can't wait for this defense show out this week especially the back 7. everybody doubting them and the competition played.  they dominated and did what your suppose to do to the offenses they played. I think mukuba has a game and will be a difference maker Saturday. McDonald I think is gonna be good this game also. safety play is the key to me against their offense. balance of run support and corner help will be key.

A bit curious as to why Mukuba got on the Lott list over Taaffe.

Mukuba is better. Am I wrong?? And I have no problem with taaffe so not hating.

Better at what exactly?

Mukuba was MIA versus OU.  Didn’t play versus Vandy.

Taaffe is a pretty impactful player.

Now. You’re glad to have him now. I think everyone was sick of seeing him earlier in his career.

I’m not a real big hater for anyone on the team. I’m a fanatical that’ll root for the whole team whether they meet my impossible standard of what Texas football should look like. But they are human not robots including coaches, so the good games and bad games are just that to me. The tackle missed one week will be a hit stick the next and so we go. But to specify what you said I do think we are better with mukuba and Williams at safety. The safety room is great tho.

The safety room is the best in recent memory. I can't even think of a better one overall without going back to 04-05, but if someone can let me know, possibly 08?

I just wanna know if it's because of Blake or in spite of him? I know most wanted him gone after the defensive backfield performance in Sark's first 3 seasons. I'm leaning towards personnel deficiencies, but not sure.

That was overblown based on uninformed, biased opinions and unrealistic expectations.

Last year, we played a high value slate of QBs that had a great deal of experience.  And some very solid Olinemen.  Solid skill position guys.  This year, it’s hammered dogshit.  I mean Dillon Gabriel whipped our ass, right?  He had 7 games with more passing yards, and it was his lowest QBR or rating or so on the season.  The pass rush was largely ineffective.  Team game.

For 3 years now, we’re top 10 in DFEI with improvement each year.  You can’t get there with a unit that doesn’t contribute.

Each year the player fit, the cohesion and the consistency should improve.  That’s where we are now.  We also have a front that makes those QBs uncomfortable.  All 3 picks were effectively caused by those guys upfront to this past weekend.

Was Diggs S in 2013?  Thompson was solid.

Phillips was pretty heavily criticized.

2017 had Brandon Jones and D. Elliott.  That’s probably the duo right there.

My guy @EricCHenry_ asked the players about Jelani McDonald after he stepped up in Andrew Mukuba's absenceJust listen to a minute of David Gbenda and Michael Taaffe praising the young DB"He's just a monster, y'all gon see it. I'm telling y'all now, y'all are going to see…
Jelani McDonald is looking good out there

Speaking of Gbenda, it seems like he’s playing less and less snaps as the season progresses. I’m not understanding that?

I’d probably give him a little more credit than most, but there’s a lotta dudes out there that were unfortunate as to their timing in life and when it was their time to be a Horn.

Coaching matters.  A lot.

As a player, I’m not sure there’s ever been a better time to be a Horn than now.  They just need a championship to make that a no doubter.

08-09?
Maybe so, but I'm seeing far more passes actually defended this year than in recent memory, not just highlight reel hits after the catch. (But we've had a couple of those as well)

Here is what #Texas freshman CB Kobe Black was able to do in just nine snaps vs. Vanderbilt on Saturday.

#784
Anthony Hill Jr. has been an absolute menace through 8 games for Texas:• 58 Tackles • 28 Solo Tackles• 5.5 Sacks• 10 TFL's• INT• FFThe Sophomore already has more Sacks and TFL's than he did the entire 2023 season | #0 has his sights set on becoming an All-American

#786
Wow...that impossible touchdown pass is even more impossible than you probably thought.First the ball is tipped by Lefau and because of that the ball changes direction, falling just under McDonald's hands into the receiversJelani might intercept this without a tipped pass

#787
Correct me if I'm wrong, but McDonald is the one that did the "you're my bitch" suplex on the Vandy receiver right before he stepped out of bounds?

That was badass and dominant, but also would have been a flag back in the Rig12.

He was pretty impressive. If we can patchwork an interior DL together again next year the defense should be nasty. Simmons/Burke on the edges, Hill/Lefau at LB, Muhammad/Black at CB and Williams (if healthy)/McDonald at safety would be about as much talent as we've ever seen.

A game of inches. 4th down, we hold there and it's still 24-10, and the defense does their best work of the day, holding Vandy scoreless on a 38-yard field gifted to them by the Texas O. Vandy really benefitted from some stupid luck, timely penalties and incredibly stupid personal fouls on our end to keep it within 14.

Much deserved. Barron has been a rock. Meanwhile, Catalon remains one of the more vexing DBs to ever walk out of the tunnel in burnt orange.
