  • It's not a close call. It's not easy, but it's not a close call. The argument against a shutdown is that Dems don't really have any leverage anyway and letting the government shut down means Trump/Elo

No need for the reassurance. Nobody would pretend to be a socialist nepobaby who was involved in student government at a small liberal arts college.

I realize that he represents wonderful things to some people (like my kids) and terrible things to others (many of my colleagues). Those two groups are equally silly and unrealistic. The risk with  Zohran Mamdani is that he won’t be competent bureaucrat, which is required to succeed in that job.  Hopefully he will surround himself with career public sector technocrats and not staff senior jobs from the ranks of activism.

Let me clock the tea for a second:

He wasn't the student body president that year but he did try to get her kicked out of school for a problematic halloween tho. #teacup #fingershand

Nobody takes brave stands in safe spaces like progressive maxis. Demanding Halloween justice at Bowdoin is almost as brave as the Free Palestine protesters who very briefly disrupted the weekly pétanque game at the Mueller Farmers Market last month to take a group photo on the terrain.

There's probably a cute name for them like Three Stooges or something, but Bates, Colby, and Bowdoin are a pretty formidable array of small, rigorous liberal arts colleges in Maine.

Might be time to create a Newsom 2028 thread

This is the line to get into @GavinNewsom’s Houston Texas rally before doors opened. Seems like a lot of Texans sure do want some California in our state!

I had a buddy from high school who went to Bates. We asked him if he was enrolling in the master program

It's hard to believe he came out of the gate by inviting ghouls like Steve Bannon (and, I think, Charlie Kirk? Or Nick Fuentes. Someone like that) on his podcast and acting all buddy buddy. He turned that shit around in a hurry. I'm not sure who was feeding him advice then but I'm assuming they have been fired.

There is a much wider definition of populist than the one you're using. Populist issues and grasping complexities aren't mutually exclusive by any means.

LOL. Two Democratic women with national security experience won governorships in contested states yesterday, while the fascist party got wiped the fuck out across the board. There was massive turnout in CA on a single, complex issue all about defeating the fascist party. Which party needs to wholly reinvent itself?

This clip below shows a simple thing - the fascist party is committed to their repulsive lies and hypocrisy, and churlish games.

Good recovery by Loeffler, who initially used the correct name of one of the two major political parties in the United States, but in the next sentence quickly cleaned up that “ic-y” gaffe. “This is what the Democratic Party is. This is the base of the Democrat party now.” [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Ezra Klein talked about this on Friday and described Newsome as an old school politician.  I’m paraphrasing, but he says “this is what people like and don’t like about Newsome.  He does the things we expect politicians to do, like experiment and then pivot towards the things that are popular.”

In other words, we’re all a little deranged living in an era of Trump in which he does all of the unpopular shit and seems to mostly get away with it.

Senator Schumer is the worst Democraic leader in either chamber since the civil rights movement. Fuck this spineless weasel

Dear you, insert _________ Democratic voter. Vote blue no matter what. Send me money so I can sell you out for the worst deal you’ve ever seen and immediately go work for OpenAI to lobby against your interest for $6,000,000 a year when I’m done with this job.

#5020

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Shaheen: So let me be clear. No one in the senate chamber wants to extend the ACA tax credits more than I do.

The only Dem senators voting to cave on the shutdown fight are either retiring or not up for reelection this cycle. Might be Dems' most beautifully synchronized cave yet [contains quote post or other embedded content]

You had one demand. And now you hand the GQP a win and get nothing in return. Useless, brainless, spineless fucking pussies. We'd be better off if Obama took a shit in a box and we let the turd run the party. why even bother with the shutdown in the first place you dumb motherfuckers?

Look at all these fucking 80 year olds (Fetterman has the CTE brain of a 180 year old).

If Chuck Schumer was a stronger leader, he would have been able to convince most of these senators to hold the line. I’m terribly disappointed in him.

Bunch of ineffectual limp dicks. The democrats couldn’t get laid in a whore house on pay day.

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

Expel the yes votes from the party and cut off all their access to fundraising, then remove Schumer from leadership. Anything less is mealy-mouthed coward bullshit. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

If all the roles were reversed to where the Dems had the Presidency, House, Senate, judiciary, with the same margins during the same kind of shutdown, the Republican Senate minority leader would be co-president right now. Especially after an electoral sweep, they'd be making constant headlines. We'd be so fucking sick of that guy.

This kind of thinking… that anger will only be directed at the retiring senators who vote for this is so completely out of touch beltway bullshit.

There is no strategy here by dems as a party. I even understand stroked out senators or ones that are in swing states… but 7?! 7 senators breaking ranks.

Jesus.

People want principled resistance to a madman authoritarian.

We’ve got limp dick sycophants more concerned with following polling number that likely can’t even be trusted. It’s liked they’ve lost touch with normal human beings and don’t understand authenticity

Just as it felt like the tide of public opinion was truly starting to turn firmly against the Republicans.

If we truly cave and get nothing in return, what was any of this for? Unbelievable and unforgivable.

I might have to sit the midterm out on principle. If y’all are this unserious and performative as a party, you aren’t getting a single vote from me.

The nos all need to be primaried too. Unless you see them move to remove Schumer from leadership in the next few days, it's a safe bet that many of them are chickenshit and only voted no because there were enough yes votes to give them cover. Assuming they don't do that, none of them can be trusted because none of them can be honest with their own voters.

Hey look, this is the case yet again.
