Also, Texas played Collins limited snaps, and he mainly dropped into coverage. Texas showed absolutely nothing on Saturday and pitched a shutout due to being better. CSU was last shutout in 2013.

This is the problem.  Both DTs got washed out on quite a few plays.  Lole, Saveea, and Broughton were the worst offenders.  This was against an air raid team.  Michigan will run for 200+ yards if we roll the same performance out there and we will get minimal possession of the ball.   I want to see Collins and Norton at DT on a majority of snaps.  At DE, Burke and Sorrell.

I doubt we role out the dime against Michigan like we did against an Air Raid team.  We shut down their passing game by devoting extra DBs.  That makes it easier to run.

I definitely expect a different front 7 saturday.

According to OTF, Texas ran some Bear fronts against CSU, and I bet they run a lot more against Michigan. I would make Michigan prove they can over the top before moving away from Cover 1.

was expecting more (or maybe moore?) from him also.  did not see him on the field much.   as much talk as there was on putting focus on this area, no sacks and 2 hurries.  hopefully we start building a little steam on saturday.

There were very limited opportunities to generate pass rush against CSU. They were either running or throwing immediately. I think we'll see plenty of pressure and sacks this year when facing opponents that actually have their QB sit back and make reads.

DL answered the bell. Outstanding game. The entire unit is nails. Portal additions played well. Young guns on the edge have arrived.

DL made me nervous coming into this year but the D looks salty across the board so far.

This Texas defense has a lot more room to improve this season -- kinda scary how good they could be late in the year.  🤘

All the more impressive when you realize:

1) UT played #10 Michigan

2) Miami played FCS Florida A&M

3) Clemson played Aggie nemesis App State

4) UF played FCS Samford

5) A&M played FCS Mcneese state

I am 100% in agreement with your point, but FYI - App State is not FCS. They're one of the better G5 teams every year.

App State hasn't been FCS for for like 10 years lol.

Manly play by Moore. Guy is just a beast. I eagerly await his intro to young Mr. Arnold.

Our defensive line is doing so so much better this season getting their hands up in passing lanes.

More D-line positive

They literally only had one bad play Alfred Collins lost gap discipline got twisted around and they took it to the house, but aside from that it was a good day stopping the run.

Bledsoe and Mitchell spent a lot of time on the ground though but that is 4 deep at this point.

On OTF video this week, the coaches discussed concerns with Texas run defense.  Both Jawja and Kentucky run games are extremely physical and likely will challenge the Horns defense...

I disagree on two fronts during the game they never got yards when they really needed it, 3rd and short they got stuffed, 4th and short they got stuffed. And also if you regress to the mean you need to take out the singular busted play that was 50+ yards.

I agree with the coaches.

Texas has to continue improving their run defense.  One of the best ways to slow down the Horns high powered offense is keep them off the field with long time consuming drives.

And Jawja and Kentucky run the ball pretty dang well...

It’s very disappointing how weak and sloppy Mitchell looked in his limited reps against tired opponents.

If they are so good maybe they should play defense because the Texas offense is > than theirs.

Yes, but UGA rushed for 102 on 30 attempts against UK. UGA had 12 first downs in the game. Of course it is only one game, and we need to improve, but some might say that Georgia needs to work on its keep-away game if it wants to look good in Austin.

Bobby Burton tonight...

During the 3rd qtr Sydir Mitchell was escorted back to the Texas locker room after not being injured, and did not return to the sidelines during the ULM game.

Maybe he wanted to kill the fuckhead back judge, who threw the bullshit targeting flag and didn't throw a flag for Wingo getting molested on a deep ball, and had to be restrained from other players.

There has been a lot of chatter about how our DL, and specifically Trey Moore, do not have enough sacks and have generally been underwhelming in the pass rush.  I don’t think people realize just how few true sack opportunities there have been so far this season.  Opposing offenses, because of a combination of lack of passing ability and the sound defensive play of our back 7, are avoiding lengthy drop backs and instead scheming up quick passes or rollouts that do not give our line traditional sack opportunities.

Looking at Trey Moore’s snaps in the ULM game as an example, there was arguably just one play where he could have been in position to make a sack or a pressure (2:00 left in second quarter).  On all other passing plays: he was double teamed (1 time on the A. Hill sack), the pocket rolled or QB scrambled away from his side (3), the pass was out in <1 sec (3), or he was in coverage responsibility and not rushing (2 times).  Everything else was a run play.

I don’t think we can truly gauge our pass rush ability until probably the OU game.  That said, Simmons and Vasek do look far more dynamic in the pass rush than Moore in a limited sample size.

I guess in the sense that if we don't utterly dominate that offensive line then we can conclude our pass rush is an issue. Honestly, Georgia may be the first real chance we have to see how good our pass rush actually is.

I've been quite impressed with Broughton and not so impressed with Collins. At least in the pass rush.  IDK if he is being asked to not get up field and maintain gap integrity but when rewatching the ULM game he mostly just hand fought with the OL on passing downs, not getting any meaningful penetration.  Was frankly odd.

And that number. Represent big fella! Dude is ripped up for an 18 year old.

Big props to Big Vern . Huge play after potential game changing turnover. Big time play.

Anybody have those charts showing snap count of the team?

I want to see who all was rotating in on DL for this one

Can someone with more DL experience than me explain why Ethan Burke isn't getting more snaps?

I notice when he's out there.  He makes plays.  Lead the team in sacks and 2nd in TFL's last year.

I know it's been touched on above, that teams are getting the ball out quicker etc. but still....what gives?

Can't find number of snaps played by each Edge, but on OTF it was mentioned that Justice Finkley has been losing some snaps.

Vasek and Burke have both been improving...
