I wonder if his brother is next

Sign me up if we also add his brother. Looks like Brenden is a very good special teams player.

Anwar:

Texas is actively trying to sign Oregon grad transfer receiver Brenden Schooler, according to my sources.

Brenden Schooler spent the four seasons at Oregon, where he began his career as a safety before moving to receiver. Schooler missed most of last season because of a foot injury. He caught 43 passes for 521 yards and four touchdowns as a Duck. He accumulated 74 tackles and four interceptions as a freshman.

However, Texas is not in the mix to land Colin Schooler, according to people inside the building.

Not sure how much receiver he'll actually play for us - but I'm excited to see him racing down the field on specials teams.  He appears to have the talent and temperament for special teams..

Thats odd - he transferred to Arizona to play with his brother - but they're not going to transfer together?  Wonder if Colin is off to West Virginia too.

Assuming its just Brendan - this is similar to the Watson pickup.  Gives the team an excellent special teams player and a good experienced WR for depth and raises the floor of his position group.

It seems so long since we were consistently dominant on special teams. So until further notice, I'm all for adding guys who are really good at it.

We were 98th in kickoff coverage defense last season. Let's hope that improves now with Schooler.

That, and Boulware using starters.

Dude could play Minnesota High School hockey with that hair.

Boulware, Coleman, and Hutzler all have legit Special Teams experience. That should make a huge difference this year compared to the grab bag of incompetents we used last year.

This had me very confused for an embarrassingly long period of time

Right on.  We may have found our next Beau Trahan.

I'm going to call his brother Dale, not Colin  and they better take pictures in argyle vests

Is there a WR attrition that’s not been announced?

None that has been reported by anyone.  I think Herman just wants some more experience in that WR room.  This is the third grad-transfer WR they've been interested in post-Black.

This guy offers the bonus of being a top special teams player.

Don’t forget Omeir is out for the season.

Just my quick two pennies on what the addition of Brenden Schooler is really all about.

Special Teams

We have a renewed emphasis on special teams due to the backgrounds of our new staff. Not just Boulware, but also Hutzler and Coleman. They have deep backgrounds.

Schooler is a two time 1st team All Pac 12 special teams player. The gunner on the punt team. A lot of good head coaches (Belichick) consider an elite gunner their 12th defensive man. That infringes on Aggie copyrights, so I hope he doesn't say it out loud.

Schooler is an awesome gunner. Limiting hidden yards is valuable. Additionally, a guy with a knack for kickoff coverage can save you a cheap touchdown a year. Anyone who has played there can tell you some guys have a crazy ability to sprint right past a blocker without giving up their lane and show up at the right spot under control to tackle the returner on the 15 instead of the 30. Schooler is one of those dudes.

That alone is worth a scholarship. Full stop. There are veterans with 10 year NFL careers who do nothing more than these tasks and NFL teams finds them valuable enough to outcomes to make the 53 man, while cutting a raw LB who looks like an underwear model and runs a 4.5 40. This happens every camp.

But wait, there's more!

Wide Receiver

Anything he brings as a WR is a value add. He is a competent pass catcher, fully capable of running a good route and moving the chains. Outside of the 1-2 talented dudes that you need to win one on one, a lot of being an effective complementary wide receiver in a real offense is running the right route and catching the ball.

The Oregon coaches also considered him one of the the best blockers in their WR corps.

Can anyone think of a reason why we'd want depth...during a pandemic?

Defensive Back

Schooler had 74 tackles and 4 picks as a starting freshman DB when Oregon had some depth issues at S. It was actually his primary position in high school. That's a pretty valuable tool to have in your back pocket.

Can anyone think of a reason why we'd want depth...during a pandemic?

Described as a true freshman as a one-time player. Go to 2:31. (Uh, catch your breath coach)

Versatility is at a premium right now.

Attitude

Dudes that will play gunner), get bumped from starting safety to become a role player wide receiver without complaining, love football, and generally do everything at 110% are guys you want around a program that has a few players that frankly struggle with attention span, commitment, maturity, and perseverance.

Schooler is a good example for others.

Free

He's free.

Are we good here?

No, just flakiness. The staff seems unsure of the room since they keep pursuing transfers, so I would guess during the season we'll see why.

A room full of WRs is generally a room full of flakes.  Ours certainly seems to qualify.  Really like this add!

Its too bad we won't get to see him on special teams against UTEP.

Plays all out and is a big receiver.  Bonus is both he and Black seem like they want to fight after the reception.  Is that a stat yet?  FAR: Fight After Reception.

Fight After Reception Toughly

Both play through contact and want it. Harbaugh was such a good coach he had a 5* wr go in the 5th-6th rd this past draft because he rarely passed the ball.

He flies once the ball gets into his hands.  Props to Herman and their support staff.
