June 25, 20223 yr Got it. Yeah, I have several rods across a full range of weights, for salt and fresh, and a dozen reels and spools all of which I dearly love using to not catch fish. But I was out there today at dawn and will damn sure be out again tomorrow, greeting the morning with waders and sunglasses on, standing waist deep in some body of water or ‘nother.

June 27, 20223 yr I’m in beautiful stunning La Porte for work today and tomorrow. Any tips on spots to freshwater fish for bass/panfish/etc? Not my normal fishing grounds so I’m all ears.
June 27, 20223 yr Went trout fishing for the first time near Baffin bay this past weekend. Good times were had, limits were reached. Couldn't find the reds though and the drums weren't biting.

I think there’s a State Park there.
June 28, 20223 yr Best approach would be to head down to the Kemah area and catch yourself a seafood platter and a few cold beers. Maybe someplace where the bikinis are running.

It’s a great fishery with tons of big ass largemouth, but the parking lots are…not monitored for shitbag thief motherfuckers scum.
June 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Me and a buddy with a late evening wade yesterday. Mostly dinks and a few bait stealers but we got these 5. All but one 20+ with the biggest at 23. Beautiful evening after the morning rains.
July 2, 20223 yr Popular Post Finally got the skunk off me early this morning at a pond in North Austin. Had a bigger one that took off on me as I reached down to lip him and broke the line. That fish went airborne three times. Kicking myself. Edited July 2, 20223 yr by Deej

July 5, 20223 yr Was at our family place for the 4th. We caught a bunch of bass. My nephew caught this 8 pounder.
July 8, 20223 yr I saw this sticker on someone’s car the other day. I thought it was pretty funny. And they had a “Scenic Rivers” license plate.
July 11, 20223 yr Popular Post T-minus two hours before we hit the road for Colorado. And to give them kudos, Scott got my rod fixed and shipped back a week ago! It's just too bad that I'd bought a TFO LK in the meantime. Whatever shall I do??? (Narrator: He shall not catch fish with any of them.)
July 13, 20223 yr Along with that salmon. We did a combo of rockfish. Holy crap. Rockfish are delicious

July 15, 20223 yr Popular Post Fishing trip with my son after picking him up in camp. Rio Grande cutthroats caught last Sunday evening at an extremely isolated lake in southern Colorado. Also, some brookies and browns from a little blue line on the Colorado/New Mexico border. One last RGCT. Their colors are stunning. Edited July 15, 20223 yr by MalibuSheriff
July 15, 20223 yr Some of the most brilliantly colored cutts I've ever seen, @MalibuSheriff. Guess I have to add them to the list, too.
July 15, 20223 yr Damn, that’s heaven. What were you throwing at them? Assuming dries on the creeks? That’s some mighty still water in the lake for trout! How many days were you out?
July 15, 20223 yr Dang @MalibuSheriff one trip like that and I’d be trying to find a way to make it happen all the time. That’s awesome.

How many days were you out? We were throwing a Letort hopper style fly that I tied for the cutts in the lake. Rio Grande Kings and Sparkle Duns on the small streams. Size 14-18. I highly recommend making the trip someday. It’s quite an undertaking to get to the lakes where they reside. I’ve learned quite a bit about the Rio Grande Cutthroats from Chris at Living Waters in Round Rock when we lived in Austin. He has a film they’ve put together that’s on their website and he had a seminar before Covid with the biologist from Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Colorado Parks & Wildlife put out a lot of information about their restoration efforts (Rio Grande Cutts occupy less than 10% of their historic range due to non-native rainbows cross breeding and browns and brookies which out compete the natives Rios): https://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/ResearchRioGrandeCutthroatTrout.aspx https://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/Research/Aquatic/CutthroatTrout/TU_RGCT_broch-final.pdf We just got to fish Sunday evening and Monday. Unfortunately didn’t have more time as I had several projects I needed to return to work on. I could spend all summer up there. Edited July 15, 20223 yr by MalibuSheriff
July 16, 20223 yr Anyone know if you can wade walter E long lake? Considering going this evening can’t find any info other than boats are good and the fish are at about 10 feet deep.

Will end up with a yak eventually I’m sure. Going to brushy creek tonight. But pics of those bass on WEL lake may hasten the purchase. I’m going to need to rent a garage I think. Fuck the haters.

On that note, in a week, I'll be chasing the bulls on an extended camping trip. I'm like a kid the night before Christmas--so wound up, I can't think straight or focus on anything else beyond five minutes.

July 17, 20223 yr Ironically I fish barbless only now. Ironically because this barbed hook happened … someone’s line was on the shore and I didn’t realize when it wrapped around my ankle and I pulled on it there was a hook, furk. In my pinkie. I did pick up a 3 wt set up today though. Ross and TFO, man the TFO action is spectacular at 3 wt. Caught 10 or so sunfish, 2 small mouth bass. It was a blast on my new rod and reel. Ironically because this barbed hook happened … someone’s line was on the shore and I didn’t realize when it wrapped around my ankle and I pulled on it there was a hook, furk. In my pinkie. I learned about 20 years ago to never fish without a pair of something that can cut whatever hook you might encounter, out. My last experience was also someone else’s, went through the knuckle in my left thumb. When I go offshore I upsize to a pair of dykes that weigh about 10#, and have since added a cordless dremel. I’m never going to go the full day with a hook buried if I can help it. Those little perch hooks have the barbs up top too, oof.
July 18, 20223 yr Yeah a leatherman or a set of klien side cutters would have taken care of that one. +1 on the small bolt cutters for offshore. Seems kinda stupid carrying them but better safe than sorry.
July 18, 20223 yr I had the tools I was in town and didn’t want to push it through without local. That pic was after local and the doctor pushed it through the skin, initially the hook was just half embedded into my finger. I coulda yanked it out, I coulda pushed it through, but why? I needed a tetanus shot anyway so I went to the urgent care 15 mins away. Here’s how it looked originally. Edited July 18, 20223 yr by troph
