February 21Feb 21 The idea that the a spring game gives tamperers too much of a look doesn't really seem all that big a deal. Maybe it's more that players might be more tamperable because of not getting to play a big role, and looking for that playing time.

Nebraska, Ohio State, Texas, USC and many others to follow wont have one.
February 21Feb 21 I think Matt Ruhle was the first to publicly talk about cancelling the spring game because of concerns with providing film on players with whom other programs could tamper during the spring transfer portal. He and Nebraska are generally whining dick munchers, but I think he has a fair point, and I thought that before Sark made the same move.

I think another, even bigger deal, is the depth chart can signal who won't get much playing time in the fall so schools with needs can poach them, hurting depth and progression.

Good point, and I guess we'll find out after the spring game whether Sark will also hold back any depth chart.
February 21Feb 21 Canceling the game is fine, but I hope they at least show up for the kids to get autographs and all of that bullshit.

Quote However, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte assured the Longhorn faithful during an interview with On Texas Football that there will be a fanfest to replace the game. Del Conte didn't lay out a specific schedule, but did talk about a meet-and-greet with Texas players that will coincide with the baseball team's three-game series against Texas A&M. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/football/2025/02/24/chris-del-conte-texas-football-spring-game-longhorns/80023371007/
February 28Feb 28 Steve Sarkisian on spring game cancellation, Quinn Ewers’ NFL future, NIL & Arch Manning | THE HERD
February 28Feb 28 Reading the Quinn thread, it's degenerated into WTF didn't we see more Arch the last few games... I think it's more apropos here, as more of a coaching question than playing. My main complaint about the last few started with the CCG. Having just been given the blueprint to take down UGa by Haynes King, I was surprised to see Quinn pretty much exclusively right from the start, particularly after Arch had showed what he can do with his legs in the aggy game.

March 1Mar 1 Our HC will be on the NFL Network tomorrow, I think during the wr workouts. Whenever that is.

Yet another simple-minded, binary thinker. Ask aggy how their culture of mercenaries worked out for them.

In this mercenary age of one-and-done portal kids, culture becomes even MORE important. You have to have something to keep these kids around. You have to be able to offer something beyond NIL deals. That's what Stark is trying to do. Yes, Texas has boosters - as all big schools have. It's a delicate dance these days. Tech has boosters. Indiana has boosters. They all have millions upon millions at their disposal. So why are so many ag kids leaving? They have the boosters. It's because of the staff, the school, and the atmosphere around the team.

I think what he is saying without saying it is that you have to have players FIRST (and players are now an expense) or the culture won't matter.
April 1Apr 1 My man love for Sark continues to grow. That guy stands a real good chance of becoming the next dominant college coach aka Saban or Meyer or (lol) Bowden.

April 1Apr 1 So good. A professional coach/motivator/culture guru/whatever running our football program. It'll happen for this program.
April 3Apr 3 Fuck who wouldn’t want to play for this dude. The way he presents himself. And speaks his vision. Damn
April 4Apr 4 Chris Simms interviews Sark. It would be awesome if Texas/Sark did something to honor Chris Simms. "We never sacrifice character for talent." Other interesing bit, Sark accepted the Texas HC job w/out ever visting Austin or UTexas.
April 4Apr 4 "Chris Simms Unbuttoned" and he's wearing a button down dress shirt buttoned to the top . . . and no tie. (JK, I agree it would be nice if Sark could bring Simms back in the fold, our fans treated him like dogshit.)
