Is there a thread to talk about how much Bon Jovi sucks?

Featured Replies

Bon Jovi sucked. Hard.

There is no "don't lie, you liked..."noididn't.  I remember the suckage as it was happening and time hasn't helped. At. All. Got nothing against Jon Bon or anyone making a business decision in the entertainment industry, but everything about that band was cringe-worthy and needed to die for the sake of western civilization.

Perhaps you need to watch this video and then come back with another response.

You know, as bad as Jon Bon Jovi is, Richie Sambora is twice that bad.

Oh come on dude.  That guy got pussy that other men only dream about.   I'd sell my soul to Satan to be Richie for a single hour.

OK, there is no way a legit musician can be named "Kip".

I mean:

Gatemouth

Ludwig

Beverly

Miles

Jimi

Itzhak

Wolfgang

Dre

Kip?

I dunno... have you heard his classical works?

I mean... they're really, really good.

Napoleon is saying that video is what you need.

I watched the "Lay Your Hands On Me" video after this one and was tempted to post it.

It's much more cheesy than "Bad Medicine", but I felt like enough was enough for one day.

Woke up to this on the stereo. Bon Jovi sucks, Night Ranger might suck more.

Of course Night Ranger sucks more!

I had nearly my entire digital life stolen out of a rental vehicle in a smash & grab in Oakland which included my all but my first year in Buenos Aires (out of 7 1/2), so when I was in Argentina 2 months after being robbed, I went out and about and took photos of everything. I came across this photo across the street from the massive mosque & muslim cultural center in Palermo.

A poster hyping everyone's favorite band playing at Estadio Velez Sarsfeld, where I saw an Ireland vs Argentina rugby match (their B-teams) in April of 2007 and The Killers in ~October of 2007. You play South America and they will love you forever.

Brad Gillis, imo.

Saw Night Ranger at Astroworld in the 80s, as far as sounding just like the recordings those fuckers were spot on, I mean spot fucking on. They put on a good show.

Journey and REO started out as real rock bands.  Bon jovi was a chick band from day1.

just meant there was a hell of a lot of pussy at a rock concert.

Night Ranger did pre-production for one of their later albums at the Austin Rehearsal Complex.  In a hallway conversation, one of those douchebags offered to sell me their mixing console they were using to track demos.  Never mind the fact that it was a generic Mackie board, they wanted more than list price for it, "because Night Ranger had used it".

Ok, I went back and re-listened to a bit more NR (Sister Christian, etc...), and you guys are right, they don't deserve to be in a Bon Jovi thread. I do apologize.

Jeff Watson was gnarly with his 8 finger tap thing

And Brad Gillis was hilarious when he played on the speak of the devil album of Black Sabbath covers with Ozzy.

I guess she was livin on a prayer up there and Jon was the answer to that prayer.

he was shooting a music video on the bridge. she wanted to jump because she heard the song.

It is weird though right?.

Wouldn't the bridge be shut down to vehicles and bystanders?

Was she part of the production crew?

An extra and they ran out of craft services?

It's a pedestrian bridge.

Okay. The point was I still they would shut it down for a music video, but I guess if they were setting up and weren't filming yet, it may have been open.

She was a runaway?

A buddy of mine is in a high level position in the liquor and wine biz and tons of celebs come to pitch their brand to him and his team. He said he really expected to hate Jon but said he was a good guy and down to earth.

Maybe she was working the night away

OK, put me down for "had no idea Jon Bon Jovi's son played football for Notre Dame".

Doesn't mean his music doesn't suck.

This.

I'm perfectly capable of separating the man from his music. From all accounts, he's an amazing human being, and we're all lucky he exists and I wish fame found more people like him BUT JUST NOT LIKE THAT MY GOD

You'll get no argument from me.

Low bar:  is there a single GOOD Bon Jovi song?  I'm struggling to think of it.

Hate on them if you must, but they nailed it for what was popular at the time. Cheesy af, but that’s what they were going for.

I said it up thread, but Wanted Dead or Alive works just fine for me.

Runaway is a nice little pop tune in my book.

Flame away.

May or may not have tried to leverage a couple of their sappier ones into a little back seat action when Pops would let me borrow the Oldsmobile on a Friday night in high school

I'd buy that if he had stopped writing songs, but he's been doing it for 40 years or so, and they've always been cheesy af.

Well right. I’m just saying they worked until they didn’t.

Tell me you've never been to Nashville without telling me you've never been to Nashville.

Shit, Raise Your Hands is a great song. And Living on a Prayer is an anthem of the 80's whether it's as song of artistic import or not (it is not).

Slippery When Wet was the second cassette I ever bought after Fleetwood Mac Rumours.

It's been a long time.  Do they allow vehicles on the pedestrian bridges?

Anyway, Bon Jovi sucks ass as a songwriter and is clearly a quite decent human being.

Ha ha.  I was just scrolling the music board to get caught up, and I got all excited to respond to this thread title.  And then I realized the thread was started by... me.

So, let me just say this:

He's a fucking GREAT guy.  And he doesn't "suck ass", he's just not your favorite.  He's written some fine songs.

Dude washes dishes most nights, and he's a multi-millionaire.  Give the man some credit.
