GAME NOTES
THE MATCHUP—
Texas returns from Sugar Land for a three-game, non-conference series against New Orleans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

A LOOK AT THE PRIVATEERS—New Orleans is coming off a pair of midweek losses to South Alabama and Jackson State…offensively, the Privateers are led by Owen Magee (.341/.393/.500) and Beau Bratton (318/.384/.448) so far this season…Pearce Howard leads New Orleans with six homers while Cody Ducote has five homers and 28 RBI…on the hill, reliever John Barr has amassed a 4-2 record to go along with a 1.93 ERA in 42.0 innings over 18 appearances…he's struck out 41 compared to just 16 walks…starting LHP Bryan Warzek leads the staff with a 2-2 record and a 2.93 ERA…he's fanned 83 hittersin just 55.1 innings of work while holding opponents to a .206 batting average against on the year.

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas will take part in non-conference action this weekend following five straight weekends of Big 12 play…the Longhorns enter Friday night's game with two wins after defeating UTRGV on Tuesday night and Texas Southern on Wednesday…Kody Clemens continues to pace the Texas offense with a .369/.466/.711 line, 12 homers, and 44 RBI…on the mound, the Texas staff will look to return to form in the weekend rotation…out of the bullpen, Parker Joe Robinson (11 games, 2.20 ERA) and Andy McGuire (13 games, 2.45 ERA, 5 saves) have helped solidify the bullpen.

NEXT UP—Texas will host Houston on Tuesday before heading to West Virginia for a three-game Big 12 Conference series.

THE MCKENZIE FLOAT—Senior RHP/UTIL player Jake McKenzie played all nine positions in Tuesday night's seven-inning win over UTRGV…McKenzie started the game at catcher, the only position he had not previously played while at Texas, before moving through the infield and outfield…he got the final two outs of the ballgame on the mound…McKenzie was recognized on Sportscenter and on ESPN's "Get Up!" program in the "My Favorite Player of All-Time (Right This Second)" segment for accomplishing a feat that only five major league players have.

KODY SHOW CONTINUES—Kody Clemens has been on a tear offensively this season…on Tuesday night vs. UTRGV, the junior hit his 12th homer of the season, a grand slam, to help him to a career-high 6 RBI in the game…it was his second grand slam of the season…earlier this month, Perfect Game/Rawlings and D1Baseball.com each announced their Midseason All-America teams and 2B Kody Clemens was named to the first team on both…USA Baseball also announced Clemens as a member of its Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list…Clemens ranks in the top five in the conference in several offensive categories: home runs (T-1st, 12), SLG (2nd, .711), total bases (1st, 106), average (3rd, .369), hits (T-3rd, 55), RBI (3rd, 44), and OBP (5th, .466).

ZUUUBOMB—For the second straight week, redshirt-freshman Zach Zubia was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week…Zubia hit two huge home runs over the weekend at Oklahoma…Saturday's put the Horns ahead in the eighth inning, leading to the series win…with a walk on Wednesday night, he extended his reached base safely streak to 39 games.

VROOM VROOM—Sophomore SS David Hamilton stole his Big 12-leading 23rd base of the year on Wednesday night…he is Longhorns' first player with 20 stolen bases since Ben Johnson's 21 in 2014…the last Longhorn with at least 25 stolen bases was Golden Spikes Award finalist Drew Stubbs who stole 26 bags in 2006.

BACK IN THE POLLS—After the series win at then-No. 16 Oklahoma, Texas has shot back into the rankings…the Longhorns are ranked No. 21 by D1Baseball.com, No. 20 by Baseball America, and No. 24 by Perfect Game/Rawlings.

GO DJ, THAT'S MY DJ—After the first five attempted stolen bases against him were successful, DJ Petrinsky has caught 14-of-20 since, good for 56% caught stealing on the season.

CONFERENCE DEFENSE—The Texas defense has solidified since Big 12 Conference action began…the Longhorns are fielding at a .988 clip over 15 league games, with position players making just five of the team's seven errors…in 15 conference games, the Texas defense has also turned 17 double plays…the Horns' .978 fielding percentage across all games is good for tops among Big 12 teams.[.quote]

Yea I just got home still drunk watching highlights. What's it to you? If I haven't said so already, Keith and Greg (AND ONLY Keith and Greg) in the booth is so much better than Lowell involved i

We need a sweep this weekend.

Actually, we are better off with the games cancelling.  Looking at RPI impacts on Warren Nolan site, we actually lose RPI points win or lose in each of these games.

Any word on a potential double header today due to bad weather tomorrow?  Friend told me that was the case but I have not been able to find anywhere.

I expect us to struggle early tonight against a left hander. Seems to always be the case.

I can write more goundbreaking stuff is y'all need me to.

Leadoff Privateer grounds out. Next guy crushes a BP fastball off the wall for a triple

What the fucking fuck Kingham!!??   Finally get time to sit down and watch some Longhorn baseball and you bring that shit to the mound?

Edited by HuntinHorn

Kingham is completely fucked in the head right now. He never recovered from getting blasted by LSU.

Also he really needs a haircut.

UNO pitcher has 83 k's in 55 innings. We scored 3 in the first against this guy last year, and that was all we got.

DJ gave that a ride to the opposite field. Nice catch by RF.

Two hard- hit outs, two cheap hits. No runs in the second

Hamilton throws his hat in the ring for worst AB of the season

The good news is we’re getting base runners and pushing up his pitch count. The bad news is we’re 0-5 with RISP.

47 pitches for their ace. If dean really wants him to go 9, he'll stretch him. Keep getting guys on and good things will start to happen. And Nolan needs to keep them at 3.

Completely dominated by Privateer pitcher in the 4th

Beginning to think this guy is settling in, and he's a lefty, so we are going limp

1-1 curve floating in screaming hit me and jake admires it. Then goes after a fastball head high and outside.

Was hoping I’d be wrong this time

Their ace has settled down. We’ll be looking at taking 2/3 this weekend unless we get at least 2 this inning.

Hibbeler cones back from 0-2 and singles up the middle
