November 13, 20205 yr Driving from Fort Stockton to Georgetown tomorrow. Is there a BBQ joint between the two that is a must (deviations from the direct route are cool)?
November 13, 20205 yr Won't you be going right through Llano? Cooper's is pretty much Texas BBQ royalty. Not my favorite, but damn good.

I’m only half Texan (Mom) and have been living in CA since 2003, so I’m out of the loop on where to go and have difficulty remembering where some towns are located. I’ve also had several Jamos and Lone Stars after driving 1,400 miles in two days. Cooper’s will get programmed into the GPS. Thanks for the reminder/rec.
November 13, 20205 yr Coopers is perfect for your needs and I suspect manby a small town will have a local joint with character
November 13, 20205 yr Just checked the TX Monthly map. Castell General Store and Payne's BBQ Shak (Burnet) are also on your route. Haven't been to either.

Castell General Store serves one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. I choose that over Cooper's any day, but why not both?

November 13, 20205 yr Inman's in Llano - solid brisket and turkey sausage, great smoked pork loin, and apple pie that's out of the world.
November 13, 20205 yr Yeah I thought Inman’s was the move in Llano. I’ve never been a huge fan of Cooper’s.

November 13, 20205 yr Man that's disappointing. I am FAR from a food or bbq snob. Fam and I ate at the location by the FW Stock Yards and it was inedible. Weird how much variance there is between locations. Edited November 13, 20205 yr by Knoxtnhorn

The 2 times I have been there the brisket had a steamed taste and texture. Beef ribs were the worst I have had.
