November 8, 20232 yr I know that last year, two offensive holding calls made on Texas opponents were compensated for by calling personal fouls on Texas on later plays, to keep drives going. The same happened in the KSU game, except that the Texas pf was called on the same play as KSU’s holding call. Have there been any opponent holding calls this year, not undone by a personal foul? We really should be miking the officials’ locker and the review booth. Edited November 8, 20232 yr by statsman

Anyone debating that it was a clean play is simply not anyone to take seriously. Absolutely. The DB made a good decision- do whatever it takes to keep him from catching it, and live with the penalty to fight on the next down. And then there was no penalty. I bet the DB was as surprised as anyone.

November 8, 20232 yr Popular Post If I was a litigator and had my own firm, I think i might send some kind of notice to the Big 12 office on behalf of a potential class of sports betters asking to preserve all correspondence between conference administrators and officials just to fuck with them with the clear implication that you suspect fraud. I saw this play as obvious pi on osu. Using this as an example, if Stoops catches the ball while he's in the air, no interference and looks like he'll land good for the TD....the college defender can push his ass 3 yards out of bounds once catch is made with no penalty. In the NFL the official will mark the play at the assuming location the receiver would have landed. This was the rule back in the day and I think it still is today, but too lazy to look up.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like that at any level of sport. It was clearly personal. But, as for this season, I'm pretty sure it was Mar or one of his minions that was caught on film in the Wyoming game screaming at Ewers for celebrating a TD that was about a 3/10 on the level of what is considered permissible for TD celebrations in the current era. It was bizarre. And no doubt setting up the possibility to call anything other than quietly handing the ball to the official on the next TD with the explanation that "I warned you". That crew is just pure garbage. That game was an all-timer. It also had the ridiculous defensive holding call against one of our DL which is still one of the most absurd flags I have seen.
November 8, 20232 yr Popular Post You know it's bad when Bohl's writes this: https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/columns/2023/11/08/texas-football-longhorns-referee-officiating-calls-big-12/71490918007/?utm_source=SND&utm_medium=Twitter&utm_campaign=bevobeat Quote Texas isn't getting the benefit of any calls 1. Parting Big 12 gifts: This isn’t to suggest a conspiracy that the Big 12 has it in for Texas, but it is highly curious how the Longhorns have rarely gotten the benefit of officiating in their final year in the league. Would sure appear to be the case because the Longhorns can’t seem to buy a holding or pass interference call against their opponents. In eight games, discounting the win at Alabama officiated by SEC refs, opponents have been flagged for only four holding calls (just two were accepted, and one of them was negated by a Texas late hit) and one pass interference penalty by Big 12 refs. ONE. Coincidence? That’s a tough one, given Texas’ pending exit for the SEC and its, uh, popularity in the Big 12. When I asked Steve Sarkisian about the disparity Monday, the Texas head coach said T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy II are “the two most dominant interior defensive linemen in the country, and I’m not sure they’ve had a holding penalty called against either of them (by opposing offensive linemen, though one favored Murphy last week).” He cited similar disparity with wide receivers Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, one of the best tandems in college football. (Mitchell has had just one drop all year, and Worthy only four.) The only time an opponent was whistled for pass interference came in the Baylor game on a Worthy play. Worthy looked to be held twice blatantly, once in the end zone, against Kansas State but there was no call. (Oklahoma feels Texas’ pain. Yes, it was clearly pass interference. Sorry, Drake Stoops.) … “We don’t have time to complain about (potential penalties), but that’s the way it goes,” said Sarkisian. He sends in disputed plays to the league office and said, “Sometimes they come back, and they do agree with me. I don’t want to complain just to complain. But there are tools in that so we can learn how to effectively not get hold or get pass interference called.” … It was strange that the officiating crew wasn’t going to award Texas possession on Jaylan Ford’s fumble recovery on the Kansas State 5 until a UT timeout gave the refs time to review and overturn the call.
