I searched around and was pretty stunned to see no Reggae Thread so I figured I might as well start one.  I'm currently listening to my Reggae mix on my phone.  Post your favorites. This is what is on at the moment.

They were always a lot of fun at Mercado Caribe back in the day.

Is ska/blue-eyed reggae fair game?

Sure.  I used to see the Killer Bees at Oyster Bake every year.  I also may or may not have smoked a joint with them on stage at Irie's on Fredricksburg Road back in the day.

Old school Liberty Lunch fans remember. The white guy in the band with the blonde dreads lived across the street from me when they were big. I’m still high.

I'm a pretty basic bitch when it comes to reggae.  Tough to beat this one.

Anyone listen to Jamaican Gold on 91.7 KOOP? It's been on every Sunday from noon to 2 pm for 20-ish years. The show is an Austin treasure, imo.

For a long time I didn't know that this song was about barometric pressure.

I always assumed it was some sort of metaphor for being under stress.

Yeah, it probably is. But a sudden drop in a rudimentary barometer was about a 30 minute 'Oh Shit' warning to poor islanders before the intertrons.

No doubt.  Barometric pressure is an awfully important thing in that part of the world.

I hadn't heard this one in years and it came up on youtube the other day.  What a great song!

Some of this might be Ska or Dancehall.

In 2010, I drove to Austin from Dallas to see Stick Figure at an outdoor bar venue; there were probably 20 people at the show.  I got a very low quality recording of him doing a cover of pink floyd’s wish you were here.

Saw him at the factory in dallas last may. 1000+ people there.

Saw Stick last weekend in St Pete with Pepper and the Elovators. Always a great show, will be seeing them at Closer to the Sun in Mexico in December as well.

I got really into reggae for a bit when I got to UT.  I didn't get dreads or bathe in patchouli or anything, but I did like the music.  I'd recommend this compilation as a great jumping off point for the arc of history (and good listening).

It's pretty much straight fire.
