Are all the reddit volunteer moderators going to quit once they learn that the site's CEO and COO earned a combined 300 million dollars last year?

For one, it's only $7B market cap. But more importantly, it just isn't mainstream enough.

It's had two decades. I think it will continue to grow, but not Facebook-style hockey stick growth. It is so eccentric that I think it runs off "normals"

And it's becoming Google for answers because Google updated their algorithms to heavily promote it. There's a $60 million deal for Google to use Reddit for training its AI, but the traffic that Google has pushed to them with that algo change is worth much, much more.

One algo change and the value of the company will absolutely plummet.

Just to be clear, RDDT stock could soar. But reaching the sort of value the FAANG companies have? No way.

They also have been taking tens of millions in losses despite significant revenue growth (according to their filings)

image.thumb.png.d823b0a93ca562be8d0181470416504f.png

Their operating loss is greater than what it cost them to get that business in the first place for goodness sakes lol

The fact that anyone would mod that place for free is wild to me. Especially after the CEO took home something like $200 million.

You want me to spend my time and energy moderating your content? Pay me.

So if one were to launch a stock sale for say, $3bn?  And then then next day, for example, sell 1/3rd of that stock...would that affect the rest the outstanding share pricing?  Just asking for a friend.

Guess your friend doesn’t have to worry anymore since that person doesn’t have to sell anymore …

Are the NYSE and NASDAQ different exchanges or am I just going senile?

Not sure the exact technical answer to the first question; for the second if you have to ask it is probably true.
The NYSE and NASDAQ are separate entities - some history on the NYSE https://www.nyse.com/history-of-nyse#:~:text=In 2008%2C the NYSE acquired, listing on NYSE in 2005.

Quote

In the early 2000s, changes occurred across the NYSE. On November 16, 2005, Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE) listed on the NYSE. In 2006, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Archipelago (Arca), and the Pacific Exchange (PCX) merged to form the publicly traded NYSE Group, ending membership ownership of the Exchange. In 2008, the NYSE acquired the American Stock Exchange, becoming the third largest U.S. options market. By 2013, ICE acquired the NYSE and remains the parent organization of the Exchange today.

NASDAQ is also a separate publicly traded exchange - https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/career-map/sell-side/capital-markets/nasdaq/

Quote

The NASDAQ is a U.S.-based stock market exchange and the second-largest stock exchange by market cap globally. NASDAQ stands for National Association of Security Dealers Automated Quotations and is owned and operated by NASDAQ Inc.

Both ICE and NASDAQ, Inc. are publicly traded, and the largest investors are institutions like Black Rock, Vanguard, State Street, TRowe Price, Lazard,  etc - so it seems like it is a circle within a circle, or maybe just a big money manager circle jerk.

So if a business expert were to conflate the two, that'd be discomforting?

Of course Reddit would become a meme stock.

clearly there is only one correct answer - best summarized technical analysis is - 🚀

Do any stocks really have value long term at current valuations??

Do any stocks really have value long term at current valuations??

They do if they keep going fucking up

And if their dividend yield is substantial... and not likely to be fucked with.

Anyone get in on the Truth Social action today?

Also, is there an index fund of marine salvage corporations in the mid Atlantic coast?

Finally, a decent pullback in the market. Let's see if we can actually get some of the froth out of this market.

(maybe, for a tiny bit)

Stock prices drop a bit and yields tick up? I'll take both. Hell, give me a month of it, and I'd be happy.

Now if oil would chill out a little bit.

be careful what you wish for - you might just get the whole darn thing. I once heard these words from a wise may ( or maybe it was a wise guy )

Seems like a market that wants to drop. Pullback yesterday, fading rally today.

Yeah, I guess it was in the inflation thread, but I talked about not understanding that the consensus was there were going to be cuts.

Low unemployment, solid GDP, inflation still higher than 2%. What's the need to cut?

The FED is going to get itself into a second, more disturbing pickle here really soon.

One thing I've noticed lately, is there is a ton of heavy equipment/vehicle inventory in the market right now (both new and used) and I have a feeling we're going to start to see that creep down further into other consumer durables.  That's going to seriously way on economic activity, leading to a healthy pullback.

Secondly, if the FED stays off the cut train too long, they're going to get to a situation where a cut is going to look bad rather than inspire stimulus...i.e. they'll have to make too big a cut and that will spook the markets and business owners in a major way.   That will make the market have a wipeout pullback.

Well see, lots of really rich executives made a fuckton of money when interest rates were at zero. And now its harder to make money. Not so hard that they will discontinue stock buybacks, but hard enough that they can justify laying off another 10% of the company.

I agree there isn't a economic reason to cut currently.  However, I've been consistently saying the fed is going to have to cut.  We have way, way, way too much debt rolling over to higher rates.  it will keep getting worse.

This shit makes me furious. Gotta run up debt during the GFC? Understandable. Gotta run it up during Covid? Yes. (You can argue amounts being excessive, etc.)

But during the good times, you better be making changes to pay it back. Not continuing to spend like crazy and cutting taxes. I'd argue that 2010-2020 were good times and 2022-Today are good times. Instead, we just keep going.

When the next black swan hits, we going to run that shit to 200% of GDP?

Every single Congressman knows if they are the ones to usher in some austerity/balance the budget, they will never be re-elected. And the American public is too stupid to see any further than their next paycheck.

There is only 1 solution. Congressional budget limits must be set by an independent committee, IE the fed. Congress can spend it however they wish but the Fed tells them what the limit is per year.

Be ready to super rage.   Our debt doesn’t get paid down.  Our “debt payments” are only interest payments.  The principal rolls over
