I'm about to hit my mid 40's. I'm pretty sure we all struggle with various aspects of time at this point.

Or we could just leave the thread title as is, instead of tacking on some tryhard attempt at humour like when RC Didn't Offer became 🤫 $9.95 🤫

...why is that still a thing, anyway? Carrington is long gone.

On3 is continuing to favour A&M's class and downgrade ours (we have just 7, by way of comparison)

if it makes you feel any better, A&M have 11 on3 consensus commits out of 21 (and another one who is 302) - 52.38% of their class

Texas has 9 out of 17 - 52.94% of their class.

This thread reads like our first qtr offense

The Stampede: Resetting the recruiting board ahead of Big 12 play
HORNS247 STAFF

After taking down Wyoming to move to 3-0 for the first time since 2012, the Texas Longhorns currently sit as the No. 3 team in the AP poll with several priority targets still left on the board as Steve Sarkisian and Co. look to raise their overall recruiting class rank from No. 17 to top five for the third consecutive recruiting cycle in a row.

Having landed the majority of the class throughout the summer months, the Longhorns staff currently has 17 commits and will aim to utilize the remaining three months of the 2024 recruiting cycle to close on their top targets, just as they’ve done before in the previous two cycles.

Who are some of the most important recruits left on the board for Texas and where do the Longhorns stand with them?

In this week’s edition of The Stampede, Horns247’s weekly gathering of recruiting intel, we reset the board as we’re just over three months away from early signing day on Dec. 20th.

QUARTERBACK
Commits: Trey Owens, Cy-Fair

The longest tenured commit of the class, the Longhorns landed Cy-Fair 2024 three-star quarterback Trey Owens back in January and the Texas pledge has yet to waver on his commitment to the Longhorns. Since joining the class at the beginning of the year, no Texas commit has done more work peer recruiting than Owens has, and it’s paid off as behind the scenes he’s played a big role in how the class has filled out so far. The 6-foot-5, 205 pounder is a great fit for the Longhorns offense and an ideal take for AJ Milwee and Steve Sarkisian given the room currently on the Forty Acres. Depending on a multitude of things, the staff could potentially decide to pursue a second prospect either from the high school ranks or the NCAA transfer portal but as of now that doesn’t seem like it’d be a possibility but it has the chance to be worth monitoring once we get closer to the winter transfer portal window. With all of that being said, the staff have their guy and are confident in him and the feelings go both ways.

(Jordan Scruggs)

RUNNING BACK
Commits: Jerrick Gibson, IMG Academy (FL.) | Christian Clark, Mountain Pointe (AZ.)

Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice did the unthinkable twice after he went into the sunshine state a second time and landed a commitment from his number one target for the second year in a row after the Longhorns landed Jerrick Gibson’s pledge back in June. Just two days prior to reeling in Gibson, Choice landed Arizona native and Mountain Pointe composite four-star Christian Clark who with Gibson should provide a more than solid one-two punch for Longhorns fans for years to come. Having visited Florida this past weekend for the Gators upset win over Tennessee, Gibson is still in contact with several other programs but the communication level between the four-star and Choice remains higher than ever. We’ll continue to monitor both backs over the next three months but as of right now we’re not expecting either back to change their stance on their pledge to the Longhorns.

(Jordan Scruggs)

TIGHT END

Jordan Washington (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)
Commits: Jordan Washington, Houston Langham Creek

Similar to AJ Milwee and Tashard Choice, Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks wrapped up his work for this year's cycle midway through the summer after the Longhorns landed Houston Langham Creek’s Jordan Washington. While Banks would’ve preferred to take two tight ends this cycle just as the Longhorns did last cycle, the staff feels like they found themselves a hidden gem in Washington as the 6-foot-4, 225 pounder meets all the height, weight, measurements, and athleticism factors that often create a prospect with an immense ceiling, which Washington has. On the same note of Banks originally wanting two tight ends in this class, it’s worth noting the reasoning is because the Longhorns will have to replace JT Sanders after this season and with no great options left to fill the hole that will be left, I’m expecting Texas to dip into the portal again and at least look around but likely land one of the higher profile tight end’s on the market once the window opens in November. As of right now I’m neither expecting Washington to start looking elsewhere and Banks to pursue another high school tight end, although I could see the latter part being a possibility if an in-state tight end emerges as a senior eval candidate similar to how LSU freshman tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton did this past fall.

