Or just take the inverse of the Looch 44 and use that as the only rating

Ya think? We’d have guys on here arguing for Sawyer Goram Welch to be a 5 star (he’s a JJ Watt starter kit!)

Definitely a 6-Star, if we're judging by how cool a name sounds.

oh man, i think the answer is either to make everyone 6 stars as a joke or use the on3 composite (which is probably better)

Gerry Hamilton: Decision date set for four-star DB Corian Gipson

Quote

One of the top targets for Steve Sarkisian, Pete Kwiatkowski, and Terry Joseph this cycle, will announce his decision at the end of July. 2024 Lancaster (Texas) defensive back and On3 Industry Ranking four-star Corian Gipson will reveal his commitment at 4 p.m. on July 22 at Lancaster High School. Gipson took official visits to Clemson, Ohio State, and Texas during June. He saw Clemson, S.C. on June 2, visited the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio on June 16, and came through Austin, Texas on June 23 to celebrate his birthday with an official visit. He had a trip planned to Alabama, but elected not to see Tuscaloosa.

Gipson is ranked as the No. 69 overall prospect, the No. 8 cornerback, and the No. 14 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. On3 ranks Gipson as the No. 67 overall prospect, the No. 9 cornerback, and the No. 14 player in Texas. Texas has a 95.5% chance of landing Gipson, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

On3 Scouting Profile

Smooth defensive back with the speed and skills to play multiple spots in the secondary. Has a thin build, checking in at around 6-feet, 165 pounds with a 6-foot-2.5 wing-span at the Under Armour Dallas camp prior to his senior season. Turns in strong marks as a sprinter in track and field. Consistently runs sub 11 seconds in the 100 meters, with a personal best of 10.62 seconds as a junior. Has lined up at both corner and safety for Lancaster, but is starting to look more and more like a cornerback prospect as his career progresses. At ease covering outside or in the slot. Has relatively refined footwork in coverage. Transitions easily. Shows the top end speed to run with receivers on vertical routes. Triggers quickly in defending underneath routes. Will need to tack on considerable mass to his thin frame. Did not have a ton of ball production as a junior.

On3 Personal Life file

Leon Paul has been around some talented players during his time as a coach at both Duncanville and Lancaster. But he says Corian Gipson ranks at the top of the list of players that he’s ever worked with. “He’s one of the best, if not the best that I’ve ever coached or been around,” Paul told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “I’ve coached some good ones. At Duncanville, we had Stacy Brown (Missouri), Chris Thompson (USC), Ennis Rakestraw (Missouri) to name a few, and he’s at the top of the list because he’s so dynamic.” Gipson is also one of the top sprinters in the Metroplex and is part of a 4×100-meter relay team that clocked a 41.74-second time in the spring of 2022. He also has a personal-best 100 time of 10.73 seconds and runs the 4×200 and 4X400 for Lancaster.

Gipson has all Clemson picks on 247 and all Texas on On3 and most on Rivals.

So the idea is once they sign their NLI I'll add the tag of 2024 Recruit or something else we deem surly enough to mark them as really actually committed.
This will let us keep track of the flakers. or who's left that didn't do early signing that is verbal already.

Stars are fixed and up - do we want our own star rating or do we want to just inherit the composite rating? I feel like if we do our own ratings it will just turn into everyone being a 5 star lol.

I did look into the boner excitement chart as the icons for the stars, unfortunately they are all uniform and its not possible lol.

I also want to take recommendations to what people want to see on that landing page (the article page is whatever - I'm gonna template those later on myself)

There's no point in doing this if you can't use the boner excitement chart icons.

The Huddle: Scatter-shooting recruiting notes

— Tomorrow Daingerfield athlete Aeryn Hampton will announce his commitment from a final two of Alabama and Texas after taking official visits to Austin and Tuscaloosa. 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Mike Roach previewed the four-star's commitment earlier today with quotes from the State 7on7 tournament last weekend, where the feeling started to shift from a slight Alabama lean towards the Longhorns.

It's rare for a prospect to decommit from a school (which Hampton did from Texas in late November of 2022) and end up recommitting but Hampton has a chance to do exactly that tomorrow with growing confidence in him selecting the Longhorns from Texas sources. While there is confidence from sources we speak to, I'm fairly gun-shy about reporting with any sort of certainty about Hampton's decision. From his December 2021 commitment to Baylor until now there really hasn't been more of a wildcard recruitment than Hampton, so if he somehow selected a school outside of the top two of Alabama and Texas I wouldn't remotely be surprised. However, with those necessary caveats added I should mention that the lead up to tomorrow's announcements has been pretty quiet behind the scenes which is a good sign for Texas.

