The trick to getting your groceries bagged correctly is to put them on the conveyor belt in the order that they should be bagged.  It’s your fault the groceries aren’t getting bagged correctly.

Even my 9 YO knows to put the crushable items - bananas, bread, chips, etc. last on the conveyor belt.

Client... Love them, hate em.

Working with an Aussie team. They bitched about the last draft about things we do not use in the US model for development. What they wanted would violate rules for DEIA (Happy Juneteenth folks), and I said no.

Waking up my phone is going off. All small things that are easy fixes. Was tired, had not had a coffee and yeah, it came out. "Sir, how is the HMAS Koala going?" What he says. "Well Sir, maybe if the Aussie way was so perfect you would have a fucking nuclear carrier and not need ours to guard against invasion from Papua New Guinea."

Wrong approach? Yes. Do I feel better? Yes.

The disembodied voice in one of the rotating loudspeaker announcements at ORD pronounces the word "ro-TAHN-da" rather than "ro-TUN-da" and it irritates me every 10 minutes or so whenever I'm there.

We workshopped this when I lived there and voted for, "You Guys in the circle thing there!"  But they got all fancy and went with Ro-TAHN-da, as you say.

I don't know if it's computer generated, but most airports must use one of a handful of generic (but commanding while pleasant) voice over their PA's.  But last time I arrived at JFK, holy shit.  You can literally hear the woman smacking gum while she lectures you with her fucking Long Island accent from a bad sitcom.

My wife went to Discount Tires to get new tires last week.  She said the entire line was held up by a Karen that was complaining - for 20 minutes - about a quote.  Not the price she had to pay, but a quote.  Fast forward to yesterday.  We're 2 suburbs away (about 20 miles) in Rockwall.  She sees the EXACT same lady at the counter throwing a fit about her guacamole.  She apparently brought the young, cashier girl to tears.  My wife did speak to the cashier and manager after the incident to smooth things over.

GD I fucking hate rude people.  I try to never involve myself in the business of others, but I damn well would have said something if I was there.  There's no reason for some high school girl to get bitched at for a GD side of food.  And going back to the tire place - you don't like the quote.  Go the f somewhere else.

Not so trivial... I've been stressed out at work, putting in the hours on things outside of my comfort zone, because hey, you want to get promoted to VP? You gotta do this and that.

So, stress > tense body (especially the jaw) > drinking to relieve stress > seizure.

Yeah, I had a mild seizure last night. I've shared my history of seizures on this board. There have been many types from grand mal to minor "blips" where I noticed a seizure but could carry on without missing a beat. The ones I've had in the past 1.5 years have been more than blips. The communication part of my brain gets mushy and I have hard time listening, understanding, reading and speaking. It takes anywhere between 15-30 minutes to recover.

On the bright side, I know it's more likely to happen if I fall asleep and my head drops towards my chest, so I don't do that anymore. On the flip side, my neurologist warns me that every little seizure could turn into a large seizure if I'm not careful. So fuck me.

#18766

Not huge, but trivial.

People saying "hone in" on something. It isn't "hone in", you moron, it's "hoMe in".

You can hone an edge - like a knife blade - or you can hone something smooth, like a cylinder wall.  I'll bet there's plenty of Surlys who've done both.

To "home in" is to get closer to a goal of some sort.

Get the fuck off my lawn, or I might just home in on your ass with my boot.

The VP thing?  It’s not worth it. I’m on the other side of that now and none of my career achievements mean anything. I’ve got a box full of deal toys that no one cares about, particularly me. Your faith and your family, that’s what matters. The rest is dust in the wind.

Ummm….no. “Hone in” is absolutely a real and correct term in that context. They’re not sure of its origin, it MAY have derived from “home in,” but if it did, it was a long time ago. There’s also a hypothesis that “hone” was used based on the idea of sharpening focus.

Irregardless….

They're wrong. But no worries, use it all you want - it's trivial, just like grammar, rhetoric, and grammar.

It's my home airport, so my perspective is different.

Now that MCI has been replaced, I find PHX to be the worst - bad layout and shitty food options.

Does the shuttle to the rent car facility at Sky Harbor still have to get onto the highway? Haven’t flown into that shithole since the 2008 season Fiesta Bowl but used to have to go there a lot for work. Total dump….

#18775

PHX is the worst airport I have ever been through, but the sample size is pretty small so I’ve never felt the need put forth that opinion with any conviction.   Also I don’t mind LAX and haven’t had a bad experience there.  Larger sample size there.  It sucks that it usually takes forever to get to where we stay, but that ain’t LAX’s fault.

Youtube ads popping up in the middle of songs are irritating enough, but even worse is the fact that - for me - about 80% of the ads are for either Sweetwater or Discount Electronics, both of which are already getting a couple of grand a year worth of business from me.

I feel like writing the sales/marketing departments of both and telling them they need to tell youtube that they aren't going to pay for ads to existing customers.

I tell people who say it doesn’t look like the menu photo that “Well they spent several hours making it look like that. This took 10 minutes.” That usually ends the complaining.

I didn't expect it to really look close to this.  My complaint was more about there literally being only 2 slices of roast beef on the whole sandwich.  It basically ended up being a shredded lettuce and sliced tomato with mayo sandwich.

should have taken a photo.

Not sure if I got screwed by the restaurant execution or shrinkflation.  Won't order again.

This.

I'm as adamantly anti-chain as almost anyone.  But I would occasionally hit up the Jimmy John's on MLK before heading to campus for office hours.  It was quick and easy.  But my god, now it's like $12 for a regular sized sandwich that maybe has the equivalent of 2-3 slices of deli meat you'd get from a proper grocer.  It's mainly just filled with shit quality condiments and 'vegetables.'  For half the price, I can walk across the street to P. Terry's and get a full combo for half the price with better ingredients.  I think Jimmy John's saw the Subway model of feeding garbage to the borderline insane and thought, "Hold my Beer."

Outlook used to be great.  But they keep changing crap in it every 20 minutes.  Whoever put the search bar in the top bar deserves to be walked out of Microsoft barefoot by security across a bed of 1,000 legos.

I can't believe there's no way to replay a YT ad. I've had ads that were funny enough that I wanted to show them to someone, and not been able to repeat or find them again. Was a hilarious Cantonese ad for State Farm years ago that still sticks in my mind.

I've also had ads that actually got my attention and I wanted to click and investigate the product, but wasn't able to click through and the ad didn't have enough context for me to know wtf the company was. Total fail by the ad agency.

The New Braunfels Bucees isnt worth a fuck.

Ive come to expect certain things when I go to bucees and one of them is a clean empty stall in which I can set free the “bronc in the chute.”

Here, they only have about 10 stalls.  Not enough for I-35.  Not even close assholes.

I don’t want to go into a shit smelling stall where the seat is still hot and sweaty
