Power has been out for about 45 minutes.

How does a few inches of snow knock the power out?

Shits heavy with a lot of moisture content. Tree limbs and power lines can only handle so much

I’d guess either jackasses driving into power poles, or tree limbs weighted down messing up the lines.

Even with this small amount of snow, the branches on my oak trees are drooping considerably.

Brownwood is a good ways north and west of here, no?  Seems like they'd see snow somewhat often.

Every few years when it snows here folks always act like it's a once in a lifetime event or something.

Though I will say this snow event is one of the more substantial ones I remember.

Yeah, going on 5 hours of snow, here. Forecast looks like it turns to rain in about an hour or so, but who knows?

Forecast earlier today had us 3-4 degrees warmer by now, so I'm curious if it turns to rain.

2 hours NE of Houston. Would love to be there. All we are getting is shitty rain.

Still snowing here, but it's lightened up enough that it is no longer keeping up with the melt.

Hello neighbor. I'm in this photo/outage with you.

3.5" in the middle of our backyard so far.  the snow started sticking to the roads a few hours ago but has since started to melt.  our thermometer shows 33F at the moment.  it was at 32F for a couple hours so it seems like it's starting to warm up.

I don't remember last time Austin got snow like this. Ice storm in 2007ish?

Yep, starting to come off the roof.  I think it's peaked.

Definitely feels warmer outside and I hear gutters running around my neighborhood.  Killeen ISD canceled classes tomorrow so am curious what A/RR ISDs do.

PfISD has announced a late start already

I think we will be in school - well I don't know about RR, but most of Austin is not freezing and won't hit freezing tonight, so ice is not much of a problem outside of overpasses/bridges, and I'm sure the city is checking those.

AISD will cancel....at 4:30am

Ton of trees down all over 78746. Was fun taking the Jeep around westlake / redbud. Several stuck sedans earlier. Rapidly melting now.

I'm amazed (but shouldn't be) at how many neighbors needed to run errands, go places, etc during the snow.  It's a constant stream of cars the last few hours.

Really wet snow with tree limbs = power outages

Don’t understand why so many people want them to cancel classes.  Snow will be mostly gone tomorrow by lunch, last week was a short one + we just had 2.5 weeks with them at home.  Facebook comments are full of ‘cancel classes’ Karens.

As I turned to make my way back home, the snow turned into rain.

Snow/precip over. Temps will be freezing now or next hour or so tonight through 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, be careful driving.

It'll take a while to clear up if it does completely at all, and the high tomorrow will be about 45, so the snow won't melt real quick, but most should be gone by late afternoon. Temp will get above freezing between 7-8 a.m.

dude, why do all the apps say it's like 37-39 all night?

I dunno.  Because they suck?  Here's something right now:

Temps are definitely gonna get < freezing for 90% of ATX (except maybe extreme SW TravCo) at least a few hours overnight.  Period.

Austin ISD hasn't said anything yet, not even a "We're monitoring the situation". Are they gung-ho on having school tomorrow since they started the school year a couple of weeks late?

Conroe ISD just canceled classes for tomorrow and we barely got any snow at all. I think it is out of an abundance of caution for not knowing how the roads will be in the morning.

Been a great day.  Got up and started a fire.  Made some homemade biscuits & gravy for breakfast.  Got the daughter outside in the snow for a minute and took her on her first sledding run.   Made some chili and re-started the fire.  Just downright awesome.

4.4 at the airport.  That's about what I got too.  6 inches in 82

Parts of Woodway got over 6.  Just kind of depended where you were and how early if switched from rain to snow.

And Austin ISD is going 100% virtual tomorrow.
Yep. Someone made a stupid call. Letter says if students don't have their devices, contact the principal to make arrangements. The point is to keep everyone off the roads. Plus, those buses will have to be out there running for some students WiFi.

This was the biggest snow storm I’ve seen in Austin since I sledded down the 18th fairway on the Yaupon course in Lakeway back in January of 1985.
