So a couple days ago I’m at Lowe’s getting some shit and I get a notification on my phone that my car alarm is going off. I go outside and apparently some mouth breathing neanderthal had rammed my car with a shopping cart, leaving a steak of paint on my door.

What’s the best way to get this off? After googling, I tried goo gone and WD-40 which didn’t work that great. I got a decent amount off but it required scraping it off with my thumbnail. At this rate I will be left with bloody stumps for thumbs.

you're going to need a rubbing compound and probably a buffer to get that out

I would go to a pro.  It appears that that is a Tesla and they are relatively infamous for not having the best paint.  So I wouldn't try anything abrasive or a polisher on my own.

Might try some bug and tar remover, which is probably not all that different from WD40 or Googone, e.g. a mild solvent.

You might could try a "cleaner wax" with some very mild abrasive/solvents.

One of the problems you have with that is continued rubbing on a smallish area could leave swirls and stripes and stuff.

Did you let the solvent stuff soak for a bit?

meguiars ultimate compound is pretty safe to use, think it's at walmart, but def autozone.  $12ish

This !

Would also report it to Lowe's to try to identify the culprit.    Sry for your misfortune,  that is serious damage on a nice vehicle.

Toothpaste.  It's pretty gentle to paint, but abrasive enough to remove what is on your car.  I've used it on small areas before; would never think of doing an entire body panel with it.

Or, as suggested, take it to bodyshop/detailing place and let them deal with it.

real question though...did you have sentry mode on and get the culprit on video?

With small scuffs, I've sometimes had luck working the area with a clay bar and lubricant. But nothing as big as the area you've got there.

Magic Eraser has worked for me in the past. A video for your viewing pleasure (fast forward to 3:15 for how):

These are all wrong. Get a clay bar. You're welcome.

What pissed me off as much as the damage was that I didn’t catch the guy on video because sentry mode switched off as my battery got to 20 percent right when I parked.