(Jordan Scruggs)

WIDE RECEIVER
Commits: Freddie Dubose, Smithson Valley | Parker Livingstone, Lucas Lovejoy

Texas has two true wide receivers committed in Parker Livingstone and Freddie Dubose (three if you factor in athlete Aeryn Hampton). Steve Sarkisian and company are trying to add at least one more to a group that will be tasked with replacing some top-tier talent on the Forty Acres.

Ryan Wingo, 5-star WR, St. Louis (Mo.) St. Louis University

Wingo is the main target of note at the wide receiver position still left on the board. The 247Sports Top 10 overall prospect was back on campus this past weekend for the Wyoming game, a trip he told Horns247 helped UT’s chances. The Longhorns are trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball at 83.3 percent, with Texas predictions from both myself and Jordan Scruggs. Mizzou is the main school of note in Texas’ way, but sources continue to feel optimistic that Texas is the team to beat. Wingo has tentatively circled Dec. 20 for his announcement date, but admitted it could come at any time.

Micah Hudson, 5-star WR, Lake Belton (Texas) — Texas Tech commit

Hudson announced his commitment to Texas Tech last week, breathing life into a Red Raiders program that started the season 0-2. That hasn’t ceased efforts on Texas’ end, though. The staff continues to communicate with the Central Texas standout in hopes of keeping the door open on a possible flip. A change in commitment status looks unlikely as things stand now, but he’s still worth noting considering the Longhorns’ interest.

(Hank South)

OFFENSIVE LINE
Commits: Daniel Cruz, IOL, Richland | Nate Kibble, IOL, Humble Atascocita

Kyle Flood has two commitments in the class already with Richland’s Daniel Cruz and Atascocita’s Nate Kibble. Like Chris Jackson, Flood’s landing of the two offensive line commits in the summer gave the ability for the Texas offensive line coach to focus on finishing off his group with a top prospect as the Longhorns are currently in great position with 247Sports’ No. 1 ranked offensive tackle and Mater Dei five-star Brandon Baker, who will announce his commitment live on the 247Sports Youtube Channel on Sunday Sept. 24 at 8:00 PM CT, which happens to be his 18th birthday. The five-star is down to the Longhorns, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Oregon and took his last trip ahead of the decision to Nebraska this past weekend for an official visit. There have yet to be any 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions entered in for Baker but I wanted to mention that Hank and I are both close to putting in predictions in favor of Texas and that we’ll have more stuff on Baker as we get closer to decision day. Flood and Texas would absolutely love to flip four-star Texas A&M offensive tackle commit Weston Davis and the two parties have been in communication as of late, but for me to view it as more of a possibility I’d like to see Davis make it to the Forty Acres first.

(Jordan Scruggs)

DEFENSIVE LINE

Solomon Williams (Photo: Gaby Urrutia, 247Sports)
Commits: Colin Simmons, EDGE, Duncanville | Zina Umeozulu, EDGE, Duncanville | Alex January, DL, Duncanville | Melvin Hills, DL, Lafayette Christian Academy (LA.) | D'Antre Robinson, DL, Orlando Jones (FL.)

The Longhorns have put together a quality defensive front in the class of 2024 thus far, adding three linemen in D’antre Robinson, Melvin Hills, and Alex January, along with five-star edge Colin Simmons and four-star pass rusher Zina Umeozulu. The Texas defense pass rush has come alive through three games this season, with guys like Ethan Burke, Barryn Sorrell and even Anthony Hill Jr., among others, getting in on the action. Texas would like to keep that trend going entering the SEC. A few names of note remain under consideration.

