Help me out Surly...

What are the rules for CFB players sitting out due to "high risk contact tracing" related to Covid??     (Thought I heard 3-5 days minimum quarantine and two negative test results before returning??)

The contact tracing rules result in holding out 44 players -- that's CRAZY!!

Longhorns in the NFL: Roster tracker as team's cut down to 53

On Sept. 5, NFL teams were forced to make cuts in order to trim their roster down to 53 players.  While the deadline is a celebration for some, it’s absolutely heartbreaking for others. Unfortunately, several former Longhorns will be looking for a new opportunity elsewhere as they did not make the initial 53-man roster for their respective teams.  A few of the Texas ex’s are expected to either be signed to the practice squad and/or be picked up by another team. Let’s take a closer look at the players that were considered on the bubble to survive the final round of roster cuts.

   Still on 53-man Roster

  • Andrew Beck – TE/FB   Denver Broncos
  • Calvin Anderson – OL     Denver Broncos
  • Malcolm Roach – DL        New Orleans
  • Geoff Swaim – TE.           Tennessee Titans
  • Collin Johnson -- WR     Jacksonville

Waived by current team

  • P.J. Locke – DB      Denver  Waived Sept. 5

Denver appears interested in bringing him back as a practice squad member if he clears waivers.

  • Tyrone Swoopes – TE      Philadelphia Waived Sept. 5
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey – WR  New Orleans Waived Sept. 5
  • Marcus Johnson – WR  Indianapolis  Waived Sept. 5

Team sources indicate that Indianapolis hopes to bring Johnson back as a practice squad member if he clears waivers.

  • Malik Jefferson – LB   LA Chargers Waived Sept. 5
  • Zach Shackelford – OL Tampa Bay Waived Sept. 5
  • Garrett Gilbert --  QB      Browns  Waived Sept. 5

Damn, it’s kind of a mindfuck to see guys like Swoopes, MJ, and squints last that long in the NFL.

Love to see Jake earn this but also tells me this program is not where I thought we would be, Jake should not be anywhere near the field in Year 1. OL remains a fuckityfuck.

Getting your stripe off has nothing to do with starting, it's about effort, practicing well, and buy-in.

Jerrin Thompson was the first guy to get his off and he's not coming anywhere close to the starting lineup this year.

Westcott Eberts thinks this is a bitchass post.

Having a true freshman OL come in who’s ahead of schedule is not a sign the OL’s in a bad place, and getting his stripe taken off is not a sign he’s anywhere near seeing the field.

Hell, if he gets some action during blowouts it wouldn't be a bad thing.

We should get concerned if he sees the field while the outcome is in question.

Very concerned.

Username does not check out.

Kid gets an attaboy in practice and somebody’s pussy hurts as a result?

lulz at majors getting his stripe removed.  we are so fucked if he takes meaningful snaps in games.  just another data point against herman.

Even walk-ons get their stripes taken off.

Yes, think we should fire him before the game next week? I think it would be the prudent, wise thing to do. This stripe business will have us wandering the wilderness of mediocrity throughout this decade if we dont act right away.

Ghirmai should still have his stripe on.

Are we getting a press conference at noon, since it's game week?

It feels good to see we have pushed past all the pandemic bs and Surly football discussions are back to a familiar place

I gotta scour twitter but I could have sworn that the BIG12 was doing it's media day this week, tomorrow maybe?

Edit: It begins tonight

I just looked at the TV schedule and LHN has one scheduled at noon.

LTtxfan, you seem like a good kid, but if you come back next week with the 9/13/1997 score, I’ll neg you to Bolivia. 😉

Fucking Mackovic.

Prediction: Schooler becomes a fan favorite due to his special teams demon nature and wild ass hair. He can play offense or defense, valuable during a pandemic. And he goes on to have a nice guaranteed spot on an NFL roster the next 8: years because of the special teams thing. A great addition.

I hope Gabriel Watson surprises folks and kicks ass at Texas so he gets a shot playing on Sundays... might be a great 3rd down back and special teams player!!
