Lulz. I had the "nailed it" gif locked and loaded for later today.

In related news, GOOGL joins the $2T market cap club, hitting a new all-time high this morning.

I don’t agree with this oft used argument.

Value is value.

I don't know how to break the news - but nothing only goes up, buy the rumor/sell the news, so up 25% YTD, 113% 1 year, 147% 3 years and you are worried about the negative reaction to an earnings report.
This stuff happens all the time, and eventually to most companies, is your concern that it is more than a blip on the path forward? If so sell some, or buy puts (as a hedge), or sell some OTM calls to generate some premiums from your holdings.

note - my comments are based on interpreting your comments as if they relate to Facebook specifically and not the broader market (like S&P 500); I get that it is easy to get nervous. If you want more safety, you can still get 5%+ on cd's and there is no harm in that.

Ok we gotta know how big of a bet you placed on fucking YOLO

Got 1000 shares at 3. Wanted to double on 4/20 in anticipation of politicians being cheese dicks about weed and 420 references.

so not a yolo, but walking around money

I appreciate your post and agree with all of it. But I don’t think your response had anything to do with my post you quoted.

I was just making the point that value is value whether converted to cash or not.

Well that was an odd day.  What caused the Fed comment rally to collapse?

Was listening to Powell yammer headed to a meeting and didn’t hear anything controversial.

There was a big ding in healthcare because of Medicare Advantage, CVS was down 17% on the day.  Not sure what kind of impact that had on the overall market.

I hate this market - just sayin'
I've lost on hedging, all the while watching some of my investments decline.
The system is rigged, because I don't know how to bet against my own investing.

Uncle Warren still really likes AAPL, but he might be just sucking up to Tim Cook. A photo of them from the BRK.B cheap seats - f5ddfc230ed1bc7127bf260c8feb3f27.jpg

No, but I ate a Dilly bar, See’s chocolate, and a very nice aged Prime NY Strip at Gorat’s.

Did you hit the original furniture mart too?

If I had a dollar for every CEO that claimed to be "Involved in every aspect of this business down the paper clip" who later claimed, "I had no idea what was going on behind my back, I'm not omnipotent."  I'd have enough money to retire on yesterday.  /rant

Did you hit the original furniture mart too?

Yes. Had a latte, marveled at the selection and reasonable prices, and got to look through a $7,500 coffee table book of Annie Leibovitz photos.

Even saw the store that Mrs. B set up after selling the mart to Warren for $55MM.

They really need to get an animatronic Mrs. B or something for the people old enough to remember her barreling around on her scooter and yelling at people

Didn't they just sell their entire apple position?

LOL - great headline reading there. The actual answer is somewhere in those articles that you scanned

  • Buffett told shareholders at Berkshire's annual meeting that his view on Apple's business hadn't changed and that the tech giant will likely remain the conglomerate's largest stock holding at the end of 2024.

crowdsourced from Investopedia
fwiw they did sell their entire position in Paramount
full dislosure: I am sitting on my entire cash hoard (somewhat less than $90 billion) and waiting to buy on the dip when Old Uncle Warren kicks it, but that may be almost 10 years if his goal is to live longer than Charlie

Been debating getting into B for a couple years but figure once I pull the trigger, Uncle Warren will kick it.

In the Q&A, when Warren was going into stream of consciousness comment mode, he said “Apple, Coke, American Express. But definitely Apple. And then the camera panned to a smiling Tim Cook.

When asked about global warming and climate change and the insurance business, he commented “we write insurance policies for one year. Insurance is great. They give us money, we give them a piece of paper, and hope nothing happens.”

I think Ajit Jain is a robot. That guy is fascinating.

I am starting to think that BRK.A/B has the same idea about buying shares when Warren does die. I mean that $190 billion in cash would certainly be available to support buying into the distresssed mark & last I read Warrens' stake in worth under $140 billion. Damn it they are going to front run me on this last of his lifetime event.

Scared money don't make money.

The best time to invest in BRK was yesterday, it will still be true tomorrow, as it was last week, last year, etc.
Make it easy on yourself, $ cost average in over 6-12 months put 10-20% of the amount you want to invest every month, that way you avoid peaks and valleys relative to putting it in in one or two big chunks.
Past performance is no guarantee of future results; beware the Wally/Reverse Wally curse

Sell in April, buy it all back in May?

Nasdaq closed at a new ATH today at 16,511.

S&P at 5,246 is back to within 8 points of previous ATH set on 3/28/24.

DJIA back up to 39,555. Still on the hunt for 40K. Closest we've come is 39,807 back on 3/28/24.

Update after today's marginally-cooler-than-expected CPI print:

DJIA +349 tp 39,908. ATH

S&P +61 to 5,308. ATH

Nasdaq +231 to 16,742. ATH.

Someone should let Zac Solomon know it’s summertime in Austin  with a major university 5 minutes away.

But yea I’ve started handling most of my work by phone now and bring a laptop as backup in a bag.

@Wally Fairway

Would you ring your broker and start buying puts?  please?

It's been a slow couple of weeks, I'm sitting on the sidelines seeing which way the winds blow - looks like maybe headwinds, but then again if the market turns just slightly it could be the wind beneath my sails, or it could just be blowing smoke up my ass.

Getting a bit concerned that we are headed for a correction. I’m not going to sell on a major down day but it might be time to get heavier on cash.

My mindset: the people who own the pork belly contracts are saying, "Hey, we're losing all our damn money, and Christmas is around the corner, and I ain't gonna have no money to buy my son the G.I. Joe with the kung-fu grip! And my wife ain't gonna f... my wife ain't gonna make love to me if I got no money!" So they're panicking right now, they're screaming "SELL! SELL!" to get out before the price keeps dropping. They're panicking out there right now, I can feel it.

so the last 90 minutes in the market was great, now I can sleep better this weekend
nothing like forcing some window dressing for the end of the month, looking forward to the end of June and the quarter end parade
