September 18, 20205 yr Susanna Hoffs is a big fave around here, and not entirely for her looks. An acquaintance of mine spent roughly a year writing and recording with her ~ 1999, and apparently what was a shelved project is now going to see the light of day. I will update with order info when I get it. Word is that it's more "artist" than "pop", and I'm very interested to hear what they did. Lots of big players are involved. In the meantime:

I'll put it in the guilty pleasure category along with their take on Hazy Shade of Winter and In Your Room while I'm at it. Watched one of their shows from the 80s on youtube a while back, and it didn't suck. Also, I saw her solo when she opened for somebody back in the early 90s. It didn't suck.

September 23, 20205 yr Author Did that live clip of "Walk Like An Egyptian" actually include a single live note from any instrument or voice?

Definite drum track, and the guitar leads were iffy. The rest of that show is not tracked and has some tasty bits. It was the 80s, or something. And with that said, I'm going to watch Talking Heads Live in Rome for some real 80s music. Edited September 23, 20205 yr by dcbc

There was nobody sitting at the drum kit and the tambourine started about a measure before she started waving it around. Quote and the guitar leads were iffy. You are too kind. She wasn't even trying to look like she was playing those leads. I say this as a fan of Susanna Hoffs (I mean, I started the thread) and a moderate Bangles fan.

The amount of sarcasm present in my brain when I typed that didn't transfer well with the post. The leads weren't even close. When they all were waving their hands over their heads while I heard guitar sounds was a bit of a tell.

September 25, 20205 yr I’m trying to wrap my head around why I like that slowed down Chipmunks music. It sounds like Bauhaus or something.

"Refugee" is awesome. Marti Jones (Don Dixon's brilliantly talented wife) recorded the demo of Egyptian that was taken to the Bangles. I'd love to hear that. She ended recording/releasing another Liam Sternberg song, "The Crusher".

I remember that show. That was at the Syria Mosque which was on Pitt's campus. I did not go as I was a serious student 🤣and that show was on a weeknight, and I didn't want to. That building is no longer there. It is a parking lot. One night, after a Pitt hoops game we were walking down the hill from the game to go have a beer and noticed a lot of police cars across the street from the Syria Mosque. On closer inspection there were a ton of people, and lights and cameras and police cars that did not look like they were from around Pittsburgh, because they were not. A scene from The Silence of the Lambs was being filmed there, directly across the street. The scene where Hopkins is held in the cage was filmed inside Soldiers and Sailors Memorial. https://www.soldiersandsailorshall.org Some very big acts played there. From Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Band, ELO, SRV and many, many, more. Edited September 28, 20205 yr by PittsburghTiger
