I listened to this again this morning, and my favorite part is the credit he gives Bijan and Roschon for helping to change the culture. As if I didn't already love those guys, their work ethic and attitude live on with the younger guys growing up and passing it down to the next bunch. Exactly as it should be. It doesn't seem like we've had that culture of player led accountability since 09.

Thought about and found this comment I made on the original thread when we hired Sark.

https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/18387-sark-after-dark-coaching-staff-thread/?do=findComment&comment=2928129

"I haven't been following our program/recruiting as closely anymore, and I don't know any more about Sarkisian that the average fan. But here's a contrarian take about hiring him.

I kinda like the fact that his career has had some serious bumps. He's always been highly regarded as a coach, but had average success at Washington and USC. Obviously he has some personal demons that affected his career and family as well. But it looks like he's got himself back together. Good for him.

Herman had nothing but success at Ohio State and UH, and he "led" this program with an asshole know-it-all mentality. Maybe we need someone with a sense of humility and who has been through some ups and downs in life.

I don't give a flying fuck what any other opposing program or fan thinks of this hire. I just want results."

Flood came with him to Texas because he believes he's the best play caller in the country.
I like him calling plays. The offensive savants like Andy Reid just fucking do it because they know they are the best at it and it's the most important coaching decisions in the game.
Other than recruiting, I think the order is -
Offensive play calling
DB coaching
OL coaching
Defensive playcalling
DL coaching
Special teams
Game management
Other position groups

We all wish PK scheme wouldn't give up so much passing yards but damn our tackling and clutch plays on D are still great this season.
Going back and watching the Iowa state game their big plays were screens thrown beyond the LOS with linemen blocking 10 yards down the field. Fucking bullshit conference. The OL was even holding a DB on one of the touchdown passes.
Guys are running wide ass open, reverses are almost always big plays, and runs are still gashing the with no Brooks.
Coaching is fine just need to keep upgrading on defense and OL. Injuries tore the secondary up this year we are lucky we are keeping teams under and around 20

The “we hired a guy who built his reputation on being an elite OC/play caller but has shown questionable game management ability, so we should totally have him lean into that weakness throw that strength by the wayside” bit is astounding in both its stupidity and persistence.

As someone who is a month sober after binging for 15 years, this meant a lot. You never truly move past it and bond with people in similar positions. At his very core, he needed help and wants to help. I respect that so much out of a head coach. he is willing to admit his mistakes and that's more than a lot of people can do.

Trying to watch the TCU/douchbag game and Brando is audibly fellating the Sooners.

thank goodness we don’t have to listen to that piece of shit call another Texas game.

This game is really showing off the young talent sark has on the roster. Williams, Manny, Blue, Hill. Coach Sark fucks.

If we get the rematch with OU and stomp their dicks in the dirt (don't worry, they'll dig them up. Sooners never let a good dick go to waste) Sarkisian should be known as Defeats All His Foes Ambrose.

Best post on this site this week (at least)

Sark said in his PC (paraphrasing) that Texas takes a lot of punches from everybody just because we're Texas and it's time for us to punch back. Then he made a comment about that other teams need to remember to not poke the bear.

The biggest thing I've been impressed with down the stretch with this team is when someone goes down, next man up comes in and kicks ass.  Brooks down? well, here's three more dudes that can tote it with no dropoff.  QE goes down?  We won, and I feel great about the future.  Watts down?  Alah akbar and there's a pick. Sanders goes out?  Helm comes in and scores.

That's a great sign of a good program in terms of talent acquisition and development.  And Sark deserves 100% of the credit for that.  I've talked a ton of shit about the guy, but I really underestimated his ability to program build like that.

Im so happy we hired Sark. One hell of a pick up. I love that he wasnt a golden boy like herman. He was flawed coming in and has gotten better every year. The best is still to come. Herman peaked too soon.

Or maybe we should wait until the end of the season just to see what happens.

i lit a fire under his ass.

thank me later

: )

I usually had rah rah shit like Herman's gold teeth and row the boat, but I love that Sark sent Sweat and Murphy out for the coin toss and then made the team listen to Yormark clips in the locker room. This team has a ton of talent, but hasn't consistently played with an edge. That hasn't been a problem the last two weeks.

That's how I feel about the argument that being the full time play caller is somehow unrelated to questionable game management. He's the head coach - game management is his job.

I think we're seeing the fruits of a brilliant offensive mind coupled with high-end talent. And they are sweet indeed.

I agree, but I have significant doubts Steve can ever win a conference, let alone a NC.  Prove me wrong Sark, and then I'll gladly bump this post for the negs.

Steve you magnificent bastard, I’m sorry I ever doubted you. I’m back for the gangbang.

From 5-7 with a bunch of losers, to conference champions with one of the deepest and most talented teams in the nation. Sark is a badass team builder.

THAT’S MY COACH

Thank you Coach Sark for rebuilding our program and winning us the XII Championship. You have proven you’re the top offensive mind in the game and are proving yourself as a top head coach. We are lucky to have you. Let’s win the whole damn thing. Thanks for restoring the pride of the Longhorn Nation.

Sark brought us back from Dante's 7th level of Hell... Fantastic win by a hardworking coach who clearly loves his team... and clearly, they love him. Great to see the good guys pull it out.

I just gotta ask (pretty rhetorically): does Herman ever get us where Sark just got us?

the only place where Herman is getting to where Sark has been is, hopefully, rehab.
