Looking for 3-4 bedroom there but scared of scams. Have never used either cause hotels are free for me.
Any way to verify before booking?

We have booked with both of those sites but not for South Padre.

Never a problem. Sites are reputable & will aid in any booking issues or "not as advertised", etc.

Read reviews, they are only made by verified customers.

Watch out for the "cleaning fee", however.

Staying 1 night for $ 125? $ 100 tacked on (total added to the advertised fee).

Staying 10 nights for $ 1,000? $ 100 tacked on (total added to the advertised fee).

Padre gets interesting because of all the Mexican national owners.

I've vrbo'd several times from Mexican Nats that had odd listings and the condos turned out great. Follow advice above and read terms/warnings on vrbo site and you should be fine.

I’ve never had a problem with either site.  Probably used them between 10-20 times.  I also don’t book the place that looks just as nice as everything else, but half the price, with no reviews.

Well, whether you stay one day or 10, the place gets a full cleaning after you leave.

I have used both with no issues but I feel like I trust VRBO more for some reason.

Rented a condo couple weeks ago in SPI through VRBO, no issues, great experience.

Used VRBO a last month in SPI with no problem.

https://spirentals.com seems to have a lot of places and they were managing the place we rented if you want to go with someone with a office down there.

Find a few places you like. Read the reviews for those places. All of the reviews. Every single review.

Also read the house rules. Some places are quiet after 10pm. Some places you can party all night.
