July 18, 20214 yr Just now, Burt Macklin said: Lewis better get a stop go. That was bullshit and even if unintentional, Lewis shouldn’t get to benefit form that. I’m also not convinced it was unintentional. Lewis knows if he misses the apex, Max has to back out or gets clipped. Win win for Lewis. Have to punish that kind of behavior. I think it was Jenson who said it was Lewis refusing to back down because it was his only chance, he didn’t use the word PANIC but, he could have
July 18, 20214 yr meh, verstappen is the dude most notorious for elbows-out, inside-diving, hard racing. telemetry logs will tell if lewis intentionally went off line (late braking point, no attempt to steer, etc). as far as im concerned, that was a racing incident right up verstappens wheelhouse
July 18, 20214 yr Of course Hamilton didn’t respond or complain about the 10-second penalty. He knows what he did

The front wheels also hit which straightened up the steering a bit too, making it seem like he wasn’t going to hit the apex. And yeah, Max is aggressive to the limit every time, so this was always going to happen at some point. Hell, he even went off track at T1 while defending.
July 18, 20214 yr Letting Lewis take out Max and win is a horrible look for F1. Fucking bullshit. Second lightest penalty possible. Should’ve been a stop and go.
July 18, 20214 yr Hamilton became unlikeable for me today. That move in the beginning was exactly for that, to not have to worry about Max kicking his ass at home. Right when the racing is getting even, he pulls that shit off.
July 18, 20214 yr They’re not gonna suspend him. They had plenty of time to look at it and slapped him on the wrist.
July 18, 20214 yr Ferrari just loves throwing away points. If Sainz pit stop was even 7 seconds, he finishes 5th easily

Everyone knew that penalty wasn’t going to do anything. Lewis either has to hit the apex or back out. It’s that simple. You shouldn’t get to come up the inside while behind and flare out into the corner.

I’m not seeing where Lewis flared out on the corner, when their wheels touched his tires straighten out which make it appear that way. Lewis wasn’t going to hit the apex but Max had plenty of room on the outside he just wasn’t going to back off. My opinion is this was hard racing between aggressive drivers with neither driver going to back off and a 10 second penalty was probably the right call.

I can’t even recall a single time that Max has yielded, ever. He’s the most aggressive driver on the grid. Hell, even just two corners earlier Lewis gave tons of room at Brooklands.
July 18, 20214 yr This is actually a great synopsis: Copied text, bold emphasis mine:Verstappen vs Hamilton:• Verstappen ran wide in turn 1 to hold onto P1 at the start of the race: https://i.imgur.com/ontotHf.jpg• If Verstappen and Hamilton's positions were reversed in this position: https://i.imgur.com/I0yxBot.jpg Verstappen would have 100% dive bombed and forced his way through aggressively.• Verstappen defended out of turn 5 and then moved across (angling his car at Hamilton) and had a tiny tiny bit of contact down the straight towards turn 6: https://i.imgur.com/krv4YuI.jpg• At this point here https://i.imgur.com/iH6i7Ug.jpg Verstappen knew Hamilton was alongside so he knew that he had to give Hamilton room as per the rules, yet at this point: https://i.imgur.com/kSSHM6q.jpg he thought Hamilton had yielded and went for the turn in without thinking. Verstappen lifts off much earlier for the corner as you can see https://i.imgur.com/YT5PZyR.jpg Hamilton is very very easily alongside as shown in this edit: https://i.imgur.com/1VZiqUc.jpg but they are taking different lines into the corner because of the speed & position they are in, their lines are bound to cross: https://i.imgur.com/InrigS0.jpg, Verstappen had a lot more room that he could have given: https://i.imgur.com/sZyGIYI.jpg.Both drivers could have avoided the accident, Verstappen could have given more room and ran to the outside and ran over the run off. I'm just glad both drivers are okay.If we look at Barcelona earlier in the year, the race yesterday or even Imola... Verstappen has been on the same position as Hamilton was today and he never backed out of any of them. Instead Hamilton backed out to avoid the accidents; something which Verstappen could have done today.Lando vs Hamilton• Lando was also in Verstappens position and he backed out of it as Hamilton had got along side much earlier on in the straightLeclerc vs Hamilton• Leclerc in Verstappens position gave Hamilton the room he deserved, given that he was along side and he tried to stick it out on the outside of the corner to see if he can defend in that corner. He couldn't and he ran wide. Beautifully handled and unfortunate that he had a snap of the rear.Alonso vs Vettel: 2014• Alonso, who was in Verstappens position backed out of the corner much much earlier because he knew the car on the inside (Vettel) had the position claimed already.

Max never gives away anything. Hamilton was being aggressive but he didn’t make any move towards Max and he could have been avoided. Max is simply always hyper-aggressive and thinks he deserves his spot.

Max was all over the track even going off once trying to block Hamilton before the wreck, this was bound to happen with how aggressive he drives and Hamilton’s need to turn up the pressure to get back in the Champ race.
July 18, 20214 yr One if verstappena celebrated wins: behind going into the corner. Dives on inside. Ends up middle of track at apex. Forces someone out - literally not an inch given at exit. no penalties. Fuck him.
July 18, 20214 yr Meh, it's possible that Max has driven overly aggressively and deserved major penalties before, and that Lewis drove overly aggressively and deserved a major penalty for this. It's not only possible, it's the reality. In other words, WhyNotBoth? *shrug*
July 18, 20214 yr Laughable that RBR is crying for Hamilton to be suspended considering how Max drives, do we want these race car drivers to actually race each other or just parade around the track?
