November 17, 20205 yr Mom was going through some of Dad's old stuff, and found two of these, brand new, still in the box: We are gonna mount one in each of our trucks. Can't wait to be involved in a high speed pursuit and get to slip into the rocking chair. I bet Lil' Beaver is now Lil' Old Crusty Beaver. I would have liked to have had one when we hunted north of Abilene, absolutely no phone signal out there. Any of you degenerates still have one in your vehicle? CHIEF
November 17, 20205 yr I do because I used to drive 100 mph from Miami to Chicago and back a couple of times a year, and it was marginally helpful for learning about upcoming speed traps. My wife hated all the background noise, but I found it somewhat soothing in a strange and backwards way. I haven't fired it up in years (don't have the antenna permanently mounted and am no longer making that drive) but the amount of trolling and other assorted nonsense (particularly racist tirades from especially strong transmitters) was often enough to make me turn it off for long stretches. Nevertheless, keep us posted on the location of any cathouses that you discover.

November 18, 20205 yr Give me a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it quick, I'm in a god-damn hurry.
November 18, 20205 yr I used to have one 20 years ago when I was burning up the highways of ar,ok,la,and tx in sales. It did help with the troopers. As I understand they aren't as popular any longer.
November 18, 20205 yr My Grandmother's 2nd husband had a 1976 Grand Prix with the CB mounted on the passenger side under the dash, and I hit my shin on that fucker every damn time I got in the car. His handle was "Bald Eagle".
November 18, 20205 yr We all had them in our vehicles in high school during the mid 90's. I stole my dad's handle from the 70's - The Texas Chuckwagon.
November 18, 20205 yr Author Yep, we gotta come up with handles. My truck is an F350 dually flatbed, we call it the Great White Shark. CHIEF Jr.'s truck we call the Silver Bullet, but I am 100% positive that one is being used by multiple people, thinking maybe the "Silver Surfer" for him, or "Truck Nuts" bet that one is being used to. The modernization of trucking logs, better interstate coordination between DOTs, GPS beacons on trucks, and speed governors on trucks (plus stiffer penalties for any violations) have all combined to make CBs more or less useless to modern truck drivers, at least as far as I understand it. In my experience, it wasn't uncommon to get a bit of grief and push back when asking about speed traps. Some insisted that I shouldn't care because of the speed limiters, while others got affirmatively angry with me for ruining it for everyone else, but they'll just tell you to fuck off (if anything at all) if they discover that you're a "four wheeler" - an apparent derogation of passenger vehicle operators...

Not enough users (on I-20 anyway) anymore.
November 18, 20205 yr I'd get one just so I can scream profanities at those F-ing truckers going 10 miles under the speed limit.....side by side by side.....blocking traffic. *yes, I know they have very strict governors. Don't fucking care. Want to murder......

Now I watch out for them. Low hour drivers apparently.
November 19, 20205 yr Listening to CB chatter and Bruce Williams on am radio were my podcasts of the 70's and 80's. Miles flew by having that entertainment.

I know a Swift driver. He is young. His first trucking experience. Their trucks are governed to 67 mph.
November 19, 20205 yr There is a CB radio shop near by neighborhood in Houston -- in between Weslayan and the UP tracks on Richmond. They also sell car alarms. It has to be some sort of money laundering operation.

November 19, 20205 yr Jimmy Carter made them real popular what with the 55mph federal highway speed limit and the world still running at 70mph. Had one in my 1970 Ford Maverick. Handle was "Disco Duck" 'cause that was the hit novelty tune and I could do the Donald Duck voice. Yep. A cold beer, the cb radio, a Gene Tracy truck stop or Jerry Clower tape... yep. Saturday night in paradise.
November 20, 20205 yr Always used mine on the run back and forth between Houston and Austin when subways in school. I was French Fry.
November 20, 20205 yr csb warning: An old dude that I became friends with came back from Vietnam (Marines) with a bad leg, but he'd inherited some money. His bad leg kept him close to Pendleton because hospital, etc. He ends up buying this bar by the back gate. The "Joker". He's making a living, but that's it. Mostly crusty old vets come in for a beer after work. So, the CB thing starts getting popular. One of his regulars comes in one day, and says "Hey Al, why don't you let me put a CB in this place. That way, I can let you know when I'm coming and you can have my beer in front of my stool". Al says WTF, OK. Dude puts the CB radio in the bar. Next thing you know, the bar is packed at all times. Fucking CB fucks are there when the doors open, and he's got to kick them out at closing time. So, they start "The Joker CB Club" and Al sells them hats, jackets, bumperstickers, etc. He's making a killing. He decides to start organizing road trips. "Camporees" he calls them. He puts the thing together, charges the fee, and makes money from that too. They decide to do one in Rosarito Beach. Turns out, both the mayor and Police Chief of Tijuana are CB guys, so they pick up a police escort at the border that takes the caravan to Rosarito. These guys are just looking for an excuse to get in their vehicles so they can "breaker breaker" each other. Fucking simpletons. Anyway, the bar is going apeshit. Al's making money hand over fist for a few years. He wisely decides that it's a good time to cash out. He sells the bar for about 10 times what he bought if for. Before you know it, the CB craze is over, and it's back to a few crusty vets stopping by for a beer, and that's it for "The Joker".

November 20, 20205 yr I learned how to cuss from the cb in my grandpas shitty pickup that was used exclusively for hunting/fishing trips.

Cell phones and qual comms did more for phasing them out than the government. I’d say less than half have them now and most of those guys use them to talk to the guys they’re running with or when they are at a shipper or receiver.
November 25, 20205 yr I'm gonna need a new car, to block for the truck... a speedy car... speedier than that.
