Yeah, I got a guy (residential repair/contracting)

Featured Replies

Here’s the idea: I live in RR and have had a great deal of contracting & specialist work/remodeling done on my original 1970’s home to get it up to snuff (my wife adores Joanna Gaines, just like every other Texas woman).  Along the way I’ve worked with some good local contractors that I fully endorse/recommend and others I won’t call again.  I’m going to post the below recommendations by field/specialty and encourage other Shagsters (don’t call me Shirley) to copy and paste, avoiding the dreaded reply/quote masking effect, with recommendations for their own area.

Yeah, there’s Yelp, Angie’s List, all of those sites that are a pita imo and I can never quite trust if its sponsored or not – this is a recommendation from a guy in RR based on my experiences (who’s been posting with you assholes since 2008).

Legend:

$ = too good to be true? / $$ = about what I expect to pay / $$$ = wtf are artisan prices?!?!?!

* = good enough quality to satisfy / ** = everyone is happy / *** = this guy is amazing/saved my ass

(anything below a single * ain’t getting posted as a recommendation – I’m still looking)

AREA: Round Rock/ N. Austin/ Cedar Park / Pflugerville

General Contractor: (still looking)

Handyman/Carpenter: (still looking, I do a lot of the small things myself)

Foundation: (not used – yet)

Plumbing: Asics Plumbing Services (Jon Betak) / (512) 228-8568 / $$ / *** / I got Jon’s number from a neighbor when my previous plumber attempted to gouge me after we broke ground, Jon showed up under 24 hours and saved the day at a reasonable price

Electrical: Pincham Energy Solutions (Ryan Pincham) / (512) 514-3629 / $ - $$ / ** - *** / Ryan is a fucking stud, he does damn solid work at a great price and is a veteran to boot, the only thing preventing me from full 3 stars is he is sometimes late (he will stay on a job until it’s done, running late on the next if necessary, which I’m ok with)

Flooring/Tile: (still looking – bad experience here)

Drywall (include sheetrock/mud/texture): (still looking – even worse experiences here)

Painter: (still looking)

HVAC: Fontaine A/C (Eric Fontaine) / (512) 250-5420 / $ - $$ / ** / Really good work, great price, no drama

Insulation: (still looking)

Water Conditioning: Tommy Dorsey Water Conditioning (Tommy Dorsey) / (512) 255-1960 / $ - $$ / ** / Another professional journeyman who does solid work at a great price

Roofing: Trident Roofing Co. (Tom Willi) / (512) 394-9994 / $$ / ** - *** / I’ve called on Trident three times in 20 years (different houses), the last time about 7 years ago – average prices with top quality work

Cabinetry/Countertops: Southwest Custom Interiors (Richard Ronk) / (512) 388-2975 / $ - $$ / *** / Another stud – top quality work at a VERY reasonable price by a thoroughly professional team

Doors/Windows: Anything around the house (K.B.) / (512) 577-9228 / $$ / ** / Average work at an average price – I will prolly call on them again for some of the larger handyman level stuff I need done (I had 2x French doors replace old sliding glass doors)

Landscaping/Irrigation: (still looking)

Fencing: B.C. Fence (Dusty Brents) / (512) 284-8716 / $$ / ** / Solid fence at market price, Dusty knows his business and works to make the process easy - excellent service

What are you looking at doing?  You can shoot me an email at phil@reihomerealty.com or a PM if need be.

Plumbing: Blue Dragon Plumbing (Gilbert Jimenez)/512-947-2491/$$/ Great guy, reasonable prices, and works fast. He will cover all of Austin and Georgetown. Used a few times and highly recommend.

If the former GDLover (now @Born to Run) would ever answer his damn tagged posts, he'd be your guy for that.  I've seen his kitchen work, good stuff.

I didn’t receive any notifications. I’m back from vacation. Feel free to PM me if anyone still needs to discuss projects or receive bids.

Used him too. Reasonable. He installed a couple of toilets and a sink.

I’ll back up Blue Dragon as well

Any one know an electrician that will install one outside plug?

B. C. Fence, Dusty Brents 512 284-8716 / $$ / ** / solid fence at market price, Dusty knows his business and works to make it easy - excellent service.

Anastasis: water conditioning is softeners, filters, ionizer and everything to condition water for potable use in your home.

I need an A/C guy in the Katy area. PM me if anyone has any recommendations.

What is water conditioning?

