Based on the info from this thread it seems like it was all Texas anyway. Sydney mentioned Texas being budget disciplined. Not sure if that's fact or opinion. I choose to believe the former.

Ketch says we’re trending for Baker and it’s a Texas vs tOSU battle, Oregon isn’t a factor anymore.

Post on OB of Ketch saying Brandon Baker is trending very, very well. He received word that Oregon is not an issue and the main competition is maybe Ohio State.

Consider it a Surl CB for Oregon.

Here's EJ Holland's Michigan update from On3 tonight.

Michigan has like 1 DB in their class, so if TFB was to be believed that they made a move for Rubell, kinda interesting that the Michigan guy didn't even mention him.

Still sorta would have liked to see that I think.  If he could have been 80% as good of an edge as he was a TE I think I'd take him as a DE just because of the importance of that position as a lynchpin of the defense.  I think.

"strange" take. he's literally one of the best TE we've had in 20 years, but yes he should have been a DE.

I’d argue him being great at TE is less important to last years team than if he’d been great at DE. But who cares he’s awesome.

Yes, this is the point. I’d take a very good DE over a great TE. I’m happy with either- who gives a shit?

My understanding is we’ve learned some hard budgeting lessons in the last year. The concept that we were being outbid for anyone, specifically Rubell, was all speculation.

As annoying as EJ was, he wasn’t the boring snooze fest Roach is.  I feel like they lost all their listeners on their recruiting podcast bc of how boring that fat fuck is.  Dude would be out of breath just talking.

The services listed him as an athlete. Everyone, everyone knew he was going to be a WR. This has all been addressed up thread. Sanders and Whittington are good examples to refute the notion, however, as has also been pointed out.

Man, y'all dog on Roach too hard. I now he's overly conservative with his picks and as exciting as a bowl of oatmeal, but he seems to genuinely love Texas high school football, cares about the kids, and doesn't embarrass the program by being associated with it. Johntay Cook even had the guy narrate his commitment video.

Dude needs to hit the treadmill but he's better than EJ was.

Put Roach and Boyd together on a podcast and it would spell big trouble for calm.com.

Seriously, this. EJ Holland is a fucking piece of shit, a narcissitic entitled cuntbag who was mediocre at his job at best, and thought he was a superstar. All the while being the sneaker and shit fashion obsessed remora to his doctor wife. I fully expect him to one day go full Dont Worry Darling on his wife. People bag on roach for being obsessed with HS football, but that stupid motherfucker was obsessed with 7 ON 7. He doesn't even like college football. Fuck that guy, and I mean with a fucking morning star that's been dipped in acid.

Roach is boring, but at least theoritically he could be of use to society. Like as a human  shield, or as a flotation device if we were on a plane that went down in the ocean. EJ Holland should be fed to a bear. Black, Brown, Polar, homosexual, whatever.

Morning notes from Gerry

Spoiler

The Texas Longhorns vaulted to the No. 24 ranked class Wednesday night with the commitment of On3 Industry Ranking 4-star center Daniel Cruz.

Cruz became the fifth 4-star and six commitment overall for Steve Sarkisianand staff in June, a month that has seen Texas ascend 24 spots in the class rankings with July expected to be another positive month.

The Longhorns will are awaiting at least two decisions on July 1 in 4-stars Jordon Johnson-Rubell and Parker Livingstone.

Inside Texas delivers the latest intel to get your Thursday started.

Jordon Johnson-Rubell

The 4-star safety out of Fort Worth playing at IMG Academy will announce his decision July 1 at 2 p.m. There was some reporting, apparently now retracted, that Ohio State or Michigan or TCU is making a run and the recruitment could be up in the air. That does not fall in line with what we are hearing at Inside Texas. The Longhorns have only continued to strengthen their position in recent weeks through the official visit.

Johnson-Rubell’s mom lives in the Phoenix area now, but has plenty of family and long time friends in the DFW area. And she has said on more than one occasion that Texas did the best job of presenting the program of any she has been on a visit to with her son throughout the process.

My On3 RPM pick at 75% remains unchanged.

Brandon Baker and Texas

The Texas Longhorns continue to work from a position of strength in the recruitment of No. 1 ranked offensive tackle and 5-star Brandon Baker. The Texas staff has had multiple very positive conversations since Sunday with Baker and family. Texas has the feeling of home for Baker, which is always so impactful in the decision making process. There is a strong Southern California presence at Texas, and there will continue to be one under Sarkisian. There are also distant family connections too in Tausili Akana.

If Texas doesn’t lead outright, there are at least tied at the top of the list.

The question is who else is at the top competing with Texas. Oregon has slipped some in the recruitment, but has talked to Baker this week too. The Ducks not getting a June official visit was the first sign of slippage (see Colin Simmons recruitment).

The Ohio State visit was a very positive one. Georgia is not thought to be the eventual destination due to being too far and with tough travel to get to Athens for the family.

Defensive line recruiting intel

Going to give a quick rundown of some top defensive line prospects on the board.

Texas continues to be be top 2 along with Auburn for 4-star T.J. Lindsey. The 6-foot-4, 268-pounder is very likely to announce a decision prior to reporting to IMG Academy July 20. Texas A&M and Miami remain in the mix somewhere. Lindsey will graduate from high school in December.

Ole Miss is working to make a strong run at Melvin Hills. With that said, Texas remains in the best position to land the 6-foot-4, 275-pounder on July 12.

The battle remains Texas and Auburn for undervalued defensive lineman Malik Blocton. This will come down to if the 6-foot-3, 275-pounder wants to take his own path and get away from home for college.

Jayden Jackson’s recruitment is a wildcard at this point. NIL is a major factor in this one. The 6-foot-1.5, 295-pounder left Texas with the Longhorns, Ohio State and Oklahoma the top three. One source close to the recruitment told IT Monday that he thought the eventual decision would come down to Ohio State vs. Texas. It’s tough to count out anyone in a recruitment that could boil down to NIL. That means Miami and Florida could still be a factor. Jackson and Texas have remained in constant communication since the visit.

I hope we secure Rubell as i think he would help us land Corian Gipson.  Also, because Rubell is a damn good player as well.

This is the kind of highly scientific research that I think we should be funding as a society. Most painful and humiliating ways for EJ Holland to die.

Georgia is apparently going to land like 5 OTs not including Baker. Absurd.

Texas apparently decided Uini wasn’t worth the effort in May, as did OU. Bizarre.

If that’s how you think he should go, then you should look up the Enumclaw horse case. EJ seems like a prime candidate for another occurrence.

Unless the consideration is flying into Columbus v flying into Atlanta and driving to Athens, this is a really weird reason.

OSU told him to fuck off, is what I presume, following the visit to us after the "silent commit".
