Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls

Featured Replies

Wingo committed last weekend. Black committed in July or August, can't remember. Texas will keep recruiting both like nothing can be taken for granted, but there is a lot of focus on getting guys committed to other schools and just letting some things play out.
We've talked about Texas circling back on various DBs as the season moves forward. At this point, I think Myles Davis and Wardell Mack are going to get more attention than Gipson for various reasons. If ATM or Florida collapses in ways that either program could, that would be the guy I'd pick as the favorite.

Gerry has mentioned this a few times - but props to the Richland coaching staff for playing Cruz at C.  Generally a 4 star OL prospect like Cruz would be playing Tackle for his high school team but the Richland staff knows Cruz's future is at C so they're playing him there this year so he can get that experience before heading off to Texas

Per some Florida On3 guy D'Antre told Florida he was going to come back for another game while he was on the visit but as of last night D'Antre told the same person he doesn't know if he'll make another game.

I love how he demolishes a kid and then helps him up like he had nothing to do with it.

I saw Banks murder a guy on his hudl, so tell Cruz to step up his game.

This. It's gotta be humiliating for the same guy to plant you in the turf, belly flop onto you and then give you a hand up.

No one.  That's their prediction 'algorithm'.  All of the RPM's from, presumably, living analysts, are for aggy.

When kids take visits that data point goes into the algorithm. Last year, when Abmas visited KSU 1st, they were like 95% likely to get him, because that was the only visit he had taken.

I remember playing Kilgore as a junior (believe they were undefeated, defending state champs), they were up a few scores on us in the 4th and our brilliant defensive coordinator decided to call the same B gap blitz from the linebacker spot like 15 plays in row. Michael fucking Huey was their guard, and that mother fucker stoned me and tossed me down/aside basically every single time. He didn't help me up once, but he did lean down and tell me that I should just give up (he was right).

All the more humiliating when that guy became a punching bag for the fans in 09/10.

This is the culmination of what we were told this summer, that Sark and staff believe they were going to have a very good team and were wagering a lot, recruiting-wise, that they would get a huge return on that strategy if the team turned out to be as good as they thought it would be.

Sark knows that it Texas hits it out of the park on the field this year it's going to be katy bar the door re: recruits wanting to commit.

The play that begins at :24 ... when it's over it looks like Cruz is standing over that poor kid and saying "I'm going to pick you up off the ground but don't you bring that weak shit in my house anymore."  And the kid was whimpering and saying "Please don't hurt me, mister!"  That was public child abuse.

What's funny about the second play in particular is that you can see Cruz look at the guy before the snap like he's thinking - "This motherfuckers' soul is about to leave his body."

Not to mention carrying over into the winter/spring/summer for the 25' class, which is absolutely loaded in-state.

Sounds like the kid is maybe trying to find reasons to stay close to home. That's fine, kid. Shit or get off the pot so that everyone can move on accordingly. Quit being an idiot.

As on Olineman, I love how you can't hold a player but if you knock his ass down, you can fly off the top tight rope and land on him to make sure he stays down.

Cruz is doling out lessons.

Physics lesson: here's an example of mass and inertia.

Life lesson: here's what happens when you get in a tangle with a man who outweighs you by 80 pounds.

This young man believes in being thorough about his work and playing to the echo of the whistle.

My high school coach called that finishing move "goring them when they are down" which seems particularly appropriate for a future Horn

Maybe the kid likes getting $500 to $1,000 to go to football games where he is treated like a VIP.

That short term $$ and fun can be very enticing to anyone, much less a 17 year-old who thinks that he can sneak out of the house without his parents knowing about it.

My guess is that he is/was having a difficult time processing that actions can have consequences when money & fun are being dangled in his face several states away from where “his football parents” are at the moment.

that’s the Kyle Porter guarantee!

Regarding Cruz, when does he start pushing for the starting gig? I could see Majors playing a 6th year at Texas easily. Hell, Christian Jones did and he probably have been drafted.
