This is something that should piss off the military loving, always stand for the anthem patriot types. But it won’t. Trump is finally verbalizing what they’ve always thought. The military is a last resort for poor people and losers and minorities who can’t go to college or get a real job.

The top military brass picked the right time to drop a bomb on his ass. Right before mail in and early voting starts. He "knows more than the generals" indeed. 😉

Which is why we should have a draft and/or mandatory civil service for every American.

There are nearly 20 million US veterans alive today.  That's like . . . New York.  Whether those who didn't serve actually don't support the troops is important, but the troops themselves would seemingly be a large enough voting bloc that one would want to avoid pissing them off.

While you make good points, putin and the red army and trump have not yet admitted it so Anastasis will argue we should wait for those things to happen first.

This right here is the fucking problem with this country.  Think about how many millions of people only watch Fox News.  Right now they all believe that this is a hoax that was started by the Biden campaign and none of it is true.  It's just the Democrats making fake stuff up about Trump because he is dominating in the polls right now and is guaranteed to be re-elected, that is unless the Democrats rig the election with China and Russia and steal it from Trump.  That's the narrative they are pushing out there any by the time Labor Day is over you will have 40 million Americans that believe this and will become snowflakes about how the Democrats play dirty when it comes to politics unlike the nice Republicans who are honorable, ethical and trustworthy.  If I could do my job from Canada I think I would be on my way to Vancouver as we speak.  Maybe a winter home in Costa Rica since I hate the cold weather.

Fox News flipped on the Friday before Labor Day so they could attempt to keep the Senate.

There is a certain amount of patriotism fatigue that set in.  I don't remember all of the particulars, but only 3-5 years ago, there was a hub bub with Jerry Jones charging  some extra $ at a Cowboys game for some "troop appreciation"  ceremony.  By that time we had already been at war for 10+ years with no end in sight.

Perhaps I am a little bit skeptical, being that I played in high school and college bands during the Reagan and Bush I years and during that time of the waning cold we we kind of had to manufacture some battle weary troops, and we did. Now there is no shortage. Not to mention we still have holdover first responder fatigue from 9/11.  I had a cousin of mine who was female firefighter that died in a McDonald's fire in Houston back in 2000.  She has all but been forgotten.

I guess the Pixar film "The Incredible's" said it best : "when everyone is special, no one is special."

I am not even really sure what I am trying to say except that when you are at war all of the time on one front or the other, you kind of lose your bearing.

I am not a rah rah flag waiving kind of guy, but I respect military sacrifice.  In fact here is a story:

CSB:  I had an uncle that died a few years  ago that was an old Navy guy.  He was in his 80s, lived a good life and raised a great family.  His wife (my aunt)asked me to play TAPS at his internment, which I did, but it was not easy.  I had been out of practice for a few years as I had switched instruments to classical guitar from trumpet.  I had been given enough notice to get my chops in shape.  I was kind of pissed about it because my oldest son is a pro trumpet player, but he was not going to be able to make it.  On top of that  there were expectations.  Even though I was never a professional trumpet player, I had played for many family weddings free of charge.  So I practiced every day for weeks.

So finally the day came and I get to the cemetery and am immediately escorted over to the color guard where I have to hang out and get the schedule.  The color guard were a bunch of old  dudes who do this stuff all  of the time, but I could tell this was pretty much old hat and no big deal for them.  Pretty much paint by the numbers for them.

It was a Catholic ceremony and when the time came I did my deal and tried to give a really meaningful rendition of TAPS.  This was my uncle after all and I really liked the guy and I had put in a bunch of hard work to do this.

As I played, I could feel the gravity of the event.  The fact that it was me playing it, and not some hired gun, did make a difference.  It was all I could do to not get choked up while playing.  Once that was done there were a few more words and the ceremony was over.

Once we were done, the whole family was scheduled to go down to Port A for a family reunion, so I was expecting a few light comments and a few lets get the fuck out of here to go drink beer on the beach type of thing.  What happened was something completely different.  I was greeted by person after person with red eyes and snot running sown their noses to thank me for paying an adequate tribute to a good family man that never saw combat.  Even the salty color guard guys came up to me afterwards with tears in their eyes with compliments.

The point is not that I gave a stirring rendition of TAPS.  The point is that our vets mean something to this country and that they deserve better than some jack off ceremony at Cowboys stadium or some paint by the numbers color guard bullshit....and they certainly deserve better than the Commander in Chief minimizing their contributions.

Upon reading, I know this it almost sounds like one of Trump's BS stories or an aggy visiting team story, but it is not.  It was real and spectacular in unexpected ways and I am glad to have been a part of it as it lessened  my doubt in humanity.    Fuck Trump and God bless the USA and our military personnel and Fuck you Surly Horns if you think this is just BS.  Out.

Well duh. You knock out 55 Democrat electoral votes, that's a no-brainer. Not to mention that if you concentrate the nukes on the coastal cities, and still convince the survivors in the interior to vote (hey, 10 years before the next post-nuking census), that's a solid extra 55 Republican Electors.

I mean, it's as obvious as supersizing fries.

Has Trump stopped the wars? I mean actually stopped them, not just threatened to move troops from one spot to another.

So why do you think this tired misdirection is relevant on this thread? Everyone knows the IC uses media and other tools to influence public opinion. It's not that nobody gives a shit, it's just that nobody gives a shit when the topic at hand is the President calling injured veterans losers.

You sad about the dust on your sign too?  I didn't figure you for as much.

The wars don't stop. They won't stop. All the while, like cats chasing a laser pointer around the room, you want to talk about nothing more than words. Trump is a piece of shit. A narcissist incapable of showing empathy for anything or anyone.  This is really not a new topic for discussion. But god forbid anyone try to talk about anything else here.

And while you chase me around the thread, you haven't actually engaged on the only really substantive post I made here.

But keep doing you Huck. Because that's really all that most people really care about when it boils down to doing what is right by the our military service members.  Scoring their little expeditious political points.

5 hours ago, Anastasis said:

Trump is a piece of shit. But if we want to talk about really caring for the men and women who serve our country, a few things that we should do:

1. Invest in making the VA one of the best health care systems in the world, in particular by focusing on the mental health care needs of our soldiers returning home.

2. Scale down our international military deployment substantially, ending our decades old engagement in Afghanistan in particular.

3. As we scale down our military forces, both in terms of head count and financial investment, retrain our soldiers as necessary to enter the world with marketable trades and skill set. Consider redeploying these resources to address domestic needs such as infrastructure.
