Clients.

Especially clients that decide they need something at 3:30 the day before a holiday while you're watching the world cup.

When someone hears my wife and I talking or one of us talking to our kids in Portuguese and they say “oh you speak Spanish?”

Or when it comes up that my wife is from Brazil and the other person says “oh, so she speaks Spanish?”

It's doubly odd to me because Portuguese doesn't really sound that much like Spanish.  It's proven time and time again that the two Romance languages that sound the most similar to the untrained ear are Italian and Spanish.  Portuguese probably has more in common with Catalan, but that's another story.  And then there's the whole other issue, of which you are certainly aware, that Brazilian/Colonial sounds quite different from Lisbon/Oporto...what an American may have heard on an European tour at some point.

I've got some family from all over the Iberian peninnsula and I've never understood why those two languages get meshed together.  They are really quite different.  Over the years, Italian and Spanish have begun to blend in my ear. Even Romanian tilts more towards Spanish than Portguese, IMO.  French is really the outlier for so many reasons.  Anyway, I can see your surliness.

It is odd to me as well. Obviously Galegos/Gallegos/Galician (and portunhol on the Brazilian frontier) complicated things because it really is a mix of both languages. However, Portuguese and Spanish sound rather distinct. Continental Portuguese is all fucked up sounding.

The biggest head scratcher is if this happens in front of someone from mexico or Central America and they start immediately speaking Spanish to us. I just assume they think we are speaking some weird Spanish dialect from a remote mountain region of Chile.

Yeah, I do see/hear that happening with folks from Central America.  Typically Mexico folks have the ear for the difference as do most South Americans (save for the crazy Patagonia folks).

People who use 'of' instead of 'have'

It's would have, could have, should have not would of, could of and should of. Good Lord.

Vic’s now a grammar nazi and watching soccer? I don’t know how to process this.

I only watch soccer every 4 years when World Cup comes around. Tried to follow the Premier League after last World Cup and couldn't get into it. And MLS is junk.

I agree with all of this.

Look fuckers if you buy the United economy you don't get to just sit by your friend if you want. Pay for the seat or go to where you are assigned.

Maybe she speaks Messican?

Well yeah, both of us speak it ok. Haha.

When someone derails the griddle thread to go on a rant about how "chicken fajitas" is a nonsensical term similar to saying something like "chicken brisket."

Fuck you, although "fajita" refers to a specific cut of beef prepared a specific way, adding the modifier "chicken" to it makes the intent very clear: preparing chicken in the same manner that fajitas would normally be prepared. It's not destroying anyone's culture.

A car pulled up next to us to watch fireworks last night.   Except they just sat in the car with the windows up and the engine running, whIle everyone else was sort of mini  tailgating /picnicking.

What's the point, might as well just watch videos on YouTube.

Fireworks are so pointless. They get old after about 30sec. And the people who film them, how many people are like "hey can I watch those fireworks videos you took". None. That's how many.

You are right about people filming them.  They'll never watch them.  Same people that think the Star Spangled Banner is a wonderful song.  It's not, it reminds you of days at the ballpark as a child, or watching your veteran father swell with pride and salute the flag, it's a memory trigger that brings along smiles and pride.  But the song itself blows.  I can prove it---not one person on this board has that song on their phones.  If it's such a great song, why don't you listen to it more often?

I do love fireworks though.  But not doing them myself.  Complete waste of money, but this morning the munchkin helped me hang our American flag outside the house properly.  Then I showed her my father's folded flag from the U.S. Navy.  Then we went to a small town parade and she waved little handheld flags.  And later, we're gonna watch professional fireworks show.

Trivial thing that makes me surly.  Our country is not called "America." God Blesses America, and I thank him for it.  But it ain't on any fucking map I've ever seen.  And I used to make maps.

Hate when I’m walking through H-E-B or Home Depot and someone is trying to sell me some new windows or get me to change electric companies or some other shit. Fuck y’all, I want to be able to grab my beer or fertilizer or whatever without being bothered by your solicitation.

In store solicitation is bullshit. I've experienced this at Lowe's, Home Depot and Best Buy. If someone comes up to you and asks if you are a homeowner, just say no.

Or calling/emailing after noon on a Friday in the middle of summer.

shredded lettuce served with/under guacamole
That's what distinguishes guacamole salet from guacamole

I’ve listened to it every US game at the World Cup this year!

What if it's on the side with a burrito? I could see that. I'd rather have guacamole than pico de gallo.

This reminds me. There are plenty of foods that are appropriately served on a bed of lettuce. A crispy, lightly breaded pan-fried fish filet is not one of them.

I hate that shit. Mexican restaurants that put shredded lettuce and tomatoes on the side. I never touch it.

You sound like an ordeal to deal with on a regular basis.

Sorry for posting trivial shit on a trivial thread.  Maybe I shouldn't run for office after all.

no.  really the only appropriate application I can see for shredded lettuce is a crispy taco.  other than that, just keep the lettuce in one fucking piece (like on a sandwich or salad) or leave it off altogether

I've had good sex and good cheese bread. Both are equally satisfying.

Shit, drive your ass down to Fiesta and get a box of Yoki brand pão de queijo and do it yourself. Or change your name.

You know I am not going to post pics of my wife. But I post plenty of other pics of crazy chicks before the migration.

People on Craiglist that don't even know what they are selling. What is a 1986 Honda Magnum?

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

Still clients.  Same client, same shit, different day.  Is it too early to start drinking?