Dominick McKinley, 4-star DL, Lafayette (La.) Acadiana — Texas A&M commit

Texas had the momentum in the summer for the Bayou State native but Texas A&M surged late, landing the elite defensive lineman earlier this month. McKinley, we’re told, put a pause on recruiting after his announcement, so it’s to be determined how involved programs not named Texas A&M will stay. McKinley’s mother had told Horns247 prior to their Aggies commitment that they would like to see a game at DKR this fall. We’ll keep McKinley in the back pocket of coverage for now.

Solomon Williams, 4-star edge, Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day

Williams was all set to officially visit Texas this past weekend, but had to call the trip off last second for personal reasons. The Sunshine State pass rusher could still make it back to campus this fall, possibly for the Kansas game. Williams took a two-day unofficial visit to Austin at the end of July, so he’s familiar with the layout. Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Clemson round out Williams’ top five.

Danny Okoye, 4-star edge, Tulsa (Okla.) NOAH Homeschool

Okoye will announce a decision this week between Texas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. The Sooners are trending for their local edge rusher. It’s a recruitment that’s gone back and forth the last few months. Texas, Okoye’s only official visit in the summer, was a popular pick back then. The Vols then emerged as a serious threat. And now OU appears in strong position to land the 6-foot-4, 241-pounder on Wednesday.

(Hank South)

LINEBACKER
Commits: N/A

The only position in the Longhorns recruiting class without a commitment at this point, linebacker recruiting has moved slower for Texas than any other position group has this cycle, and for multiple reasons. Similar to how it’s nearly impossible to stack top quarterback prospects in back to back cycles, not a lot of linebacker prospects view the current linebacker situation at Texas as desirable due to how crowded and talented it currently is after taking last year's haul. At times throughout the cycle the Longhorns appeared to be in it for Justin Williams, Payton Pierce, and Tyanthony Smith, only for all three of them to choose elsewhere when it came to decision time. Kamar Mothudi, Dylan Williams, Khmori House, and Montay Weedon are all names who expressed major interest in the Longhorns this summer, but as official visit season came and went, not a single one of those names made it to Austin, although not because of the prospects interest level in the Longhorns. At this point in time the board for the one linebacker spot in the class remains wide open but I’m expecting the Longhorns to start making moves to fill it in the next few weeks. Of the group of Williams, Pierce, and Smith, Texas has the best shot with Smith and have been in contact lately, but for me to be feel better about the Longhorns chances there I’d like to see the Texas A&M commit make it to campus again as he Smith hasn’t been to Austin since March. On the flip side a senior eval is also quite a possibility, as are the chances of the Longhorns deciding to instead attack the transfer portal to fill the position.

(Jordan Scruggs)

CORNERBACK
Commits: Santana WilsonSantana Wilson, Desert Mountain (AZ.) | Aeryn Hampton, Daingerfield

Cornerback is an area Texas wants to close strong at to add to a class that currently contains guys like Santana Wilson and Aeryn Hampton. Luckily for the Longhorns some big-time names remain in play to add to the fold.

Kobe Black, 5-star CB, Waco (Texas) Connally

Texas, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas A&M makeup the Top 5 for Black. It’s the Longhorns that are believed to be the team to beat as things stand. When an announcement could be made remains up in the air, though. Black intends to get back to Austin for a game this fall. Black’s older brother, Korie, plays at Oklahoma State, so the family travels to Stillwater to see him play as well.

Wardell Mack, 4-star CB, Marrero (La.) John Ehret — Florida commit

Texas hasn’t let up in its efforts to land the Gators pledge. In fact, as Horns247 reported a couple weeks ago, there remains optimism in Austin that a flip is possible. Mack was back in Gainesville this past weekend to see UF’s win over Tennessee, so there’s likely some renewed Florida love happening right now. This will continue to play out throughout the season, though. Mack is likely to visit Austin for a game at some point. He already used his official visit to Texas in June.

Corian Gipson, 4-star CB, Lancaster (Texas) — Clemson commit

Clemson had a rough start to the season falling to Duke. The Tigers have since won their last two games. Gipson hasn’t shown any signs of wavering from the Tigers program yet. Dabo Swinney also has a no-visit policy once you commit to the Clemson program, so there’s no trips elsewhere currently expected. 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong recently noted not to rule out the Longhorns in their pursuit of flipping the Tigers pledge.

