Yeah, in for this. Even if his last two forays into sci-fi were meh.

A different take.

It's more than possible that the momentum of that first episode might be enough to carry some viewers — fans of evasive-yet-ponderous hard sci-fi — through the series. I found the next five episodes a study in diminishing returns, the breathtaking aesthetic fading with Scott and Wolski's baton-passing after the second episode and the overall world of the show becoming less and less compelling with each contrived plot point and thinly sketched new character. With nobody and nothing to really care about, I'll probably skip the season's last four episodes.

Agree with that.  A+ television

I have to say I like Ragnar's chances against Bowie.

I like the trailer - not sure who the protagonist will be. I suspect that is intentional.

He did say original sci-fi which the expanse tv show is not but then he cited the battlestar reboot. 🤔

I hope one of his last two forays wasn't  Prometheus the movie that shall not be named, because that steaming pile of shit was a lot more than "meh".

Not sure if my question should be how old is Ridley Scott, or how old was he when he made alien like 45 years ago?

Good god, he’s 82. Realistically, how much Ridley Scott sci-fi do we have left??

Taking his brother's life force probably bought him another 5-10 years.

The Expanse

Just one other thought on that trope in films -- it works well with "hard sci-fi" because most fans of that genre want to know how the future might challenge assumption. Blade Runner was hard sci-fi that illustrated some of the dilemmas posed by AI. The Alien narrative has settled on that issue as a primary one for our future (at a time when we are setting the rules for AI (or not setting any rules).

This series appears to be expanding on those issues - given the trailer.

Hook 'em.

Excellent first episode.

Watched all 3. I’m interested enough

The wife and I binged the first three episodes last night and we dig it so far. Great acting and visuals.

Looks like we are getting 2 episodes every Thursday.

I guess I’m now an old person, but I can’t find this damn show. I had hbo go, which earlier this year ended, so now I use the “hbo” app. Is that different form hbo max?

Yes it’s different. And there’s still no app for Roku.

or firestick, right?

Interesting so far, we are 6 episodes in.

Couldn’t tell if they were doing the AI rampancy angle or what, still think that might be in play.

You can side load a firestick.

Think I’m giving upon this one 5 episodes in.

Just watched the whole thing over the last week or so.

I dug it.

The opening theme is stuck in my head. Tried to see if there was more of the song out there, but it was original to the show.

It feels like it is in the same universe as Alien based only on the Android tech,  but I don’t remember any religion at all in the Alien franchise.

I’ll watch season 2.

I’ll give Ridley Scott this: he’s not afraid to make what the fuck he wants to make.
