Nor incriminate himself because the Feds are coming.

This is the answer.
Making it sound like he’s defiant, when the reality is he’s trying to keep from getting buttfucked in prison. He’s a crook and a coward.

Here's a hint - if you vote for someone, you support them.  Whether it's Paxton, Abbott, Trump, Cruz, your vote says you support their actions.

She takes over for John Scott while Ken Paxton is suspended during his impeachment proceedings #txlegehttps://t.co/U8sVpRaXvI

I’m taking this as tacit recognition from Abbott that the trial will move ahead in the senate and will most likely end in removal of paxton from office.

NEW: TX AG Ken Paxton’s ties to a company that secured a lucrative state contract are being investigated for evidence of corruption. The firm’s CEO denies wrongdoing, but issue shows the impeachment probe is widening as Paxton’s trial looms. https://t.co/JHUzD8Va63 #txlege

Wow this Paxton story brings back some memories. I got a tip about Watchguard Video when I was working at the @AP in 2008. The tipster said the company was bragging on its website about investors who were state legislators and so maybe I should check that out. So I did ... 1/ https://t.co/DmUJ2MVYgs

This motherfucker's grift may actually be larger than my cynical mind even imagined.

WatchGuard has been bought by Motorola since then.  I haven't seen that mentioned in any of the stories.  I don't doubt he made a pretty penny because just about every law enforcement agency in Texas uses WatchGuard for car cameras and body cams which are not cheap.

Dan Patrick has been taking campaign contributions in Texas since Sep 2005.In a state with no limits, where the $1m check is real, he's never gotten one. Until the Attorney General was on trial in Patrick's Senate. Now, he gets $1m plus a $2m loan! Both from Defend Texas Liberty— Christopher Tackett (cjtackett on 🦋 &🧵) (@cjtackett)

OK, so they've bought the judge and they're going to stack the jury and hold a sham trial that acquits him.

Can someone explain to what they're going to do when the FBI follows up with an indictment?  I mean, besides blame Biden's weaponized DOJ.

Bold strategy, Cotton.  You were sold out by your former Assistant D.A.'s, your own party's state leadership, Nate Paul, Governor Abbott, and a half dozen noteworthy Mexican "Family Offices" in the real estate investment ecosystem.  And this has all been going on for about 8 years.  But it's somehow Joe Biden's fault?

That claim ain't gonna hold much water when your other eye finally pops too when you're when you're swinging from a bridge in Juarez.  You got one card here to play Ken, we both know it.  Don't you think it's about time you admitted to yourself what's going to happen.  It's no longer about you, it's who you're taking with you on the way out.

BREAKING: Texas AG Ken Paxton will appear as a defendant in a Houston felony courtroom Thursday in an 8-year-old securities fraud case against him, his lawyer and other sources confirm to me and @AutulloAAS. Paxton has avoided a courtroom as the case faced multiple delays.

Don't you work in the sex/healthcare space?  You of all people should know, if you experience pending indickments lasting longer than 8 years, please consult your physician.

You'd be surprised what legal tricks you can pull and what promises you make and favors you can exchange to keep yourself in office under the watchful eye of Texas state security which makes you too high profile to be killed.  18 months after his detail is off once he leaves offices, his fate is far worse than anything a U.S. jail can offer.

Securities fraud at the state level? Or did I miss the feds charging him?

SEC brought a civil action long ago.  It was dismissed for failure to state a claim.  https://www.courthousenews.com/sec-case-againstken-paxton-dismissed/

Federal criminal charges, which are referred by the SEC, but not actually prosecuted by them, were apparently never on the table.

Well the basic answer is that it was moved out of Collin County for bias reasons and special prosecutors appointed, again for bias reasons. Then Collin County refused to pay the special counsel bills. Then Paxton tried to move it back to Collin County.

Then you add in the more conventional challenge to the indictment and taking that to the court of criminal appeals.
