And they lost. Also think Sark has been talking with Saban about this longer than we think.

The whole seeing the defense under Ash and thinking “what this unit needs is Mike Stoops” thing is very weird to me.

Does it have to be stoops?

That list is insane... don’t underestimate poaching Dylan Moses from LSU.  That was a dirty dirty recruitment.  Dude convinced Keenan Allen to go to Cal...

Daddy got paid.

A top 4 playoff Texas team will generate more hype and money than a bunch of pearl clutching alumni could ever hope to match in donations.

This is simply not true.

Donations the past three years:

2017: $137 Million
2018: $116 Million
2019: $163 Million

Total Revenue for Football each of those years was between $144-156 Million.

Sure, revenues would tend upward with conference championships and CFP appearances... but donations are and always will be a huge part of the lifeblood of the program.

You’re missing the point. Getting in the playoffs will generate way more money in donations and revenue than keeping the pearl clutching alumni engaged while we watch all the schools that pay take the best recruits.

Gerry Hamilton:

Spoiler

Inside Texas has learned that former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, who is currently a defensive analyst for Alabama, is "unlikely" to join Steve Sarkisian at Texas.

"It doesn't look like that's going to happen," a source close to the situation said.

Stoops has been rumored to be a candidate to coach linebackers as well as Co-DC.

We need some recruiting assassins first to lock up the best of the best. Ewers is #1 on that list, followed by Denver Harris, Shemar Stewart, Domani Jackson, Caleb Burton, and Kamari Wilson. Also some bad ass linemen.

I 1000% agree with this. Shipley was one of the few initial hires that Herman got right. He is one of the most genuine/likable guys out there and would play a crucial role in helping Stark with TX High school coaches.

Shipley is also a good man -- good to have some of those around for a guy like Sark who's had the personal issues at USC.

Ok, bullet dodged. I can officially eliminate a Watson/Wareheim hire with this staff.

I must not be seeing the link you provided comparing the donations to when we are competing for national championships.

Sark might be reading the room better than previous  coaches. I like.

All of them at the same time.

We were never going to hire a guy that ou fired.

With regard to Raymond.... are we okay with whatever his involvement was with the LSU mess?

Yeah... I was pretty meh on this hire but if they land anywhere near the names that are being thrown out, then I'm all in.

This job isn't as difficult as the last two clowns have made it out to be. Hire the best assistants you can find, recruit like a motherfucker and then profit.

The best thing that Sark has going for him though, is the talent on campus. Say what you will about Herman, but his staff did a nice job on talent evaluation and acquisition. They for sure didn't pull in the 4 and 5 star guys that they should have, but their secondary evals have been on point. We've all bemoaned our offensive line recruiting, especially this year, but what Sarkisian is inheriting on the OL is light years beyond what Strong or Herman started out with. And that doesn't even mention Bijan and a healthy quarterback room and a deep stable of guys on the DL and at DB.  Charlie's cake wasn't baked but this one looks like it's ready for the oven. No reason that we shouldn't hit the ground running.

The hope is that he wouldn't have to read the room as CDC and co would have made it abundantly clear that rolling up in a clown car with rejects and has-beens would not be accepted as it had been in the past.

Sark is smart enough not to fuck himself before stepping a foot on campus

Why? All he has to do is become a good recruiter and teach solid fundamentals at QB.

From what I read Sark is looking at him as his protege and grooming him for the future.  Sark will be the main play caller and QB coach but he will have to split his duties and trusting your QB coach while you’re attending to other things within the team is huge.

Edited by BurntOrange&White

He is probably the best bagman out there.  Recruited high profile players at UDub and killed it at Bama.  He also has NFL experience on the DL.  He was the lead recruiter for a bunch of Bama stars.... many of which were high profile recruitments like Rueben Foster, Minka Fitzpatrick, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen.

Kinda funny/random that three of those four are on the same NFL team.

Herman probably would have called him “the running back” or some stupid shit till he graduated. Sark seems to actually get it and think this staff will reflect that

Sark doing the little things right as well.

Drayton expected to be retained, per Nahlin.

A given since he’s the Bijan whisperer

The biggest issue with Strong and Herman (and even Mack initially) were buddy comfort hires from their current gig.

But are we OK with that here since Bama is the current gig?

Anwar’s “sources” also say Drayton is staying.

Buddy hires are okay when they are proven coaches. Herman’s and Strong’s were just buddies.

Why?  Do you think Ash is that high on Valai?

He hired him as CB coach at Rutgers when the position opened with short notice, despite no position coaching experience, and hired him at Texas after he coached just one year at Rutgers. Played under Ash. There’s clearly a bit of a protégé thing going on there.

Ifs ok to make some comfort/buddy hires, have to be comfortable...but to fill your entire staff w buddy hires is a problem.

As a general rule, I'm going to assume we should do the opposite of anything Herman thought was a good idea. Especially in terms of player/parent relations.

The reality is there is no one on the current staff that isn’t replaceable, even though some are really great coaches. Yeah I get players and fans wanting certain guys to stay, but there are so many coaches out there, and some that will work with Sark better than others. Additionally some of the coaches may not even want to stay. In many ways, the fresher the start the better as the rot in the program needs to be flushed.

Food for thought...

Urban had success retaining the DC when he took over at both Utah and tOSU,  so it's not always best to get rid of everyone if they're good coaches like Whittingham and Fickell
