Spurs had Tim 'freaking' Duncan, Ginobli, Tony Parker. Players matter. Get talent.

Cubes let Nash walk away to Phoenix (and win 2 MVP’s) by undervaluing him.

Pretty remarkable for a team with a shitty owner. coach. and gm to have the second best winning percentage in the league for the last 20 years.

Y'all keep dropping  that knowledge though. At least until Cowboys preseason starts and you're wearing a jersey pounding Miller Lites in the Party Pit.

2nd best winning percentage over a 20 year time frame ought to correspond with more championships than the Toronto Raptors have.

Who does Haralabob want for GM and Coach?

Hats labor sounds like a city in Pakistan.   Fuck Haralabob.

i dunno about him, can he keep playing like he did in the playoffs or is his track record who he is?

You feel like you can fix Simmons? Dude looks straight broken.

If he's willing to play center/like Draymond. Not sure that idea interests him

Ben Simmons is a worse contract than KP. Can't provide zero on offense in today's NBA.

Offense has such an advantage now. Draymond, Gobert, Ben Simmons. All bad contracts.

Don't be regarded. I don't want any guy who's afraid to shoot the ball

#1-3 in the NBA on defense:

Steph Curry had an MVP like season and Warriors didn't make the playoffs because Draymond is overpaid.

Jazz got bounced in the 2nd round because Rudy Gobert is overpaid.

76ers lost Game 7 because Ben Simmons is overpaid.

Would go get Reggie Jackson. That guy is underrated.

reggie jackson is what we want THJ to be.  as much as I hate Morris, he and Jackson are the reason they beat the mavs.

No. But he's smart and he can defend. I'd be excited to see him next to Luka. I think there's something / enough there.  Plus I'm ready for the KP experiment to be over.

Holy fuck no to Simmons. I get wanting to get rid of KP but not for Simmons. 100% liability with the game on the line. He's hesitant, can't hit a FT to save his life and has no real jump shot to speak of. The point right now to trade KP is to dump his terrible contract. Not to bring on an even worse contract.

Maybe they'll give us Seth back, who got torched by Kevin Huerter all game.

Ben Simmons next 4 years: $33million, $35m $37m, $40m. His FT% was around 32% for the series and scared to even go for an open dunk.

Simmons goes the dunkers spot on every possession because he can’t shoot but gets nothing done there. Doesn’t catch lobs, doesn't roll and finish over bigs, can’t seal bigger players off to get offensive rebounds, can’t screen properly because his man always helps on the ball handler. Also, by being in the dunkers spot and still not being an offensive threat, his man is able to help contest every shot at the rim making it harder for everyone to score at the rim (and draw less fouls and generate less open 3s because the help never has to come from the perimeter).

In a league that makes it as easy for the offense as possible.

I was listening to the most recent Bill Simmons podcast and in discussing game 7 between the Bucks and Nets he started listing other game 7s that went to OT. That discussion caused him to reference the 2006 game 7 of the Mavs/Spurs series where he brought up his book of basketball podcast series and called it the best series of rhe decade. So of course I had to go back and listen to that episode. Fucking A!! I'd forgotten how exciting that win was to me. Despite or the eventual theft that took place in the finals that win over the Spurs still rates highly for me. Anyways it's a good listen if you're interested.

I once thought Draymond was going to be Dennis Rodman with offense. I know, I know.

Draymond is arguably the best defender in the league when you factor in versatility (in the paint and perimeter), can facilitate on offense, and not be a complete liability at the free throw line and... he can still only be your 3rd or 4th best player if you hope to compete. Kinda tells you what a defensive specialist is worth.

A guy that can play defense at 65% of a Ben Simmons but knock down 3s at a reasonable clip is more valuable. And oh yeah, you don't have to give that 3&D guy a max contract.

If Simmons could escape from his mind fuck enough to reverted to some form of this again:

Maybe a team could use him.

The Warriors missed the playoffs because they didn’t get a single game from their 2nd best player and the huge cap number he ties up (minus the relatively small exception they got back).

I think it may be a little reductive to say the Jazz were bounced because Rudy is overplayed but he did have a bad series.

Agree, the 76ers loss is all on Simmons

I feel like someone should do a wellness check on Ben Simmons

You think he’s feeling a little down under?

So if Rick lands a job here in the next few weeks, do we get a pick from that team since he had two years left on his deal? Seems like we should.

I've never heard of that sort of arrangement before. Best you can hope for is that there was offset language in his contract, not that Cuban is sweating the bill.

It's just weird because he had two years left on his deal. It's one thing if he "retires" for a year, but it just seems odd that the Mavs would let him walk like that and not demand some type of compensation from the next team.

This is nothing but Cuban putting yes men around him while he is heavily involved. Sounds extremely familiar to another owner we have in the DFW...Cuban used Dirk last week as a PR move after those stories broke. What is the point of hiring a firm to seek out the replacements if you just hire within? Or it was just all a dog and pony show.

I like Finley.  I hope he'll be good.  I assume we can go ahead pencil in Mosley.

This reeks of laziness and being comfortable on Cubans part, ala Jerry.

He's gonna waste the next 4 years of Luka and when Luka ends up leaving because of Cubans inability to put a team around him I'm gonna quit watching the Mavs.

Of course Cuban will come up with some BS excuse, spin it and face no real consequences because he's a billionaire and not a real person.

These are my concerns, dude.

An owner that doesn't value the draft doesn't want picks.

This is my shocked face.

That’s so freaking stupid. Get a damn pick and give the new GM something to work with. Idiot.

from Marc Stein's column.  ugh:

The Mavericks are not pursuing marquee executives like Toronto’s Masai Ujiri or Danny Ainge, the former Boston president of basketball operations, to replace Nelson, according to a person with knowledge of the team’s intentions. Those executives would surely want more autonomy than Cuban is willing to cede. As I reported last week, Dallas is strongly considering elevating one of Nowitzki’s favorite former teammates — Michael Finley — to be the team’s head of basketball operations. The team is also looking at external candidates for the post, through a search firm, and plans to add to the group with an external hire even if Finley gets the job. Cuban needs to surround himself with as much versatility and experience as the Mavericks can muster, since he will always be the organization’s lead shot-caller and prefers to render the final say after consulting top aides.

The Suns made a former player their GM and they are rolling right now.

Lakers made Kobe or Lebron's agent the GM and won a ring.

Could hire anyone right now and I would be worried about losing Luka. Doesn't seem he's gonna wait around like Dirk.

Dirk is the anomaly here, not Luka. I would question any player’s willingness to stay with a shitshow franchise. Mavs are no different than the Cowboys. Luka should get out now. I’d probably root for him even more.

Believe the Mavs are the 2nd most winning franchise behind the Spurs since Cuban took over.

Shit show of an offseason but it really comes down to if the Mavs can get a proper #2 star beside Luka in the next few years. It's gonna be tough cause most stars either remain with their current team or want to go to LA, NY/NJ, or Miami. Don't think it's a surprise guys like Lebron and KD don't have Dallas as their first choice when they opt out. Probably aren't going to sign up with San Antonio or OKC either no matter how good their front office may be.

carlisle to Indiana Pacers.   would have been nice to get a pick but oh well.

That’s how you cement your legacy- by making sure the guy behind you sucks ass. Just ask Mack Brown.

you live a miserable life.

I have no idea how I completely feel about this but it really does smack a bit of a Jerry Jones "I'm Comfortable With Him" type hire. His record isn't great and there were problems in his previous stops.

Don't worry if we're out of timeouts, we'll just make our own.
