a couple of weeks ago, you could have put that same thing up for a win at anfield.

i suppose it is a bit cheapened by the fact that virtually everyone is doing it now.

The best part of Everton's success, is that the higher they get, the more awesome the fall is.

damn, missed opportunity.  should have gone with "is that also the counter for the last time liverpool scored at anfield?"

Well that's 2 absolute rockets off the crossbar in about 10 minutes. Gotta bury those, or it will come back to bite you.

So 2 points on that:

1. The FA has been pretty clear and consistent that even in unnatural positions, a ball kicked into a hand/arm at close range is not a handball.

2. As a whole I really hate this rule. You basically are telling defenders to move in close and spread out your arms, because even if it hits your arm, we won’t call it.

But as the rules are being called, that isn’t a penalty.

Boy, you aren’t kidding.

ManU up 2-0 at City.  they're looking impressive.  very composed.  they're gonna rue dropping so many points against shitty teams.

This is pretty much the story of everyone in the EPL. City has gotten away because they don't drop these points while everyone else does. Man U is the one with the best chance of catching them, but having the biggest small number still means you have a small number.

only one of those was called a penalty.

Again as noted by the way the EPL calls it, only one of those is even penalty worthy (the Chelsea call).

big matches today.  Chelsea/Everton (NBCS) and West Ham/Leeds (Peacock)

if Everton and West Ham both win, they jump into 4th and 5th place, respectively, ahead of Chelsea and with a game in hand.

it is a pretty big one and we just got gut punched.  james not in the lineup again which sucks...we really need him if we are going to be anywhere near our best and be able to do anything against chelsea's defensive dominance of late.  we have not been able to possess in the midfield for shit in the last few games without him.

hopefully dc-l/richarlison can slip a few by.

26% possession at half.  is that good?

aaand that'll do it.

utterly piss poor effort today.  don't even look like they want to be there in one of the most important games of the season.

West Ham making a statement.  up 2-0 on Leeds.  of course, with Leeds, this ain't over.  it could be a 5-4 game.

David Moyes coach of the year? What a strange timeline.

After they came very close to being relegated last year.

and conversely, one top 10 finisher from last year, and possibly two, getting relegated this year.

Lots of reports that they'll mutually part ways with Wilder after the season. Wilder brought them up from League One to the PL.

seems like a good time to look at 538's league predictor.

  • Spoiler alert - City got it wrapped up.
  • Things looking up for Chelsea
  • Pool and Spurs get European football - not the type they were looking for
  • Everton on the outside looking in.
  • Fulham pulls itself out of relegation. Sorry Newcastle.

interestingly, if Newcastle gets relegated, those storied long trips to the north wont be happening. (No Newcastle, no Sunderland)

Hopefully Sunderland get promoted to the Championship so the Tyne and Wear Derby happens again.

Maybe. This assumes that the FA and EFL Cups are won by a top 4 team. Not to say they won't be, but the only slots that are sure European slots are 1-5.

Just a quick clarification on the breakdown of who goes where:

EPL 1-4 - Champions League:

EPL 5 - Europa League

FA Cup Winner - Europa League
(Currently at the quarter finals: Bournemouth v Southampton / Everton v Man City / Chelsea v Sheffield United / Leicester v Man U)

EFL Cup Winner - Europa Conference League (a new 3rd tier league behind the Europa League) (Final is Spurs v Man City)

That has Spurs written all over it.

Hey let's not forget about if liverpool wins CL and spurs/arsenal win Europa...then whoever is number 4 is out of CL..epl would have their max 5 spots

That would be the icing on the cake for this wacky covid season.

I think Chelsea winning CL and sliding to 5th in EPL is maybe a bit more likely. Not like either of us have any chance in hell at getting past City, PSG or Bayern.

For you Peacockless amongst us, it's been a BORING first half.  Villa/Toon scoreless at the break.

Welp.  Literally last second.  Newcastle with the equalizer.  1-1 final.

at least you took a point.  in two matches, everton have amassed a whopping 0 points against newcastle and got their asses drilled nowthis style both times.  it will be the reason we finish 6th or 7th instead of 4th.

Lol @ city or PSG ever winning the CL....

Fabinho is back in the midfield and hendo will be possibly back for 2nd leg next rd

It's not as far fetched as you think...but we'll see