Water softeners. Tommy Dorsey did ours. Easy to deal with. Good prices. No sales push for contract type stuff.

I had a good one in Magnolia, but since I moved back into the city I feel like I’ve been bent over every time. Fuck them all

I found a guy local to Katy that I'm going to give a try. So far I've had luck with the locally owned businesses I've dealt with.

I'm looking for a gutter company to replace my existing gutters for a reasonable price.  I had Gutterman come out, but the bid was insanely high.  As an aside, anyone know how difficult it is to do your own gutter installation?

I didn't put any gutters on the last house I built.  I had drip edges installed and the landscaping had a very good slope away from the house to make sure the water didn't pool up against the house.  I liked that a lot better than gutters.

Not extremely hard unless you have a two story House

I'm having all new ones installed around my two story house in the next month or so. I've got three quotes so far and while one was pretty high, the other two seemed reasonable to me. I honestly don't know what's fair though.

Siding/Painting - http://www.pspcompany.com/

Highly Recommend. Lowest price of 3 companies quoted. Guys did great job. Siding crew chief and painting crew chief were very nice and easily addressed any concern or question.

Locksmith - https://www.cothrons.com/

Did Good work. No problems. Recommend (no idea if I got a good price)

Looking for:

Installing/Replacing Deck Company

Front Door replacement seller/installer.

Callen Roofing in Katy. Got five quotes for a full replacement and Floyd Callen was the only man I wanted to do business with. He didn't bullshit me and answered every question and concern I had. Also just a genuinely nice man. Helped that his quote was the lowest of the five and everything turned out as expected. Would recommend.

Also plan on having him do our gutters.

For the Austin metro area, we do gutters.

On the North / South zones, Georgetown down to San Marcos / New Braunfels (even San Antonio for the right total length).

East to West, Bastrop to Marble Falls.

$ 4.35 per linear ft. for the common 5" K style & $ 6.35 for a 6".

Add 10 ft. each for a single story downspout, 20 ft. for a 2nd story downspout.  $ 10.00 ea. for a miter (inside / outside).

Our most recent Shag gutter install was for DeftWill in Round Rock.  FYI, gutter costs are expected to go up AGAIN with this continued tariff thing (prices moved up 6% @ the 1st of May).

Floyd is a good guy. He's the pride of Sumter, SC and a pretty good guitar player.

He will do a good job for you.

Not hard if you have a gutter extruder. Otherwise you'll be buying 10 to 20 foot joints and caulking them up and have a generally poor job when compared to seamless.

Are you in Houston?  I have a gutter guy if you need one.  Best deal I could find.  Has his own truck and bender. He worked for someone else when I had the front of my home done, then I found him on his own when I had my patio added and needed the back of the house done.  He's good and not going to price you to death like the quotes I got from others (he was close to half the price of others.)

Anybody in Houston have a flooring guy that isn't going to Harvey price me?  Shit was crazy earlier in the year.

I need a Houston gutter rec. Would you mind posting contact info?

I've always dealt with Forsyth Floor on Long Point in Spring Branch.  Always been a good experience and seemed like a fair deal.

It is still going to be crazy.  Flooring, sheetrock, lumber, trim carpenters, painters are extremely busy right now.

What type of flooring do you need?

I have a good one if you're still looking and want to respond, will need to dig up his contact information.

If you're in need of appliance repair, I can't recommend Mike Holmes with Expert Appliance Repair more highly (512) 701-6984.  I've had multiple occasions in which he was able to do a simple (5 minute) fix, and then just said, "we'll make it up on the next one" rather than charge me anything.

If anyone has a landscape design company (that also does the work), I'd love to hear about them.  Last one I reached out to wanted $25k for just the design which sounds outrageous given the setting (maybe 5,000 square feet of yard, 3,500 of it covered in grass and not needing any consideration.

In Austin, also.

LC, I'm looking for a fence guy as well.  Had a section blow down in last nights storm.  Precciate it!

Home Appliance Repair - (Microwave, over, dish washer, garbage disposal, fridge, etc) - Ken Gilbert - Gilbert Home Services - ‭(512) 913-0417‬

Really nice guy, very honest, and prices are great. Works all over the Austin/Lakeway/RR/Buda area.

I think this is the right spot for this.

Looking for an Arborist in Austin to help with the City of Austin Report that will get a "heritage" tree gone.  Once the tree is gone we can move on to the GC/ Add on phase.
