Why does a hospital need to sell alcohol ?

I don't think they need to, but having lived in an area of Florida that is mostly retired folks, they don't do anything unless it involves cocktails. Guys at the dog park used to call 10:30 am the cocktail hour. If you happen to be a single male and end up in one of these communities it probably isn't a bad life. I know it is God's waiting room, but there are a lot worse ways to spend your time than playing golf, pounding cocktails, and chasing tail.

Not virtue, that’s for sure.

They added a single day season (if you are a Florida resident with a permit) to take lobster before the normal 2 day "mini season" that comes prior to the commercial and regular seasons.

Mini season is a shit show, because everyone with something that can float will descend from Dade/Broward to be out on the water fighting for lobster...  and I do mean fighting.   People will get run over, shot at, left behind, and arrested.  The boat ramps are swamped, the reefs and coral heads have thousands of boats on them.  Think Floridaman + coolers of beer + free lobster + Bumper boats.  The Keys are JAMMED with people and boats for a wild west style lobster grab.   The locals (who are also insufferable) are pissed because their towns are overrun with people just "raping their" natural resources!

So the GOP decided to spring an extra day of mini season on them, unleashing the hoard with no real economic benefit to the locals.   The Keys are basically populated with salty blue collar rednecks and rich folks from parts north.

tl/dr

It's a conflict generated by good ole fashioned Florida overtourism and the Keys evolving into exclusive playground for the rich.

fucking incredible.

I spent a couple of weeks in the keys (Marathon, to be specific) last May.  There's not much to do there except drink, eat, fuck, and watersports/fishing.  And BTW, living on the West Coast is much better than the East for a sports fan.  When I hit the bar in the afternoon here, there's always a game on TV.   Happy hour here=game time in the East.  Out there, there's dick to do except stare at people.

So much for freedom in eating whatever meat you want!

BREAKING: New law in Florida to place a ban on lab-grown meat will take effect on Monday, July 1st.

That’s weird. I wonder if it’s true. No way to tell from that tweet.

Governor DeSantis Signs Legislation to Keep Lab-Grown Meat Out of Florida
On May 1, 2024, in News Releases, by Staff
HARDEE COUNTY, Fla.—Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 1084 to prohibit the sale of lab-grown meat in the state of Florida. Florida is taking action to stop the World Economic Forum’s goal of forcing the world to eat lab-grown meat and insects, “an overlooked source of protein.” While the World Economic Forum is telling the world to forgo meat consumption, Florida is increasing meat production, and encouraging residents to continue to consume and enjoy 100% real Florida beef.

“Today, Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef.”

This is like a SNL skit.  Right now, lab grown meat is keeping people from eating lab grown meat. No law is needed. I'm not sure what a "ban" will do.

And who is this "global elite" that has a plan to force the world to eat lab grown meat to achieve their authoritarian goals? What goals are those?

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a bill that would’ve allowed ex-cons to become barbers or cosmetologists. People who’ve done their time and are trying to rebuild their life by learning a trade are blocked from doing so. https://t.co/av21iGpsO0

So stupid. Complete faux outrage in a display of performative hysteria, trying to create a crisis of big government coming to take away your rights where no such thing exists. It’s just another product on the shelves. No one is forcing you to eat it. It’s like freaking out over all the gluten free products that are everywhere now. Republicans finding solutions to problems that don’t exist. It’s like sowing fear and panic is the only tool they have.

Its weird, though. I was reading an article yesterday about different laws that were going into effect on 7/1. The only one from Florida listed was the new stand your ground against bears law which allows people to kill bears if they venture onto private property.

I had the same question, and my inference from his quote above is that the deep state wants to end ranching.  I’ll guess that the reason it wants to do that is the talk about cow fart methane being tied to climate change.

I've always been worried that an ex-con will resort to his life of crime right in the middle of working on my high fade.  And thanks to Ronda Santis, Floridians will no longer live with that fear.

So the guy in saltwater wading boots extends Lobster Season only to then turn around and make sure ex-felons can't use a blow dryer as a weapon?  All while trying blow Donald Trump to maybe get an Deputy AG post from which he'll be forced to resign from after 18 months after it's revealed he ate a lab-grown hamberder.  Yeah, Life?  It's been real.  But this is ridiculous, even for our timeline.

I dunno, but there's an Ice Cube part 4 franchise in here somewhere.  Which will certainly feature whichever criminally insane cosmetologist does Casey DeSantis' eyebrows.

Here we go again. The state of Florida has now ordered Supervisors of Elections offices in key urban areas to “review” signed petitions used to get the FL abortion amendment on the ballot to determine if there was “fraud.” Story. https://t.co/Eb28harKtZ

Ron Desantis tonight claims that George Soros is behind FL’s abortion rights ballot initiative, and says the all-Republican FL Supreme Court made a “horrendous decision” by allowing it to be on the ballot this November.
