What's out there?  South Dakotans will decide on sports gambling in Deadwood.  (It'll pass easily.) medical marijuana (It'll be close.) and full marijuana legalization.  (It'll fail big, but set us up for a winning vote in a few years.)

North Dakotans vote on a rule to make ballot initiatives tougher to get through.  We've had trouble the last few years with outside interests coming in and pushing misleading ballot initiatives.  This vote will give the Legislature more say on them.  I'm not a fan of slowing it down in general, but I see the point.  I voted for this one.

It’s hard to imagine any state voting down medicinal. It passed by nearly 20 points in Oklahoma a few years ago.

im watching Arizona, New Jersey, South Dakota, Montana, and Mississippi’s efforts to legalize marijuana. It’s past time that America quits arresting people for a fucking plant.

The last poll I saw was 51% for. I figured it'd be more than that.

But that's because they realized that when they make their own drug this way their trailer doesn't explode.

Oregon becomes 1st state in the US to decriminalize drug possession

Oregonians made their state the first in the United States to decriminalize the personal possession of illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, oxycodone and methamphetamine.

Measure 110 was passing Tuesday by a wide margin in unofficial returns.

The ballot measure would reclassify possession of small amounts of drugs as a civil violation, similar to a traffic offense. The penalty would be a $100 fine, which a person can avoid by agreeing to participate in a health assessment. Selling and manufacturing drugs will remain illegal.

“It takes a lot of courage to try something new, and I’m really proud of our state,” said Haven Wheelock, a harm reduction specialist at Outside In and one of the petitioners who filed the measure. “I’m excited to be a model for other places to show that we don’t have to harm people for being sick.”