(Hank South)

SAFETY

Jordon Johnson-Rubell (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)
Commits: Jordon Johnson-Rubell, IMG Academy (FL.)

The Longhorns added one of their longest tenured targets in IMG Academy four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell back on July 1 and have been looking to add another safety to the defensive backfield commit class since. Lancaster four-star and Clemson commit Corian Gipson is still reciprocating contact with Texas and is expected to be recruited by the Longhorns till he puts pen to paper on early signing day. Like Tyanthony Smith, for me to like the Longhorns chances of pulling off a flip I’d like to see Gipson make a return to the Forty Acres, however that could be a pretty sticky situation due to the rules set in place by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney in which Clemson commits aren’t supposed to take visits elsewhere while committed to the Tigers. Texas is also still in contact with Texas A&M commit Myles Davis and while I think a flip of Davis is more likely than a flip of Gipson, a visit will need to happen to make the chances likelier. Fort Bend Marshall three-star Joshua Lair is down to a final three of Baylor, Texas, and Washington and will commit next Sunday on Sept. 24. Lair’s last visit before committing came last week when the three-star took an official trip to Washington, but Texas has maintained steady communication levels with Lair and his family since May. With that being said, Lair is one of the harder prospects to get a read on and I’m looking forward to finding out more and more information as we get closer to the decision.

Blue-Chip Buzz: Florida impresses No. 1 safety; Mizzou trying to close ground on 5-star; Latest on two top OTs

Steve Wiltfong (247 Sports)

Whenever you get an environment like the one Florida had on Saturday night, an atmosphere that certainly helped the Gators defeat then-No. 11 Tennessee 29-16 in prime time, it resonates with recruits. That was the case with Tampa (Fla.) Plant Top247 running back Waltez Clark, who announced his commitment to head coach Billy Napier and his staff after the game.

He was the program’s top target at the position, the first commit for UF in the junior class. He won’t be the last among the 2025s that were in town experiencing the biggest win of the Napier era.

Who else could Florida be trending with?

No question the No. 1 safety in the 2025 class DJ Pickett and his family enjoyed it.

"Florida game was amazing," Damien Pickett, the father of the top-ranked safety, said. "Florida has an incredible fanbase. And to see a freshman (Jordan Castell) get so much playing time was good to see. We will be back. It was very big for recruiting. Say what you want, but these boys want to play for a winner."

That was the big question mark on Florida as Pickett strongly considers a future in Gainesville alongside Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Miami, among others. He has been to campus numerous times, likes the track record of Corey Raymond, has clicked with Napier and company, but a win like this one could go a long way to landing Pickett.

Talking to folks around Florida that spent time with Pickett, he’s saying the right things about where they stand with him.

Five-star WR Ryan Wingo to catch the Mizzou game

Fresh off his return visit to Texas this past weekend, one where the Longhorns continue to impress, the St. Louis University five-star will catch Missouri take on Memphis inside The Dome at America’s Center in a neutral site game just five minutes from his house.

While the Longhorns still lead, undefeated Mizzou has a runway to make a move and Eliah Drinkwitz and company will look to keep it rolling on Saturday night with their most coveted remaining target in the 2024 cycle on-hand.

I do believe Wingo will make it back to Columbia one more time before deciding as well. There is plenty of opportunity for Missouri to close whatever gap there is between them and the Burnt Orange.

Still like Texas for another five-star

Unless Ohio State (or Nebraska or Oregon) can change the pulse, it still looks to be setting up nicely for the Longhorns regarding Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star Brandon Baker entering his Sunday commitment.

Baker is 247Sports’ No. 1 offensive tackle.

Still like the Irish for a target

Notre Dame is about done recruiting the 2024 class, sitting on 22 commits with just a couple spots to fill.

Still like where they stand with West Roxbury (Mass.) Top247 offensive tackle Guerby Lambert.

There was some chatter that Boston College was perhaps gaining ground on the Irish, but sources continue to indicate ND is in the driver seat.

247Sports ranks Lambert as the nation’s No. 8 offensive tackle.

Wingo is wasting money, right now, if he plans on going to Missouri and hasn't committed.
