November 29, 20232 yr Quote This is not the deficiency it appears to be on the surface (in terms of the bowl game) since if you’ve ever been to a A&M practice “analysts” did much of the on the field coaching themselves…and the Aggies will probably retain enough of those guys to handle workouts through the bowl game. Is this a confession to an NCAA violation?

November 30, 20232 yr Could be interesting if Manny _iaz gets the Duke job given Robinson played at PSU

November 30, 20232 yr It doesn't matter how much aggy pays Robinson. Eventually he's going to want to be a DC so he can climb that ladder.
November 30, 20232 yr Aggie 2025 Recruiting: Bursting at the seams What a pathetic representative for your university. Should've put BMI incentives in his contract.
November 30, 20232 yr I understand Elko is fat, I understand he’s busy, but everyone has 20 minutes to get a suit tailored.
November 30, 20232 yr Matt Zenitz at 247 said on their podcast that Elijah Robinson is going to be in the mix for the DC job at Syracuse. He's close with Fran Brown. "Brother like relationship with Fran Brown." aggy is going to have to let Robinson be the DC/call plays eventually.
November 30, 20232 yr Lots of rumors that Tony White is going to be hired as USC's DC. Rhule hired Robinson at Temple and Baylor. He will probably be in play there for the DC job too if White takes the USC gig. Edited November 30, 20232 yr by Rickylovesweed
November 30, 20232 yr If you’re Robinson, you were a greasy liucci permed cunt hair away from potentially being the next head coach. And now you’re not even gonna call the defense with Elko in charge? Why the fuck would you stick around for that when you probably will have multiple DC offers incoming from a desirable power 5 program or even a HC job at a lower tier program?

Eventually, he's going to have to climb the ladder but he's already being paid $1.1 million to just recruit/coach DL. aggy will probably throw $1.5 million at him. That's not a bad gig without many responsibilities. He's probably making more $ as a DL coach at aggy than DC at Nebraska.

The difference is that with Rhule, Robinson would actually have a chance to call a defense. If that's important to him - and he if he wants to eventually be a HC it should be - then a small step down in pay shouldn't be a big deal. We'll see.
November 30, 20232 yr aggy would never allow any orange. Elko: Mangino was a hell of a coach, as long as the media didn’t have to show him. Both he and Patterson would’ve worn out the towel boys on either staffs, but the final results would dictate CFB for decades.Hook’em!!!
November 30, 20232 yr Now imagine aggy….years from now, after the bright shining, blotting out the sun Elko era has passed….we look upon the list of “hottest coaches in America” and see the name “Elijah Robinson”. They had him and they let him slip away…. Then like clockwork, aggy resets the market again and money-whips Robinson to be their next Head Coach.
November 30, 20232 yr DL coach to DC isn't the common path. Usually it's the DB or even LB coach. Why is he even qualified to call a defense? His skillset is recruiting, no? Is he much beyond a bagman? Those guys up front haven't lived up to their rankings anyway and they had another DL coach as well in Terry Price. You give him a co-DC title under a head coach like Elko who does the play calling and eventually you can get a head job. There are similar position coaches known for their recruiting who have moved up without ever being real coordinators.
November 30, 20232 yr I don’t know what Robinson’s ambitions are, but the niche of a Rodney Garner or Bo Davis or Larry Johnson recruiter and developer of D-lineman pays very well these days, makes you in demand no matter what happens with your head coach, and comes with a lot less stress and pressure.

He's interviewed a few times for DC jobs but has been passed over. I think it's safe to assume he wants to be a DC and move up.

He's at Texas A and M University. Listen to Bjork. Listen to Texags. It's the best place in the world to coach, and you must earn your right to be there. Robinson is there because he loves it and feels blessed. The last two years have proven that A&M is not an 8-4 program. A&M is not an arrogant and self-important place like tu. Robinson isn't going anywhere.

Everyones favorite bagman Clint Hurtt made the transition from DL to DC - so it happens though definitely not as often. Nobody is moving him up there without some belief that he can coordinate as well as recruit. At this point there has been nothing other than rumr - but there definitely have been rumors that he was up for / interviewed for DC jobs
November 30, 20232 yr Here's an article (from 2013) examining where coaches were promoted from. https://winthropintelligence.com/2013/12/09/examining-football-coaching-staffs-position-coaches-promotions/ This pie chart is a bit confusing, since it's missing the other 86% of coaches that were not position coaches the year prior, but a few DE coaches were promoted to head coach. Money Quote Quote In the last ten seasons, no FBS, FCS, or D-II coaches who were strictly position coaches for Cornerbacks, Safeties, the Secondary, or the D-Line received 1st-time Head Coaching jobs
