Discovery running some cool SpaceX programming up to the splashdown. Found this feed if you're interested.

Fortunately they are landing off Pensacola. Hurricane Isaias won't be a factor.

20 minutes until reentry begins.

Quote

The Crew Dragon spacecraft will enter Earth's atmosphere traveling at a speed of about 17,000 mph (27,000 km/h). The friction of particles in the atmosphere will create a drag force, slowing it down drastically while heating the outside of the capsule to temperatures nearly as hot as the sun.

A heat shield protects the astronauts from these extreme temperatures, but the spacecraft likely won't look as pristine after its return as it will before the launch. When SpaceX's Demo-1 Crew Dragon spacecraft returned from its uncrewed test flight in March 2019, it looked like a toasted marshmallow.

GD it! I walked out on the porch to see if I could see reentry and saw a thin streak in the sky. THERE IT IS! Then I realised I was seeing a spider web.

Really cool that they have infrared cameras to track the capsules descent, this is really fucking awesome to see so much info being made available

The camera work has been finominole. They had telescopic shots of it in orbit before re-entry.

The recovery is badass, too. They stay in the capsule and get picked up by a recovery ship.

I realize space is a much harsher environment than open ocean, but this stage seems to be incredibly slow and subject to failure.

Too cool!

Yep, we all need some good news right now. Opening up an ice cold Tecate to toast them!

25 minutes until they get hoisted. Jezus. What if someone was injured? What if there was a leak? This needs fixed. Weakest link and what all.

I recall after the 2nd sub-orbital flight of the Mercury capsule in 1961, Gus Grissom prematurely blew the hatch off while floating in the Atlantic. He barely got out in time before it sank.

The old capsule was found and retrieved a few Years ago.

28 minutes until they crack the hatch.

Dumb fucks in private vessels circling around the capsule.

That's faster than taxi at DFW.

Lol at the private boats getting that close to the capsule.

I mean, I’d do the same thing if I was out on the water, but seriously.

Which is why I use Park-N Fly. Shuttle is waiting when I walk out.