— Sam Spiegelman first reported earlier today that Lancaster defensive back Corian Gipson has a decision date set for July 22nd in the Lancaster Gymnasium in front of family, friends, teammates, and the media. Horns247 confirmed that report and I recently spoke with a source on the Texas side who continues to feel optimistic about where the Longhorns stand for the priority target. While the Texas side has been confident even before a fantastic final official visit experience during the final weekend of June, both Ohio State and Clemson are similarly confident that they're the team to beat for the Southern Sector of DFW prospect. Gipson has three crystal balls entered for Clemson from early June when the Top247 DB nearly went public with a commitment to the Tigers.

I like On3’s composite rankings because they publish their own rankings, ESPN, 247, and Rivals in a clean interface.

The jury is still out if On3 rankings are the best, but they only really need to a little better than 247 to succeed.

I want to see an @immamac 69. First shitty aggy commit ranking, and the red asses will threaten to kill him online. I’d like to see their faces when they figure out he’s also an aggy.

On3 composite is the best....247 refuses to factor On3 into their composite score so therefore that data is skewed.

I think 247 started factoring in On3 a while back.

I’m no Mike Roach here. The reality is that it’s looking like Blocton has told both camps that he’s going to commit to them, or, at least, that’s how I’m reading it. The Auburn guys are inferring a lot and it isn’t clear how closely they’re communicating with the Auburn staff, so maybe they’re just playing the odds on their end.

If I’m wrong in my insistence on him coming to Texas, I’ll at least be entertained by vitriol headed my direction here.

(Justin Wells) Recruiting Humidor: Latest on 2024 targets, upcoming decisions

Quote

Inside Texas takes a closer look at a handful of priority 2024 prospects and decision dates for Texas targets in Friday’s Recruiting Humidor.

Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally

Texas and the On3 Industry Ranking five-star continue to build and get closer. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is looking at official visits to Alabama and LSU during the season, but there’s a chance he might announce his decision before those dates. Black has a good idea of where he’d like to attend, but wants to make sure during the process. Black is in no hurry, but hasn’t shot down the idea of making a decision this summer. From academics, to defensive impact, to early playing time, Texas offers so many attributes that Black desires. Proximity is another small factor. Black still works out with former Connally teammate and Texas linebacker Jelani McDonald, as the two remain close friends.

Corian Gipson, DB, Lancaster (Texas)

Confidence continues to be high in Austin around On3 4-star Corian Gipson. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder will announce his decision July 22 at 4 p.m. Central at Lancaster High. Texas is considered the favorite over Clemson with TCU and Ohio State on the peripheral. Gipson and family have remained in consistent communication with Sarkisian and Terry Joseph since the June 23-25 official visit. The Longhorns dominance along I-20 should not be underestimated if Gipson chooses the Longhorns in two weeks.

Aeryn Hampton, WR/ATH, Daingerfield (Texas)

The On3 Industry Ranking 4-star and No. 138 overall prospect is considered a lean to Texas over Alabama, as of Friday morning. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way playmaker is scheduled to announce his commitment around 5 p.m. Central time today. Hampton has had multiple conversations with Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and staff this week. Alabama had some confidence early in the week, but that has waned since Thursday morning. If Hampton commits to Texas, he would become a rare prospect to de-commit from a school, and commit back to the same school.

Malik Blocton, DL, Pike Road (Ala.)

The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder is scheduled to announce between Texas and Auburn on Saturday, July 8, with the announcement happening around 3 p.m. Central. Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis and Blocton have been in contact all week, including Friday morning. Should Blocton pick Texas Saturday, the ability to compete early with Texas likely to lose three interior lineman, the chance to carve his own path, and Texas moving to the SEC will be big reasons for the decision. Blocton’s mom has signed off on Texas, if he makes that decision. Blocton’s lone June official visit was to Texas.

Melvin Hills, DL, Lafayette (La.) Lafayette Christian Academy

Texas continues to lead Ole Miss for the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder headed into his July 12 announcement. LSU has also remained in contact, as has Auburn. Barring a major change, however, this will be a Texas or Ole Miss decision. Hills has been in contact with Steve Sarkisian and Bo Davis this week, and is also in contact with various Texas commitments in the class and players on the Longhorns team. Should Hills pick Texas, it will be the combination of football and academics as a big reason. Plus the work of Bo Davis and the move to the SEC.

D’Antre Robinson, DL, Orlando (Fla.) Jones

Texas continues to be the favorite land the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Sunshine State defensive lineman. In fact, On3’s Florida Gators site says the communication between Robinson and the Florida staff has been spotty in the last week or so. That’s not the case with Texas. Robinson has been in consistent communication with Bo Davis and Tashard Choice.
