Is this considered kind of down year in state?

Only 5 players in the top 50 in state? Thanks in advance.

Here's a couple interesting to me comparisons:

Top 10 Comparison
  2023 2024
5*s 6 4
#10 Rating 0.971 0.9606  (in '23, #15 was rated .9606)
#10 Natl. Ranking 62 73

At first glance, pretty close, especially since Cook became a composite 5* late in the cycle and Owens almost dropped out.

I don't think that the top of the in-state class is as strong as it has been in the past, but we're also working with incomplete data. This could be a super deep class, but without personally watching a zillion hudls, we don't really know. The covid driven, in-person evaluation ban was in place from 3/13/20 - 6/1/21 which had an enormous and obvious impact on the '22 and '23 classes. While '24s have not had "traditional" opportunities to be evaluated taken from them, services and college staffs spent more time on the previous two classes after the ban was lifted, which was imo, at the expense of a full and complete eval of the '24s.

247/on3/Rivals/.........ESPN wouldn't even have a combined headcount that would support evaluating all of the prospects worth evaluating and rating. There are other factors at play here for why a hs prospect may be underrecruited and invisible to the services like saving hs offers for the portal and roster count ambiguity, but we may be looking at a new, shortened timeline of interest for any given class. Despite our collective interest in a 1k class thread of meltdowns, I'm all for a more focused coverage of a prospect cycle. Makes it a lot easier to follow, and I don't spend any time watching the highlights of some unranked Freshman DL from Olney who will absolutely never get an offer.

i posted some of this on 12/27 here: copy/paste job below

tl;DR: Texas has fewer 24 players in the top 25, 50, 75 (all pretty close) then it falls off the map. 21 vs 15 in the top 100, 36 vs 29 in the top 200, 45 vs 34 in the top 250.

Not particularly strong at OL and interior DL. Has some good skill players but the overall depth right now isn't like some previous years.

The only composite 4* DL in Texas are Nigel Smith (haven't heard much about him and Texas), the kid committed to aggy, Daelyn Evans, and Caleb Mitchell-Irving (again, another haven't heard much about).  Then you have January, who should be a 4* IMO (Georgia offered back during the season).  Looks like Bo's gonna' have to get us somebody OOS.

On OL, Uini is highly rated (didn't someone on here who's seen him play say he wasn't impressed?).  Cruz seems like a guy who will shoot up the rankings and he's the #1 IOL on the board.  Ory Williams is a 4* and probably a good bet to end up in the class.  Think they like the OL from the same school as Sydir Mitchell.

Also, doesn't sound like Simmons will be at Jr Day.

Hasn't hurt his offer list one bit.

Me.

He’s huge. If I were rating his play, he’d be a 3-star, and that’s taking into account his size and potential. He can certainly improve. He isn’t a complete mess, he just isn’t technically sound at all.

He’s better at this stage than JPU, but I made my thoughts clear on him back then. .

It’s a weaker class in-state, but this is the first year that Texas gets to guarantee each recruit that they will play each season in the SEC. If ATM continues to be mediocre, I think that helps Texas land a higher percentage of in-state highly ranked recruits than it has in years.

Did you get any new info on our departure date?

Doesnt seem like a Flood type kid.

Neither did Goosby but guys with tackle traits who can bend and move well don't have to be 330 pounds.

The 2023 OL class was going to be some development guys, so that was not surprising. It will be interesting to see the direction he goes with this class, now that there is some space between the 2022s

We just offered someone from Conneticut.

*Connecticut

Thought for sure we were going to get a commitment from this kid. I guess we will have to adjust and find another safety target.

Wish this kid all the best at Georgia. Is there talk of him reclassifying? Seems odd to be committing at an AA game as a junior.

Biggins is a pretty good west coast mod IMO, but it he was saying Moore was sticking with Louisville about a day before he flipped, so who knows where this kid is going.

Gerry changed his pick to Georgia for Woodyard

We weren't in Woodyard's initial top group, so this always seemed a bit unlikely.

Actually a pretty good group of Safety's in-state this class.  Gipson, Hardy, Johnson-Rubell, and the Duncanville kid are all highly rated.  Gipson and the Duncanville kid are visiting the 21st.  Most of these guys right now are a bit on the smaller side, but we need some speed on the backend.  Also have offers out to Landyn Cleveland and David Kabongo in-state as well.
