal at the end of first half but given how it went, I’ll take the point.

so, this is not only *not* a penalty for Arsenal, but in fact it's a foul on Lacazette and a free kick for Villa. got it.

every game with Arsenal the officials find new ways to prove to me that everything i've always thought about fouls/bookings is wrong.

If City wins this game, I’m not sure I see ManU catching them anymore.

Now compare that foul to the one that got DL a red. No consistency.

i hate both penalty calls in this game.

i feel like that for about 90% of them these days.

That Alison chick seems like she sucks

I went to turn it on and City is up 3-1. Wtf happened??

Alison with 2 solid assists for City

That last one... you gotta save that. City not leaving any doubts about who's winning the title this season. Really impressive turnaround for them.

Totally different calls.

FIrst off, I agree that DLs red was BS, non-intentional foul, so let’s not debate that.

But in that case he was the last man. There was no defender after him. If deemed intentional it has to be a red

This penalty had another defender there taking the last man call away.

Yeah. Some of the soccer heads have been talking about how Pep tightened up the D and they are a completely different team now can start of the season. This title race is over.

Man, when Liverpool’s GK’s melt down, they fucking being with the most epic possible meltdowns. Jesus Christ.

I see Klopp went off on another reporter yesterday.  Never thought he'd turn into such a giant bitch when he's not winning.

Like clockwork...every single time.  Certainly respect him and envy the success they have had under him, but they are so fucking insufferable when they lose.  i love how he acts like everyone's not playing the same crazy ass schedule as liverpool.

according to uefa, city's total wage bill for 2018 was £267 million and liverpool's was £255.  not exactly the yankees and pirates there.  in 2021, active player payroll is £136 for city and £118 for liverpool.  city paid £149 in transfer fees and pool paid £96.

chelsea paid £250 in transfer fees.  good call.

Nice cherry picking.

talk about cherry picking...that's just transfer spending.  that is not the same as what the actual wage bill is.  there is a relatively small difference between what liverpool and city pay their players that play on the field.  i am all for you being a bitch about city spending a lot of blood and oil money but don't act like lowly liverpool who went out and just took thiago and jota this summer are competitively disadvantaged.

Which was the entire point of my post. When City needs a player, they splash the cash. This is known.

I guess my question is who did City just up and buy to fix their defensive issues?

This is worse cherry picking. Looks like that article was written last year. Over the past 3 years including this year Pool's net spending is over $160 million/~120 million GBP, while City is at $240 million/~180 million GBP. So sure they are spending more but it's close.

And I'm not siding either way - just adding context. Every big club spends crazy money.

Dias ($78 million) and Nathan Ake ($46 million)

Guys the real take home from those numbers is lolArsenal.

Fair.

But City did come into the season with issues. Their defense sucked early on and they have fixed things on the fly. I get they spent the money, but Pep did have to do SOMETHING.

Pep is the difference. You can spend all the money in the world in the PL but that doesn't guarantee anything. Spending that money correctly is a big deal and they have done that for the most part. They are about to win their 3rd title in 4 years with Pep - and one of those was in a year where they had to be virtually perfect across all 38. It's not like ManU or Pool or Chelsea are outclassed on paper when they play City - they have simply gotten less out of their talent the past few years than City has.

Now, if they sign Messi they can fuck off and at that point I will certainly take any trophies they win with a bigger grain of salt.

14 minutes ago, Captain Ron said:

They spent a bunch of money on Walker, Danilo, Cancelo, Stones, Mendy, and LaPorte. Seems like they aren't very good at spotting talent for what they are paying. Those types of mistakes would destroy most clubs.

Good to see that Cheeseweasel cries all over multiple boards.

How dare another team show up and break into our big spenders club and win a lot. It's just shameful.

Gee, look at that. Liverpool spends basically the entire 20 year period as one of the top 10 spending clubs in all of Europe. Poor little Liverpool.

Not sure how big a turn around it is really. City is on pace to get 86 points; they had 81 points last year. So a +5 point improvement.

It's probably more just how much worse Liverpool is doing this year..

99 points last year, on pace for 66 points this year.. -33 point drop off.

Mike Dean is a terrible referee, but he doesn't deserve this.

Found this interesting...

The Times is reporting that the PGMOL are considering separating the two referees [Mike Dean & Lee Mason] for a short spell.

Agreed. That table in the tweet I pointed out was through matchweek 9 of the EPL. They only played 8 games at that point, but they were in 13th place with 12 points (3-3-2 W-D-L). They were floundering, on pace for 57 points. Pep did something right.

To be fair, Cheese is right about something. When you spend the money and you spend it right - you can win titles (see VVD).

But it takes a special coach to coach around big losses or even dips in play. Pep is doing something we all wish our teams were doing.

Pretty much

I think he should've had Alison more prepared for that match.
