October 29Oct 29 Top 5% in the US is $1.7M to $2.7M. The top 2% is around $4.5M to $5.7M. Top 1% is $10M. Granted this is skewed due to the top .1% having massive wealth.

October 29Oct 29 I have wondered what the breakdown of this site is and how that reflects the actual US population. We have 1 wealthy guy. A few of us are in the $5M range. Some in the $1M range. Rocco fit somewhere in here.

This site has more than one "wealthy" guy, there's at least 4-5 "wealthy guys," and I'd guess probably 15-20 or more in the $5 million range. There's probably a lot of engineers and lawyers worth well over a million just based on long careers and retirement funds, particularly if we're including home equity. I think it's more like an iceburg. 80% of it is below the water and doesn't post or you'd never know about it. Someone here probably invented a Jump to Conclusions mat.

October 29Oct 29 Lets be frank. A million dollars in wealth today is not an outlandish figure. I believe this board is mostly Gen X with some Millennials and one Pre-Columbian. Anyone who has owned a home over 15 years, contributed regularly to a retirement account and didn't HAVE to keep up the the joneses/divorced/developed a crippling drug habit is very likely over a million in NW.

A million dollars in today's world doesn't even constitute "wealth." It constitutes "I might able to retire one day and be able to eat and pay medical bills." That's about it.
October 29Oct 29 Remove the home, as you still have to have a roof over your head and selling said home to make that wealth liquid doesn’t mean you get all of it - because you still need a roof over your head. There may be 1 in 5 Americans with $1M net worth, but it isn’t accessible.

If you sell a house with $300K of equity(average US homeowner equity) you can spend half of that however you would like and still rent a house for 2k a month(avg home rental price) for 75 months just from the equity. Not the best financial decision, just a simple straight forward math example and yes the numbers are different in San Jose CA vs Pigsknuckle MS. Currently, by straight up math calculations, in some locations the prudent decision is to rent. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/whats-the-average-home-equity-amount-right-now/ The average homeowner currently has about $313,000 worth of equity in their home, according to the March 2025 Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Mortgage Monitor Report.

There’s probably 20-30 that have north of $10m and dozens more that are north of $5m. As for lawyers, if you’re mid career and not working for the government and you’re just now poking above $1m you’re doing it wrong. And the $5-10m+ range isn’t counting pending inheritance. Oh and a pension is effectively like a low seven figure net worth as well. This board has a wide variety of folks and a lot of active users most of whom graduated and went on to build pretty nice careers with their prestigious degree. there’s some real money on this board. October 29Oct 29 I left about $9M on the table leaving Western Digital to start a company based on today's WDC and SNDK stock prices. Yay me.

Yeah stock options at the peak aren’t as inciting plus companies get stingy when they are rolling in it. They gave massive stock option grants to keep talent when it was at its lowest. Those guys are worth a ton now, some with mid eight figure wealth, I know 3-4 with nine figure wealth.
October 29Oct 29 I think I read 40% of ALL Nvidia employees are millionaires and the average millionaire is with well above $1m. Nuts.
October 29Oct 29 My parents are 72 and 67 and in the 3.3-3.5 million range. Still live in the same 3br/2ba house they got 40 years ago when they got married. House's value is at 205k. Not a bad result for a quality assurance analyst and a lineman/truck driver. Edited October 29Oct 29 by StassneyHorn

A fabulous VP sounds kind of RuPaul like but you do you. VP depends entirely on the organization. I'm trying to get one of my best employees promoted to VP and the assholes around the room are saying she's just too young. You fucking idiots, that's why she should be a VP running an office.

We split the cheapest one, which is basically an outdoor alcove/partition with chairs and a mini fridge. And we were each given a 7 year layaway pay for our halves. the big “suites” you’re probably thinking of were 10 million a pop. Don’t get me wrong, I fucking love my seats and they were a great investment for my family, but any one here who’s paid private school tuition for a kid for a few years spent more money than my seats cost my family. I’d be shocked if my net worth is even top 10% of this website. Y'all some Poes.

October 30Oct 30 So let’s have some fun. I just had a rather large distribution. Right now I’m thinking 10% BTC ETF, 45% s/p index, and 45% investment vehicle that pays 8.5% but 75% of that taxed as ordinary income. But I could be convinced go all s/p and leave out investment vehicle. I’d still do 10% BTC. Let’s lose some money! Edited October 30Oct 30 by ChiTownDoc

Hell, just go look at the travel board. There are numerous people doing luxury vacations all over the world.
